I’ve had my top 25s for almost a week now so I guess it’s time to overthink some of the combos
I have [name_u]Everest[/name_u] [name_m]Bowman[/name_m] on the list and I definitely think that will stay but I’ve been contemplating [name_m]Bowman[/name_m] for a first as well. Hear me out.
First, I love its connection to archery. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom was a high-level archer in college so it would be a nod to her. I also love the symbolism of an archer though. They point to their target or goal and make adjustments in order to get themselves there, which is a sentiment I really enjoy.
Second, [name_m]Bowman[/name_m] would reference a location on my university’s campus. I won’t go into detail but it’s a spot that I love and that is important to the student body of the school.
And while [name_m]Bowman[/name_m] is an unconventional choice, it’s similar to [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] and [name_u]Bowie[/name_u], neither of which are unheard of. What do you think? Could it work? And if you know me and my style, do you think it would work for me?
Not sure if you are in the UK or the states but I’d be anxious that if he was named bowman he would get [name_u]Bo[/name_u] or [name_m]Bow[/name_m] for short… Kids invariably do it.
[name_u]Bo[/name_u] in the UK as in slang for bad body odour. And [name_m]Bow[/name_m], as in the things I associate on dolls heads.
It’s interesting that you like [name_u]Everest[/name_u] because [name_u]Everest[/name_u] reminds me of [name_m]Evander[/name_m] and the meaning behind [name_m]Evander[/name_m] is strong bow warrior/Good man.
I like [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] though out of [name_u]Bowie[/name_u]/Bowman/Bowen
Interesting! I’ve heard BO for body odor but it’s B-O, like just the letters. I’m in the states.
I like [name_m]Evander[/name_m] as well. [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] too, but neither of those get the bonus honor points for my school, just the ones for my mom. Thank you!
I really love [name_m]Bowman[/name_m]. I slightly prefer [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] myself, but I for sure like [name_m]Bowman[/name_m] more for you. All of that meaning behind it is wonderful!
Also, [name_u]Bo[/name_u] (and [name_u]Beau[/name_u]) is a very common name/nickname in the US, so it doesn’t feel that out there at all. I love nn [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] too, which I think is very quirky and fun! Some combos that came to mind were [name_m]Bowman[/name_m] [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Bowman[/name_m] [name_u]Declan[/name_u], and [name_m]Bowman[/name_m] [name_m]Wesley[/name_m]. Not sure you were looking for suggestions, but still wanted to tell you them anyway!
I definitely think it could work as a first name. Especially with the surname trend going on right now, I think this one would fit right in. Plus the nicknames [name_u]Bo[/name_u] and [name_u]Bowie[/name_u] are really cute.
My only concern is that it will be misheard as [name_m]Bowen[/name_m]… other than that I think it sounds pretty cool, though maybe a little on the nose for its meaning (I often feel this way about word names though). It certainly fits the trend of surname-turned-firstname (my partner’s cousins from Nottingham have this surname).
@LynnG I like [name_u]Archer[/name_u] a lot too but again, it only gets the one honor point for my mom because there’s no connection to my university. [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] is cute but not for me.
Thanks everyone! I’m happy that most people think it’s usable!
