I realize that [name]Connor[/name] was most popular in the 90’s. Can you give me your opinion as to whether you think of [name]Connor[/name] as a dated name or whether it stands the test of time? I thought I had moved away from this name, but it’s always lurking in the background.
I think [name]Connor[/name] is a timeless name. I don’t feel like it is a 90’s name and I think it is cute for a little boy yet ages really well with him as he gets older.
Hmm. I’m not sure how I feel about it. I only knew one [name]Connor[/name] in the 90s, and then I came on the naming boards in the mid-2000s, and I thought [name]Connor[/name] was getting a huge surge. I don’t think it’s dead or dated by any means. That being said, I have to say I’m not terribly fond of it. The [name]Connor[/name] I knew was just horrid, and I’ve heard a lot of people say the same thing about the Connors they know/knew. It is a nice Irish name, though, if I put my associations aside.
I personally think that [name]Connor[/name] is dated, but it is still a nice name. It was very trendy in the 90’s but a lot of Irish names seem to go through that trendy phase. I wouldn’t not use it because some may think it is dated. It is a familiar name that has good history, and every [name]Connor[/name] I have met was nice.
Thanks everyone! I appreciate all the input. It’s interesting, this is the one name that several people have told me they have had bad associations with. Except for the above post
I think I would love [name]Connor[/name] much more if it hadn’t boomed in the 1990’s. I know enough young Connors to make the name faintly boring, which is my biggest beef with many popular names–it’s not that they’re bad, it’s that I hear them so often they become boring.
But I do like [name]Connor[/name], and I think it will stand the test of time. It’s a simplification of an ancient name, and it’s been in use for many years. ([name]Connor[/name] and [name]Conor[/name] are my favorite spellings, too. I like them much more than [name]Conner[/name].)
Best wishes!
[name]Connor[/name] is one of my favorites as well. I don’t think it was used enough to be dated. It fits in great with the other trendy but not overused Irish names that I love. I think it’s a great choice!
I love [name]Connor[/name]. I don’t personally know any so I don’t have an associations with it one way or the other. I’d love to use it but it’s on the [name]Love[/name] but Can’t use list.
I think are many in our area and maybe that’s why I feel like its dated. I do feel like its a classic Irish name but has been given to so many that it feels like it was a trend in the states.
I know a newborn [name]Conner[/name] & a 30-something [name]Conner[/name]. So it is a bit tied to the mid/late 90s, but I don’t think it’s only stuck in that era.
I like that it sounds like honor & it feels like a strong name to me.
[name]Conrad[/name] is way more timeless though. [name]Conway[/name] is a bit unusable by me because it’s a store, but it’s another option. Or maybe [name]Cormac[/name].
Taz - I’m not keen on [name]COnrad[/name] or [name]Conway[/name], but I actually really like [name]Cormac[/name]. Partner doesn’t though, but thanks for the suggestions. I definitely understand some people’s thoughts on it being somewhat ordinary.
and auroradawn: thanks for your comment, I think that basically summarizes what I struggle with regarding this name. My friends and family say “it’s a nice name” but it doesn’t evoke much more than that.
