I recently heard a little girl named [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and wondered why I hadn’t considered it before. It quickly went on my list and I am really loving it. It sounds like such a vivid, scintillating, viridian; it has this satisfying, bright green snap to it. It just feels fresh and clean and bright. Also, I love astrology and have always been very proud of my Virgo sun. This baby will be a Virgo sun as well and I love that [name_f]Vera[/name_f] starts with a V and has some similar sounds, which is a very subtle nod to that.
I’m having a difficult time pairing [name_f]Vera[/name_f] with any middles that I really like though. I’m kind of stuck on the name [name_f]Snowdrop[/name_f], but I’m unsure if it’s really useable, even in the middle spot. After Sweet Pea’s (totally not useable, even in the middle!) Snowdrops are my next favorite flower. And I love how sweet the name sounds while the flowers strength, blooming in winter, is such a great symbol to me. We use so many flower names and I sometimes find it odd how one is fine, and another is unusable and I think [name_f]Snowdrop[/name_f] falls a bit close to the line. I’m sure it would feel a bit odd in the first name spot but wonder if it could work in one of the middle spots?
Even if you think it is usable, does [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Snowdrop[/name_f] even sound good? Or does something as classy as [name_f]Vera[/name_f] need a less “guilty pleasure” middle?
A few names I like which may or may not work as middles?
I’m worried that as much as I love [name_f]Snowdrop[/name_f] it might be too out there, even in the middle spot, and even if it isn’t, it may just not have the class and elegance that [name_f]Vera[/name_f] needs in her middles.
I was trying names out on a friend and tentatively came up with [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. My maternal grandmother, who passed when I was eighteen, and was an amazing, inspiring woman to me growing up, was [name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]. I think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] has a lot of beauty and class but shares a lot of similar sounds with my grandmothers given name. Could this be used as an honor name? A subtle one perhaps, not as outright as using her given name itself, but still close enough to count? What about the flow? Does [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] sound good together?
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Snowdrop[/name_f] does sound nice, but I agree that it lacks a little in class. [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] seems like a winner to me! It’s a stunning combination and the connection to your grandmother is such a lovely bonus.
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_u]Marian[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are both beautiful combinations, too. However, I really love that [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] would honor my grandmother and connect this baby to my family. My grandmother was just this really amazing person.
She was a “cool” grandma and at the same time… such a grandma grandma, if that makes sense. As much as I love my mom-and I do, so much-she is not a very stable person and my sister and I would have been really lost without my grandmother. Because I played caretaker after my dad died when I was young, my grandmother was often my best source of advice, comfort, and when I was with her, my chance to let go of being a little adult and really enjoy my childhood. Consequentially, every memory of time spent with her and my grandpa in [name_u]California[/name_u] are drenched in sunlight and magic. She is like this reminder of all the best moments in my life.
Sometimes, when life is particularly difficult and or overwhelming, I suddenly miss her so much it kind of aches. I’ve really hoped for a while to find a way to honor her, but as much as I love her, I wasn’t in love with her name. I think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is such an elegant compromise. My other “nod” to her without directly using her name or a variant is the name [name_f]Joy[/name_f], since all of my memories of her are happy ones and my other favorite name choice at the moment is [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] but I think that is even a less obvious way to honor her than [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and I wonder if it is enough.
We must have been formulating replies at the same time and our posts crossed! [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] has a ver nice ring to it and I love [name_u]Marian[/name_u] so much but for me, I’m not quite sure if [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_u]Marian[/name_u] feel too different for me to use them together.
Thank you for the input on the name. It’s such a difficult choice but this one felt really good as soon as I said it. I was just really putting random combinations together from my list of likes, telling them to a friend to try and get some kind of idea sparked. I thought [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] was beautiful with [name_f]Vera[/name_f] but couldn’t figure out what second middle to use that balanced it out. I tried a couple but when I put [name_f]Jane[/name_f] with it I immediately saw the similarity to y grandmothers name and knew that would skyrocket it to the top of my list, as I really wanted a way to honor her.
It really sounds like [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is just right! It’s my favourite combo from all the suggestions (including mine) as well and the connection to your grandmother is so dear to your heart. It’s so filled with grace and elegance for many reasons. I think you found a winner there!
Thank you. I really do think it might be the one. I want to keep [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] on the table until I’m absolutely sure, but I love all of the personal connection and beauty in [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. It’s so hard to believe that I might have found “the one”, when I have literally been looking at names for years throughout my struggles with fertility. When I found out I might have the opportunity to adopt this baby, I had to really sit down and think about what names I would realistically want to bestow on a baby. Getting rid of “just for fun” ideas that you can throw around when there is no immediate little person in your future, and only considering names that you would actually use, really helps you narrow down your style. I can’t believe how quickly I came to this amazing name after getting serious.
I want to like [name_f]Snowdrop[/name_f] as a middle name but I find it to cutesy. I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Vera[/name_f] though!!! It’s one of my all time favorites that one tried constantly to get husband on board with!! I think you have lots of great ideas though, my favorites are [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Coral[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. Other ideas:
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Corinne[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] ([name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_u]Jo[/name_u] reminds me even more of virgo)
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
To honor your grandmother, I like [name_f]Vera[/name_f] Helaina [name_u]Jean[/name_u] or [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u].
But I love [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]! [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u]?
For a Virgo baby born the end of [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Summer[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u].
Virgo is the last sign of summer. (The first day of fall is when [name_f]Libra[/name_f] begins.)
[name_f]Aster[/name_f] is the flower for the month of [name_f]September[/name_f], so for a [name_f]September[/name_f] Virgo you could use [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Summer[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f] or [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f] [name_u]Jean[/name_u].
When I read [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Snowdrop[/name_f], I thought… a good name for the Elf on the Shelf.
But seriously, it’s a pretty name for a [name_f]SPRING[/name_f] baby. It seems out of place in [name_f]September[/name_f].
