I know most Berries are over the -ella/[name_f]Ella[/name_f] thing, but I’ve noticed lately that I’ve been crushing on quite a few of them ([name_f]Ariella[/name_f], Crisella)… I’ve heard one too many times that [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] is too close to areola for me to really want to go near it (plus, I can’t see me giving up [name_f]Arianne[/name_f]… but I suppose I could use it occasionally, thanks to my [name_u]Ari[/name_u] combo–[name_u]Ari[/name_u]anne [name_f]Elea[/name_f]nor). And I’m not sure whether Crisella is legit or not. I met an adorable [name_f]Filipina[/name_f] teenager this weekend whose name was Crisella, nn [name_f]Crissy[/name_f], and she has me totally loving it.
Any other cool, unusual -ella names, that give off a sense of sweetness and lush feminity? [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] are way too popular and overdone for what I’m thinking here, and I’m not too sure about [name_f]Noella[/name_f], which was the only other thing I thought of. Any other ideas?
ETA: Out of curiosity, if you heard [name_f]Ariella[/name_f], how many of you would make the connection to areola?
I love [name_f]Mirabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Mariella[/name_f].
And I totally would not make the connection to areola, just because that’s not a worfd that frequently passes through my mind, but during sex-ed in school she might get some crap.
I love [name_f]Ariella[/name_f], the areola connection does not come to mind at all. Not sure of my favorite -ella name. [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] might be my favorite. I like [name_f]Sybella[/name_f]. [name_f]Stella[/name_f] is nice. Aella is a more out there choice. Of course there is [name_f]Arabella[/name_f]. I’m starting to crush on [name_f]Annabella[/name_f] and especially Amabella. I hope that helped.
I like [name_f]Mirabella[/name_f] (my favorite -ella name), Amabella, [name_f]Luella[/name_f], [name_f]Della[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Sybella[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Annabella[/name_f].
I don’t usually think areola when I see/hear [name_f]Ariella[/name_f]. As ksilvia said, that might cause issues during sex ed in school, but probably not otherwise.
One of my friends has a little [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] and I’ve never made the connection with areola.
Some other -ella names:
[name_f]Antonella[/name_f]
[name_f]Estella[/name_f]
[name_f]Gisella[/name_f] (a variant of [name_f]Giselle[/name_f])
[name_f]Louella[/name_f]
[name_f]Rafaella[/name_f] or [name_f]Raphaela[/name_f] (gorgeous meaning, “God has healed”)
[name_f]Cinderella[/name_f] also came up on a super-search, but I’m thinking you probably won’t want to use that!
I’m so happy most of you don’t think of areola with [name_f]Ariella[/name_f]! I still don’t know if I could convince myself to use it–I don’t want to lose [name_f]Arianne[/name_f] at all!–but I am more open to not keeping it blacklisted.
And omgoodness, I don’t know how I missed [name_f]Luella[/name_f], [name_f]Sybella[/name_f], and [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f]! And even [name_f]Adella[/name_f]/[name_f]Adela[/name_f] (I like [name_f]Adella[/name_f] much more, even though it’s not the proper spelling. I came across [name_f]Adella[/name_f] first–and said [name_m]AH[/name_m] (as in apple) - dell-ah as opposed to ah-[name_u]DELL[/name_u]-ah–so that’s how I instinctively say it), which wasn’t mentioned, but [name_f]Della[/name_f] was. I like [name_f]Fiora[/name_f] more than [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f], but [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f] is pretty cool.
I have no idea what areola is–that connection is lost on me.
As for -ella names, I have a few, but what about -bel/[name_f]Bella[/name_f] names? I find those intriguing, and there’s a lot of them that people are unaware of.

@sadiejosephine - “areola” usually refers to the darker colored skin on the human breast. You can see why I’d be concerned about the tie. I’m not opposed to [name_f]Bella[/name_f] names, but I’m more thinking about just [name_f]Ella[/name_f] ones. I’m pretty familiar with most [name_f]Bella[/name_f] names, and I’m not sure I want to go there, since [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] is already my favorite girls’ name. I do love [name_f]Bella[/name_f] and [name_f]Bella[/name_f] names, though! I like [name_f]Adabella[/name_f] (also Adorabella), [name_f]Aristella[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabella[/name_f] (Elisabella?), [name_f]Luella[/name_f], etc. on your list.
