Cora Predictions in Popularity

Hello berries! The name [name]Cora[/name] has really grown on me for a girls name. I am a bit concerned it will keeping climbing and end up in the top 20 though. It went from #276 in 2010, #204 in 2011, to #155 in 2012. Those are pretty big jumps. I would be devastated if [name]Cora[/name] became the next [name]Sophia[/name]. I was heavily considering [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] for our last girl and am scared of picking another climber :-). Where do you think [name]Cora[/name] will end up? Predictions?

It is so hard to say. Honestly, I live in a trendy city and I have never, once heard it. I think it will stay above 100. I completely understand where you are coming from. We want to use a family name, [name]Hazel[/name] but I hear it ALL THE TIME in the city I live in and it is at 175 right now. It was in the 800’s a few years ago! UGH. I think [name]Cora[/name] is a beautiful name and that it will not be too popular.

I’ve only ever met one [name]Cora[/name]. I think it’s getting noticed but not too many will choose it as their final name. Wouldn’t worry about [name]Cora[/name]'s popularity, it’s a lovely name!

I actually have yet to meet a [name]Cora[/name], and like happymama1, I live in a fairly trendy city (in a fairly trendy neighbourhood).

But, I have noticed that when a name appears on a television show, it does tend to get a huge bump in popularity. So, looking at those numbers, and knowing how popular Once Upon a Time is, I’d be wary. I highly, highly doubt it will reach [name]Isabel[/name] or [name]Sophia[/name] proportions…

My experience has been unless a name is in the top 50, you don’t hear it overly often in real life. Top 20, though…seems to be every kid you meet.

IDK…I think it falls into the [name]Cora[/name], [name]Nora[/name], [name]Dora[/name] trend, so even if you don’t meet many other [name]Cora[/name], you’ll run into other girls who use it as a NN. I actually know a [name]Cora[/name] that was born the same year as my [name]Charlotte[/name].

I’ve never met a [name]Cora[/name] before. I don’t think it will get mega popular. It isn’t a liquid name like [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Sophia[/name], or [name]Lily[/name]. The hard “c” and “r” sounds will put people off.

It’s massively popular in canada…I don’t know why, I have always hated the name

I do not think [name]Cora[/name] will ever climb into the Top 20, but if you are seriously worried about popularity you could consider [name]Coralie[/name] or [name]Coraline[/name] or another variant.

I live in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and have never heard anyone named [name_f]Cora[/name_f] before so I guess it depends where in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] you live (I border the usa). I am considering [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] but NN [name_f]Corra[/name_f] to follow with my other kids NN’s having a double (I know many of the berries don’t like that but I don’t care…lol) Actually at this point [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] is my #1 option and nothing I have previously thought of seems good enough anymore. I just need to talk to hubby about it first!

I know 1 [name_f]Cora[/name_f] that is 4 years old. I, like you, was concerned about popularity when choosing the name for our second baby (due in the spring) . The name we loved ([name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]) is in the top 100 if you count the other spelling variations. I was also worried it would be the next [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. After I looked into it a bit I realized that while there is still a top 10 list of names, more people are choosing to name their children more uncommon names. Although I don’t remember the exact numbers, I looked up the top girls names in the 80’s and saw that there were roughly 3x as many girls given those names as there are girls given the top name now. So while back in the day there were always a ton of Ashleys, Amandas etc in every class that might not be the case now and if it is it might not be as dramatic. Sure, [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is the top name but there aren’t nearly as many [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]'s being born now as there were Jessicas, Ashleys, etc

I’ve never encountered a girl named [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and I’m near a pretty large trendy city. I absolutely love the name but it’s on the bottom of our short list because my husband says it doesn’t feel right.
