What are your reactions to the name [name_m]Colt[/name_m]?

When I asked my husband of we could use it a while back he said he loved it but no its a young male horse … And he stared at me… I argued my point briefly and he started taking about that 80s movie about the 3 kid ninjas one being named [name_m]Colt[/name_m]… And then the conversation trailed off . [name_m]Long[/name_m] story short I like it but not everyone thinks its appropriate to give your child an animal name… I’ve been pushing fox and he was all eh … But I think he’s ditching that too … Also hawk is cool and cat for a girl… But colts cool . Its got underused old west charm , its a gun too yes? Modern sound. [name_m]Holt[/name_m] could be a slight alternative or it could be a nn for [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] or [name_m]Nicolas[/name_m]
I know a guy named [name_m]Colt[/name_m]. Everytime I hear it, I think of guns. I think if you aren’t in a small town, agricultural sort of community, you should not name your kid [name_m]Colt[/name_m]. Stick with something more solid like [name_m]Colton[/name_m]. That being said, I love the name [name_m]Colt[/name_m]. We’ve considered it for our future son, but he would also grow up in a large rodeo family in a rodeo town, he would fit right in with all the other kids named [name_m]Colt[/name_m], [name_m]Cash[/name_m], [name_m]Ty[/name_m], [name_u]Easton[/name_u]…
I would think it was a nickname for [name_m]Colton[/name_m]. It also makes me think of the football team.

I’m from a rodeo family and my name is a result of that. I have a cousin named [name_m]Colter[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Colt[/name_m] is perfectly fine, but I suppose I am biased.
I think of a young male horse. I wasn’t aware there was a brand of firearms named [name_m]Colt[/name_m] - then again, there isn’t exactly a big gun culture where I live.
