Cool boy names you've heard lately!

What are some boys names you have heard that makes you think “Wow, that’s a cool name!”

[name_m]Just[/name_m] want to see what’s out there

In my Intro to Theater class this semester, I have a classmate named Brittain, which I think is pretty cool.

I’m not sure I’ve heard any super cool ones lately–not just out and about. But I’m currently revamping my own list and I’m pretty psyched about [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], and [name_m]Judah[/name_m] for a boy.

A few other cool finds in the past couple of months since I’ve been looking:

[name_m]Absalom[/name_m]
Agostinho (ha, most people probably won’t think so, but I love this! It’s the Portuguese form of [name_u]August[/name_u]/[name_m]Agustin[/name_m]/[name_m]Augustine[/name_m]. It’s said like ah-goost-cheen-yoh, pretty much. Pretty complicated, but so much fun to say!)
Skandar/[name_u]Sasha[/name_u]/[name_m]Alexei[/name_m]/Aleixo (international variants of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] I’m loving lately. The last is a Portuguese diminutive pronounced like ah-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-shoo.)
[name_m]Amias[/name_m]
[name_m]Amaury[/name_m]
[name_m]Apollos[/name_m]
[name_u]Ashby[/name_u]
Aslan
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m]
[name_u]Auburn[/name_u]
[name_u]Auden[/name_u]
[name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]
[name_m]Bayard[/name_m]
[name_m]Benedetto[/name_m]
[name_m]Benoit[/name_m]
[name_m]Bjorn[/name_m]
[name_m]Booker[/name_m]
Brave
[name_m]Bram[/name_m]
[name_m]Casper[/name_m] (not a new find, but my goodness am I in love! [name_m]Casper[/name_m] has got to be one of the five coolest names in the world, imo, haha)
[name_m]Cosmo[/name_m]/[name_m]Cosimo[/name_m]
[name_u]Cyrille[/name_u]/[name_m]Kirill[/name_m] (international forms of [name_m]Cyril[/name_m])
[name_m]Damian[/name_m]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m]
[name_m]Didier[/name_m]
[name_m]Diego[/name_m]
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
[name_m]Donovan[/name_m]
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u]

[name_u]Emory[/name_u]
[name_m]Ephraim[/name_m]
[name_m]Ewan[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m]/[name_m]Ezequiel[/name_m] (the second is the Spanish spelling. There’s something about it that I love!)
[name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m]
[name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m]
[name_u]Galen[/name_u]
Gratian
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_m]Hale[/name_m]
[name_m]Hamish[/name_m]
[name_u]Harbor[/name_u]
[name_m]Helmut[/name_m] ([name_m]German[/name_m] name that I think looks so clunky and cool, but probably wouldn’t use it since it sounds like “helmet” to me lol)
[name_m]Hiram[/name_m]
[name_m]Holden[/name_m]
[name_m]Iain[/name_m] (love this less expected spelling of [name_m]Ian[/name_m]!)
[name_m]Ianto[/name_m] (love this Welsh form of [name_m]John[/name_m]. It’s said YAHN-toe)
[name_m]Ignatius[/name_m]
[name_m]Ikaia[/name_m] (I seem to be crazy over Hawaiian forms of Biblical names, which [name_m]Ikaia[/name_m] is for [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m]…)
[name_m]Ilya[/name_m] (one of my favorite forms of [name_m]Elijah[/name_m]; it’s the Russian form!)
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u]
Iokua ([name_m]Joshua[/name_m] in Hawaiian)
Joao (obviously, I have a thing for Portuguese names! This is the Portuguese form of [name_m]John[/name_m]. It’s said sort of like zhwow. haha.)
[name_m]Johannes[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonas[/name_m]
[name_m]Jorgen[/name_m]
[name_m]Joshua[/name_m] (popular, but so, so sweet!)
[name_u]Karsten[/name_u]
Kekoa
[name_m]Koa[/name_m] (love this alternative to [name_u]Noah[/name_u] so, so much!)
[name_m]Kilian[/name_m]/[name_m]Killian[/name_m]/[name_m]Cillian[/name_m] (love that [name_m]Kilian[/name_m]–which is used in Germany–could honor both my Irish and [name_m]German[/name_m] ancestry!)
[name_m]Ciaran[/name_m]/[name_u]Kieran[/name_u]/[name_m]Kiran[/name_m]
[name_f]Kosta[/name_f]
Kuiper ([name_u]KYE[/name_u]-per. I love the tie to astronomy and the Kuiper Belt!)
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]
[name_m]Lev[/name_m]
[name_m]Caio[/name_m]/Kaio (Portuguese–maybe Spanish and Italian, too?–form of [name_m]Caius[/name_m], meaning “rejoice”)
Mariner/Marinus
[name_m]Maximilian[/name_m]
[name_m]Nemo[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_m]Perseus[/name_m]
[name_m]Peter[/name_m]
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_m]Samson[/name_m]
[name_u]Schuyler[/name_u]
[name_m]Seamus[/name_m]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_u]Seneca[/name_u]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]
[name_m]Stafford[/name_m] (I don’t know why I like this so much, but I do!)
[name_m]Theophilus[/name_m] (such a cool, clunky [name_u]Theo[/name_u] name! I love that it means “love of God”)
[name_m]Thor[/name_m]
[name_m]Thorin[/name_m]
[name_m]Tiago[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
Tollak
Torben
[name_m]Torsten[/name_m] (I found out, in the middle of name hunting, that I have a significant amount of Scandinavian blood in me, and fell in love with [name_m]Thor[/name_m]-inspired Scandinavian names for boys, haha, which [name_m]Thor/name_m, Tollak, Torben, and [name_m]Torsten[/name_m] all are.)
[name_m]Truett[/name_m]/Truitt
[name_u]Vale[/name_u]/[name_m]Valor[/name_m]
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m]
[name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]
[name_m]Ziven[/name_m] (means “lively; zealous”, which I love)

