Considering Esme

We will be ttc within the year and I’ve been amending my short list. Lately I’ve fallen in love with [name_f]Esme[/name_f] as a possibility. Here in the US it’s pretty rare but my understanding is that in Australia it’s considered old fashioned and it’s popular in the UK. What is your style impression of [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and what country do you live in? (Pronounced EZmay, I don’t want to change the spelling) [name_m]How[/name_m] does it go with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_u]Everett[/name_u] and [name_f]Silvia[/name_f]?

I’m in the US and get a very [name_m]French[/name_m] vibe. Although, it looks odd without the accent mark over the final E, imo. That’s not to say that all Americans would have an issue, I just happen to live in a part of the country where accent marks aren’t unusual.

I love the name [name_f]Esme[/name_f], and it’s one of my favorites. I also think of it as [name_m]French[/name_m] just like [name_f]Bijou[/name_f], [name_u]Rene[/name_u], [name_f]Francine[/name_f] etc. You definitely do not need the accent mark. If you live in the US it won’t be expected. The melting pot has so many crazy spellings in the 21st century that it won’t even be noticed. [name_f]IMO[/name_f], [name_f]Esme[/name_f] sounds perfect with the sib-set [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] and [name_m]Everette[/name_m]. Great job in finding such beautiful name that you love so much!

I have a soft spot for this name. [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is soft, feminine and magical. I pronounce it the [name_m]French[/name_m] way too but I don’t think an accent is needed. I don’t mind it with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] if he gets the nn [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and it’s fine with [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] (one name is [name_m]French[/name_m] and the other is Latin so they’re ok together). The only name I don’t like it with is [name_u]Everett[/name_u] and that’s because of the shared initial “E”.

[name_f]Esme[/name_f] to me is very vintage and chic and I just love. I would put it on my list but my mother is pregnant and when we went around suggesting names and I said Esmelrada and we all just fell in love with the name. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom is due in [name_u]June[/name_u] and will be calling her [name_f]Dulce[/name_f] [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] nn [name_f]Esme[/name_f] (I am sad that I suggested the name! Now I won’t be able to use it in the future!) . I would pronounce [name_f]Esme[/name_f] it like Ezmay. I have also seen a little girl named [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and spelt it like Esmè. But I live in a state where there are a lot of Frenchs. So it’s normal up here.

I worked with a Hispanic woman named [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] who went by [name_f]Esme[/name_f]… she was awesome so I have a fondness for the name
