[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] - stuck up and pretentious or beautiful and sweet?
I’ve always thought that the name [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] (meaning heart or daughter of the sea) is beautiful. It makes me think of the strong and selfless supreme witch [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] Goode from American horror story, but I understand alot of people dislike the nane or think it sounds stuck up and pretentious… what do you think?
Honestly, [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] has never appealed to me personally. But, I definitely don’t find it pretentious at all! I think it fits with longer classic/vintage names that are popular in much of the English-speaking world like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_u]Florence[/name_u] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].
I think it’s beautiful and not stuck up. While the names makes me think of elegance and gold - it also paints a picture for me of a girl by the beach collecting shells with pigtails and a big smile
I like [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] very much! From the [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] reference to the much more personal fact that it’s my cousin’s middle name… I think that [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] feels in the resting, bright, and wearable. It’s such a cool name. I don’t find it pretentious, personally, at all. It’s too romantic, flowy, and literary to be so!
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] took a lot of time to warm up to me, but it did! I never thought it was pretentious. I like that it has many wonderful connotations, and that made me like the name in the first place. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] appears in Shakespeare’s play [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Lear[/name_m], after whom a moon of Uranus is also named. She is also mentioned in [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] Spenser’s works and the ocean connection is there through the meaning
I do not really like [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] because of the [name_m]Cord[/name_m] part but I like [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] a lot.
The meaning is good too
I think [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is elegant and spirited; she sounds like someone who knows their mind.
The only thing that I don’t love about it are nicknames [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Cordy[/name_f] and Cory; they’re just not my style; I do like [name_u]Kitty[/name_u] as a nickname but as you’d never know if it would stick, I primarily love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] as a middle name
cordelia is elegant and just a little posh but not at all stuck up and pretentious !! i think it’s so charming and lovely, and feels quite cosy and gentle. if it’s a consolation, it’s medium-common around me - i know three or four, and it’s always felt like a lovely but pretty normal name. i have absolutely no doubts of its usability !!
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is one of my all time favorite names (both the ee and eh pronnunciation!)
To me, it gives off a calming, nature-loving, poetic feeling. It’s unique enough that a [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] probably wouldn’t have to add a last initial in daily life, but known enough that it isn’t totally unfamiliar. There are also tons of nickname possibilities!
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is one of my favourites of all time. It’s classic, beautiful and soo pretty. It sounds like the kind daughter of a duke to me.