I also have fairly new coworkers named Radames (which I recently discovered is an Egyptian god name?) and [name_m]Julius[/name_m], which I think are both pretty cool, now that I think of it. (Although I like [name_m]Julian[/name_m] more, but I think the nn [name_u]Jules[/name_u] is pretty stunkin cool regardless. He goes by just [name_m]Julius[/name_m], though.)

Good luck!

The Olympics brought [name_u]Rio[/name_u] to my attention. Feels very on trend being a similar feel as [name_m]Koa[/name_m] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. Hasn’t cracked the top 1000 on the SSA list yet but surely will next year!

Recently I spotted the name Arcangelo in a newspaper and thought it was really cool. I believe it means “archangel” in Italian.

A gorgeous little boy called [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] came into work today and reminded me how cool that name is!

A friend of a friend named her son [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] a few weeks back.

A few that I can remember from my nephew’s pre school…

[name_m]Colton[/name_m]
[name_m]Xander[/name_m]
[name_u]Braydon[/name_u]
[name_u]Aiden[/name_u]
[name_m]Declan[/name_m]
[name_u]Jesse[/name_u]
[name_m]Briggs[/name_m]
[name_u]Theo[/name_u]
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u]

I know a little [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] [name_m]Yosemite[/name_m]!

I know a baby [name_m]Barney[/name_m]. Brother for [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], [name_m]Archie[/name_m] and [name_u]Rex[/name_u]!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] that you like [name_m]Stafford[/name_m]. Our oldest is [name_m]Stafford[/name_m] (it was my mother’s maiden name) and I can’t imagine him being called anything else!

The brother of a college friend is named [name_m]Ramsey[/name_m]. I just love the name for it’s look, sound, and being uncommon yet familiar.

Also, someone I know from high school named their son [name_m]Arlo[/name_m] a year or two ago.

Maybe you’re where I first heard it from? I don’t remember which [name_u]Berry[/name_u] it was, but they have a son named (I think?) [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] [name_m]Stafford[/name_m], but he goes by [name_m]Stafford[/name_m]. I love surnames, and found [name_m]Stafford[/name_m] so cool! It also has ties to one of my favorite nonprofits that I absolutely believe in, so I love that it reminds me of that, as well. I figured if he needed a nn, [name_m]Ford[/name_m] or [name_u]Rory[/name_u] could work pretty easily. I’ve been tossing around [name_m]Stafford[/name_m] [name_m]Ananias[/name_m], but I don’t know if I’d actually use it. I have so many new crushes I’m contemplating right now haha!

I’ve recently met a [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m] (spelling?) and Soto (goes by surname). My aunt was introduced to a nine year old [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m], and my sister met a toddler named [name_u]Dash[/name_u].

I’ve heard [name_m]Parks[/name_m] and [name_u]Lennon[/name_u] recently!

I heard [name_m]Liev[/name_m] recently and thought that was pretty cool.

[name_m]Slade[/name_m]: was one all my friends thought was cool. (I’m still on the fence with it).
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m]
[name_m]Archer[/name_m]
[name_m]Maximus[/name_m]

My list I’ve been compiling for a little while:
