Hi! Due in a few months with a second girl. Older sister is named [name_f]Geneva[/name_f]. We are looking for a name with a similar vibe, and my top two for now are [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f].
Here are personal pros/cons -
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f] pro: similar nature theme, similar level of complexity, sounds mermaid-like, nickname potential [name_f]Cora[/name_f], saying “[name_f]Geneva[/name_f] and [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]” together sounds fresher/more modern to me
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f] con: not a name many people hear and may take some repeating to understand, some may pronounce “[name_f]Cora[/name_f]-lye” seeing it written (I personally have a name with spelling confusion and it’s not fun), DH not completely in love but it’s growing on him, we’re not [name_u]French[/name_u] so will it sound too [name_u]French[/name_u] especially with [name_f]Geneva[/name_f]? There’s teasing potential with rhyming with “orally”
Alice pro: similar vintage theme, versatile personality, can fit any age, still whimsical even though traditional, everyone has heard and knows how to pronounce
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] con: too simple next to [name_f]Geneva[/name_f]? Does “[name_f]Geneva[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f]” sound too dated/dusty/dowdy? There’s teasing potential with Wonderland (oh the pickup line potential for both names I can imagine)
Which one is better? Any other suggestions along these lines? A few more names I loved but DH has completely vetoed are [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f], and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u].
We’re avoiding city names because I don’t want a city theme. We are also trying to avoid starting with letters of B, F, H, and S.
I prefer [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]. It’s such a pretty name and it goes great with [name_f]Geneva[/name_f]! They have more in common and they sound gorgeous. I don’t think anyone will suspect the [name_u]French[/name_u] theme, unless they’re a name nerd Maybe you could use [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] as a combo?
Coralie and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] don’t give me the same vibe as [name_f]Geneva[/name_f]. I’m not partial to [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] or [name_f]Cora[/name_f] but I think [name_f]Cora[/name_f] fits better. I adore [name_f]Alice[/name_f] but, again, not sure that it fits? Maybe I’m overthinking it but [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] seems so grand and it needs a grand name to go with it.
I prefer [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] with [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] I doubt it would get mispronounced often, it’s familiar enough and the pronunciation is pretty straightforward. I don’t think you have to be [name_u]French[/name_u] to use it.
Honestly, I do prefer the name [name_f]Alice[/name_f] just a bit. However, [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] & [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] are super dreamy together. And [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] is more interesting. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is a lovely classic, but I kind of hear it a lot. I wouldn’t worry about [name_f]Cora[/name_f]-lye…I don’t think. [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] seems pretty straight forward to me.
Wow!! Seems like a majority prefer [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] with her sister’s name.
Honestly before I posted, I was favoring [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], but the first time I said it out loud to a family member, there was a blank stare and suggestions of alternative names lol. But [name_f]Alice[/name_f] was met with more positivity.
I really like some of the suggestions given too, and will have to think about them, especially these
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - but too popular?
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - but will there be a surge now with Bridgerton being so popular? (Plus I don’t want that character association)
[name_f]Calista[/name_f]
[name_f]Cressida[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] - too fancy?
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
Regarding middle names, I didn’t place our plans in my original post because I didn’t want it to sway anybody too much since most people never hear or think about a person’s middle name. We want her middle name to honor my MIL whose name was [name_f]Rosetta[/name_f].
We would do either:
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Violetta[/name_f]
or
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
Trying to avoid [name_f]Rose[/name_f] varieties with [name_f]Alice[/name_f] because of the association with [name_u]Twilight[/name_u]! A lot in my age group were obsessed with that when it was popular and I really don’t want that reference.
What do you think of my middle name options? [name_u]Or[/name_u] any names jumping out from the suggestions?
Thanks so much for all the helpful comments so far!
Wow [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] with [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] is perfection! And [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is also perfect. Honestly, [name_f]Alice[/name_f] really doesn’t seem like a contender.
Out of the others you were liking [name_f]Calista[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] would seem to pair best with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] pairs best with [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] but I’m not really feeling it with your middles.
My favourite is [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]. [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] is a beautiful has a romantic whimsical vibe that works perfectly with [name_f]Geneva[/name_f]. I think she’s a great name and would the name I would choose. I think if your worried about spelling/pronunciation issues with [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] maybe [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] could be an option? [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] is also beautiful as a similar vibe too [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] but could be me universally easier for people. I think [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] & [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] would be beautiful. Still [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] is gorgeous I wouldn’t worry to much about pronunciation and this is the name I’d choose.
