Confirmation Names

Hey there! I am planning to become Catholic in the spring, and I’ve heard that you can choose a saint’s name when you are confirmed. Right now, there are three saints I really love: [name]Bernadette[/name] Soubirous, [name]Gemma[/name] Galgani, and [name]Therese[/name] of Lisieux. I am trying to find a saint I can relate to or feel a connection with her story, but I’d also like a name that sounds good with my legal name, as I’m planning to use it as a second middle name. My name is [name]Rebecca[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. I would love any suggestions and recommendations! Thank you!!

I chose St [name]Rose[/name] of Lima for my confirmation!

St [name]Edith[/name] [name]Stein[/name] - she is the patron saint of loss of parents and converts.

St. [name]Abigail[/name]
St. [name]Maria[/name]
St. [name]Adeline[/name]
St. [name]Claudia[/name]
St. [name]Merryn[/name]
St. [name]Clare[/name]

I [name]LOVE[/name] the story of St. [name]Gemma[/name] Galgani! Some other favorites:

St. [name]Eulalia[/name]
St. [name]Veronica[/name]
St. [name]Agnes[/name]
St. [name]Cecilia[/name]
St. [name]Genevieve[/name]

I chose St. [name]Frances[/name] [name]Xavier[/name] Cabrini.

I selected [name]Saint[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] for my confirmation saint. I was between her and [name]Saint[/name] [name]Seraphina[/name]. I also recommend [name]Saint[/name] [name]Germaine[/name]/Germaina. She has a very inspirational story!

I have chosen not be confirmed, but my sister was when she was fifteen. She chose [name]Saint[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] of [name]Sienna[/name].
If I were to be confirmed, my choice would most likely be [name]Saint[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name] of Hungary (she’s the patron saint of hospitals, nurses, homeless people, and dying children to name a few), [name]Saint[/name] [name]Agnes[/name] of [name]Rome[/name] (the patron saint of [name]Chasity[/name], girls, and rape victims) or [name]Saint[/name] [name]Edith[/name] [name]Stein[/name] (patron saint of Europe, loss of parents, and converted Jews.)

I chose [name]Kateri[/name] myself :). I think Therese would sound lovely with as a second mn for your name. I agree with @taytothestars that [name]Saint[/name] [name]Germaine[/name] has an AMAZING story! Some other great saints that havent been mentioned would be [name]Saint[/name] [name]Philomena[/name], [name]Saint[/name] [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Saint[/name] [name]Agatha[/name], and [name]Saint[/name] [name]Brigid[/name]/[name]Bridget[/name]. You could also pick a patron saint of something that you are passionate about. If you would like to PM more about yourself I would be happy to help you find some patron saints

I chose St. [name]Hilaria[/name] for mine. I didn’t make it part of my name. I didn’t want a saint that everyone else had. Almost all girls wanted to be: [name]Mary[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name]. So I went to Saints & Angels - Saints & Angels - Catholic Online and looked at a list and St. [name]Hilaria[/name]'s story stood out to me. My ideal would have been to use one with the same name as me, but there was only a Blessed [name]Diana[/name] and that doesn’t count unfortunately…

So I guess in your case, I’d go through this list: Saints & Angels - Saints & Angels - Catholic Online
Pick out names you like that flow with your name, then research each ones story and find the one you connect with the most.

I’m so glad to see that the name [name]Kateri[/name] has made it on to Nameberry. St. [name]Kateri[/name] resonates with me being an upstate ny’er with a Catholic/ Iroquois family heritage. My husband isn’t keen on the name. But I love it.

Didn’t quite get this far in Catholicism, but for the name part of it I think [name]Bernadette[/name] goes really well with your name, even if it is a tad over-the-top. [name]Therese[/name] is a much more modest choice (name style wise) and flows just as well; ‘[name]Gemma[/name]’ is too close to the ‘[name]Becca[/name]’ in your first name for it to work for me though.

Unfortunately, I’m not well-versed in saints; I was not a very attentive Catholic. [name]Hope[/name] I helped out anyway.

Why don’t you look at this Catholic saints site? It’s a pretty good resource to help with names and more importantly gives a brief biography of them.

Mine is [name]Charity[/name].

I’m not a practicing Catholic anymore though, I now attend a non-denominational church, so I have no cause to use it these days.

[name]Welcome[/name] to Catholicism! It is very hard picking a confirmation [name]Saint[/name]. I picked St. Thérèse for myself, and my mother picked St. [name]Bernadette[/name], so of course I love them both. And St. [name]Gemma[/name] was great too : ) Someone else already mentioned St. [name]Eulalia[/name] (I just discovered her). I would like to add, by the way, that you can pick both male and female Saints, it’s not restricted to your specific gender. My sister picked St. [name]Sebastian[/name].
