[name]Do[/name] you think it’s strange to combine just say your and your husband’s mothers names to make a name?
Not strange, but not my favorite idea. It’s perfectly fine and nice if it actually ends up being a real name, like [name]Ann[/name] + [name]Isabel[/name] = [name]Annabel[/name], but I really dislike stuff like [name]Jacqueline[/name] + [name]Elena[/name] = Jacquelena. So if your mothers’ names end up making an already existing name I think it’s great, but if you’ve got to make up a name and think about how to spell it I’m not a fan.
[name]How[/name] do you feel about Danara
Combines [name]Dana[/name] and [name]Barbara[/name]
There is a similar Russian name Dinara so Danara could work. I think it’s pretty and certainly doesn’t look “too made up”. Creativity is good if it makes “sense” and isn’t complicated in spelling or look. Danara keeps it simple and unique and would be a great way to honor both grandmothers!
Out of curiosity how is Dinara pronounced ?
I like it.
Danara sounds beautiful [name]IMO[/name]! I’m saying it, "Dah-NAR-[name]Ah[/name], but I think Dah-NAIR-ah is pretty too. It sounds really familure, but I can’t put my finger on why.
Dinara is okay. [name]Renesmee[/name] et al are a big NO.
My aunt’s name is a combo of [name]Dara[/name] and [name]Martha[/name]. Her name is Daratha. I think they are unique and special, and way better than a top 100 name with an alternate spelling.
Danara is rather pretty actually. I think [name]Dan[/name]-ah-ra is the obvious pronounciation,is that what you want?
I agree with the pp who said Renesme style name combinations are not good at all though!
@feliciadarlene - I have heard Dinara pronounced like “din-NAH-ruh” as well as “dee-NAH-ruh”. There is a tennis player named Dinara Safina.
Sometimes I like combination names but other times I don’t. I especially like Ellarose. I wonder if anyone else has any other nice ones apart from the extremely popular Elliemae or [name]Annamarie[/name]
Some name combos may work out very nicely but i wouldn’t find it acceptable to just throw any two names together. i love double names so i think that is a much better option if they sound nice together or even like the [name]Jada[/name] and [name]Will[/name] [name]Smith[/name]'s children [name]Jaden[/name] and [name]Willow[/name]
I agree with chelseamae. I don’t like Elliemae but [name]Ellie[/name] [name]Mae[/name] is alright. I still think it sounds like a cowgirl. I really like [name]Willa[/name] [name]June[/name] from the book Getting Near to [name]Baby[/name].
I like [name]Annalie[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t know how usable it is though. I know a [name]Katie[/name] [name]Rose[/name], and an [name]Angela[/name] [name]Joy[/name] (I like that combo).
So, in general, I much prefer double names.
I think it depends on the combination. [name]Both[/name] mine and my sisters middle names are combos. Mine is [name]Joanita[/name], both my grandmothers names, [name]Joan[/name] + [name]Nita[/name]. My sisters is a combo of my grandfathers, [name]Jack[/name] + [name]Colin[/name] - [name]Jacqueline[/name].
I always hated my mn, as it isn’t really a proper name. But I always like [name]Jacqueline[/name], and it fits well with her first name- [name]Rebecca[/name].
I know someone at work who has a daughter called [name]Lucy[/name] Mirinor, the middle name a mash up between [name]Miriam[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name] to honour grandmothers from both sides. It has a nice sentiment although I’m not that fond of Mirinor, but sometimes it works.
By the way I find Danara really pretty.
I like [name]Annabel[/name], [name]Rosemarie[/name], [name]Rosemary[/name] sort of mashes. But those barely could as mashes, though I know of instances of them being after an [name]Anne[/name] and a [name]Belle[/name] or whatever.
I am using [name]Raina[/name] after a [name]Renee[/name] and a [name]Ruth[/name], but [name]Raina[/name] is a “real” name itself. I don’t generally like entirely invented names.
