Collins?

I kinda’ love it. Wdyt?

Hmm, I kinda love it too. It feels very different from [name]Collin[/name] to me, less laid back, fancier. I would particularly like it if it’s a family surname.

ETA: Wait, for a girl? I really can’t see it on a girl, it feels very masculine to me.

:frowning: Yes for a girl. They used it in ‘The Blind Side’.

Hmm, well if you’ve seen it in use and like it, then go for it! I just can’t imagine it, but that’s probably because I’ve never met one!

It’s my father’s middle name, so I may be biased, but I quite like it.

Okay… I think this is so cute! My good friend’s 2-year-old daughter is named [name]Anne[/name] [name]Collins[/name] (she goes by both names) and she is precious! My neighbor is due next month and will also be using this name for a mn, in part because it was her maiden name. If it is a girl the baby’s name will be either [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Collins[/name] or [name]Hadley[/name] [name]Collins[/name], and if it is a boy he will be [name]Phillip[/name] [name]Collins[/name].

I would love to see a little girl given [name]Collins[/name] as a first name! I think it would work very nicely as a first name, especially when paired with a distinctly girly middle name! I say go for it!

Sorry. I think of Mr. [name]Collins[/name] of Pride and Prejudice fame, one of the most vividly repulsive characters in literature. I hope I don’t sound as though I’m trashing a loved one. That is just my immediate association. And I’m sure if I met a darling [name]Collins[/name] (I take we are talking about a little girl), I would think it very cute and new.

You might want to consider , however, that others might have my initial response. Other family names to consider?

I’m just liking it more and more. I think it’s different and edgy and she’d def. be the only girl named [name]Collins[/name] here. I was also thinking of using the nn [name]Collie[/name] every now and then and if I ended up choosing the name [name]Collins[/name] she’d be [name]Collins[/name] [name]Alexa[/name] [name]Grace[/name].

I automatically think of [name]Collins[/name] from rent. It was his last name, but they don’t use his first. It’s not a bad association, but that and the popular (for boys) [name]Colin[/name]/[name]Collin[/name] make it a very, very masculine name to me. I can’t imagine it on a girl. It could work as a middle- I like [name]Alexa[/name] [name]Grace[/name] [name]Collins[/name].

I think [name]Collins[/name] for a girl could be cute but she’d need a very feminine middle name. Also, some last names will definitely not work w/ [name]Collins[/name] as a first name!!!

OK, so I know I answered this thread on the “Name Talk” forum and you are going to think I am harping on you, but I REALLY think that choosing a random surname that you got from a movie is going to give the opposite impression that you desire. This is very obviously a surname (as opposed to, say, [name]McKenzie[/name], which you could argue has made the jump to first name-though I still don’t like it!!), and giving masculine surname to a girl implies a family history. I think you will get asked this question CONSTANTLY, and will be made to feel on the defensive about it. In truth, I feel like you are stealing a family name from the real people on The Blind Side. I’m not trying to attack you, I just want you to know that there ARE people like me who will dislike the name for this reason. Now, if [name]Collins[/name] is in your family and I have missed that part, then I think you are so lucky to have a great family name to use and I say go for it!

No it’s not a family name and I don’t think that’s important. I like the way [name]Collins[/name] sounds and I’m only considering it at this point. There’re lots of people who have a surname as a fn that is not a family name. I don’t think it’s “stealing” and I don’t think any mother who named their child [name]Jackson[/name], [name]Parker[/name], [name]Delaney[/name], [name]Jameson[/name] or [name]Tatum[/name] (with the name not having any family affiliation) though it was “stealing” either.
