I’m aware that threads like this probably exist, but I can’t find any. So, I’m creating a new one- harmless, right?
I don’t think I have Synesthesia, but I do tend to associate words and names with certain colors and shades. To my recollection, the first case of this occurring was back in kindergarten when I was being taught the names of all twelve months, and I came to associate certain colors with them; this applies to the weekdays as well. Some of my associations are baseless while others have explanations, so stay tuned to hear my reasoning if you want.
If you're curious, here's my perception of the twelve months.
January: Powder blue. I imagine this association is due to how I perceive January as a wintery month, but not as severely as December, so my brain compensated somewhere down the middle.
February: Flamingo pink. Everybody knows that February is the month of the day of love, Valentine’s Day, so I guess I just came to associate lovey-dovey pink with the month as a whole.
March: Shamrock green. Another month where a famous holiday is attached to it. Saint Patrick’s Day is an American holiday imported from Ireland to celebrate the arrival of Christianity to that nation, whose flag sports the colors orange, white and green. With March also being the month of spring blossoming, I suppose the nature-y feel of green was inevitable in my association.
April: Magenta. Another spring month, April doesn’t have any holiday to influence my judgement of it. Generally, I see April as being a soft, floral color, hence I see it as magenta.
May: Ballerina pink. The sister month of April, May seems a bit more joyous and bubbly than she, hence the lighter, brighter shade of pink.
June: The twin of July. She’s more of a warm, sunset-type purple to me, given how she’s the beginning of summer.
July: The twin of June. Like her sister, July is purple, but more leaning towards blue, such as Indigo. It reminds me of a late summer night and the stars are scattered across the sky, with red, white and blue fireworks going off in the background for July 4th.
August: Good ol’ Auggie. He’s the tail end of summer and the nigh beginning of fall, so he’s a rusty orange for me.
September: Now we’re officially in fall, whose signature colors are red, brown, orange, and yellow. For me, September is somewhere between orange and yellow, perhaps butterscotch yellow.
October: Pumpkin orange
.
November: Sienna brown, like that of a turkey on thanksgiving or the leaves of fall.
December: The beginning of winter, yet I don’t envision any shade of white; more like a deep shade of midnight blue on a cold, snowy December night.
Here's my perception of the days of the week too.
Sunday: Sunny yellow, duh.
Monday: I’ve always thought of “Monday money day”, if that makes sense.
So, a minty fresh green like that of a dollar bill?
Tuesday: this is like seafoam green to me.
Wednesday: pistachio.
Thursday: a blueish gray, almost like the sky on a cloudy day.
Friday: A blood orange, almost bright red.
Saturday: Pure pitch black. Perhaps to contrast Sunday?
