Cordis for a boy? (other Latin ideas welcome!)

We used a word with a Latin meaning for DD and we’re now exploring that idea for our next child.

When I look into [name_f]Cordis[/name_f] it’s always mentioned as a girl’s name, but I want the [name_u]Berry[/name_u] opinion on whether or not this can be unisex!

Also other Latin names welcome as suggestion!

I don’t see why not. It’s a neutral-gendered common noun in Latin, and has never been common for girls. Some other Latin words that could be names (mostly from wikipedia, so not garunteed for accuracy:)
Vox- voice
[name_m]Geo[/name_m]- earth
[name_m]Oceanus[/name_m]- [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]
[name_m]Pan[/name_m] - All
[name_m]Penn[/name_m] - [name_f]Feather[/name_f]
[name_m]Calix[/name_m]- Chalice

Thanks for this! I love [name_m]Penn[/name_m] as a name!

I would assume it was a masculine name. I would guess it would be a longer/more formal sounding name for the nn [name_m]Cord[/name_m]/Corde.

I actually know a guy who goes by [name_m]Cord[/name_m]. I don’t know what his full name is.
I also know a woman named Cordill. So for me, it’s quite unisex.

I think I’d probably assume boy if I heard the name [name_f]Cordis[/name_f].
It’s very cool sounding.

Thanks ladies! I agree that it sounds unisex, no real reason it can’t be I suppose. [name_m]Cord[/name_m] is a nice NN!

At first glance, I thought it said Corgis…like the dogs. LOL! I was like, “They are cute, but please don’t name your child after a dog breed!”

I don’t see why [name_f]Cordis[/name_f] couldn’t be unisex. I’ve never encountered it before, so if you told me it was a masculine name I’d believe it!

[name_f]Cordis[/name_f] is beautiful, and seems unisex but leans toward the masculine for me. Another idea would be [name_u]Pax[/name_u] (which despite common opinion, is originally a girl’s name taken from the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] goddess of peace). However, you could definitely use it for your son as it’s quite unisex in modern times.

I vastly prefer it on a boy.