@maggiefromcanada - I had totally forgotten about [name_f]Antonella[/name_f], too! With [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], and [name_f]Nell[/name_f], it certainly is darling. I met the cutest little baby girl (omgoodness!) a week or two ago whose name was [name_f]Antonella[/name_f]–she was such a baby doll! It still seems a bit too tied [name_m]Anthony[/name_m]/[name_m]Antony[/name_m] for me, though. The feminizations I usually like ([name_f]Georgiana[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], etc.) seem to stand on their own feet–are both strong and sweet and definitely all girl. I have to remind myself that they originated as forms of [name_m]George[/name_m], [name_m]Charles[/name_m], and [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]. But I still see [name_m]Anthony[/name_m]/[name_m]Antony[/name_m] a bit when I see [name_f]Antonella[/name_f] (princessy and darling though it is!), so I’m not sure I’d go for it. Besides, I’ve never been a huge [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] fan to begin with, so I think that’s where my real hesitation lies. I really WANT to like it, though.
I like [name_f]Ariella[/name_f]. I didn’t connect it to areola until you mentioned it, but now I can see it.
As for ella names, there are two unusual names that I’ve heard only once and I like both. I met a little girl named Adrielle years ago. Sounds like a combination of [name_f]Adrienne[/name_f] and [name_u]Ariel[/name_u]. Her parents called her [name_f]Elle[/name_f], but you could make it [name_f]Ella[/name_f] too. I also met a little girl named Norella and I thought that was unusual and pretty. She went by [name_f]Nora[/name_f] or [name_u]Nori[/name_u] though. A friend of mine also had a friend named Zelle that she called [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. I never met her so I don’t know if she ever went by [name_f]Ella[/name_f], but you could.
I also like [name_f]Nella[/name_f] and [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] (you could call her [name_f]Ella[/name_f]).
I adore [name_f]Marcella[/name_f]. It was mentioned in passing, but it deserves more attention. It’s a feminine member of the [name_m]Mark[/name_m] family and it’s super old-fashioned and sweet (as I see it). It has the nicknames [name_f]Cella[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], and [name_f]Marcie[/name_f]. I really like this one.
I also really like [name_f]Della[/name_f].
Other -[name_f]Ella[/name_f] names I think are interesting:
[name_f]Carmella[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordella[/name_f]
[name_f]Daniella[/name_f]
[name_f]Fenella[/name_f]/[name_f]Finella[/name_f] (These two used to be top ten for me. They are Scottish? British and according to Behind the name are related to [name_f]Fiona[/name_f].)
[name_f]Janella[/name_f] (Like [name_f]Janelle[/name_f] with an a ending)
[name_f]Joella[/name_f] (The nicknames [name_u]Jo[/name_u] and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] and the -[name_f]Ella[/name_f] suffix probably a combo name)
This being said I’m not crazy about [name_f]Novella[/name_f], or [name_f]Vitella[/name_f]. I have never heard [name_f]Vitella[/name_f] before and I know in Italian Vitello is veal.
Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!
My pastor has an adorable little boy named [name_m]Adriel[/name_m] (AY-dree-uhl), so I don’t think Adrielle is a viable option at this point. Besides, I like [name_f]Adella[/name_f] much more. I like Norella more than Adrielle, and Norella is very sweet, but I like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] much more, personally.
I didn’t make the connection to areola until you mentioned it (though now I can’t get it out of my head)! Other options:
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Gavriella[/name_f]
[name_f]Christabella[/name_f]
Jezebella
[name_f]Mabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Sabella[/name_f] (I love this as an alternative to [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]!)
[name_f]Mariella[/name_f]
[name_f]Antonella[/name_f]
Avariella
Carabella
[name_f]Estrella[/name_f]
[name_f]Fidella[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiorella[/name_f]
Miabella
[name_f]Petronella[/name_f]
I adore [name_f]Sabella[/name_f], [name_f]Antonella[/name_f] and [name_f]Petronella[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Petra[/name_f]…how sweet!)
I never thought of areola when I said [name_f]Ariella[/name_f]. They’re said so differently.
My favorite -ella names are (sorry for repeats):
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]
Astrella – star
Llewella – shining one, lion like
Quella – quell, light, deity
Quinella – fifth
[name_f]Rosella[/name_f] – rose
Trella – little star
[name_f]Zella[/name_f] – lacking nothing
Or with one l – [name_f]Ela[/name_f]
Kacela – great huntress
[name_f]Philomela[/name_f] – one who loves music
[name_f]Raphaela[/name_f] – God has healed
[name_f]Uriela[/name_f] – God is my illumination
[name_f]Vendela[/name_f]
I have always really liked [name_f]Raziela[/name_f]/[name_f]Raziella[/name_f] it means secret of God and is one of the Archangels. I also find [name_f]Daniella[/name_f] growing on me lately as it seems do gentle. Also love [name_f]Ariella[/name_f] my husband nixed it though because of Areola. I still love it though
