Cormac

At this point it is pretty rare for me to find a name we haven’t considered yet, but I stumbled upon [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] and it caught my eye.
There is something about it that really draws me to it, but at the same time I wonder if I would trip up saying it countless times per day.
A few questions about [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]:

  1. I’ve seen several different pronunciations of it with people putting emphasis on different syllables. How would you personally pronounce [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]?

  2. What is your initial impression of the name? Any bad associations? (I saw someone in an old nameberry post mention it reminds them of corn and macaroni and now I kind of can’t undee that). I’m aware of the author but don’t recall reading any of his works. What kind of little boy/man do you picture for the name [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]?

  3. If you don’t totally hate the name, would love to hear if there are any middle names you think would sound great with it!

I pronounce it COR-mac/mic.

While it’s not my favorite [name_u]Irish[/name_u] name, it is a good strong one and [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] McCarthy was a genius and probably one of the most influential writers in [name_f]English[/name_f] of the century.

To me, [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] is a literary name; intelligent, funny, and with strong personal integrity.

I’d pair him with a classic:

[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]Francis[/name_u], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]Joseph[/name_u], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] or

[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]Gareth[/name_m], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] Seamas (double literary!), [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]Rory[/name_u]

[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] is lovely!

I pronounce [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] as COR mac

I think [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] is handsome, outdoorsy, cosy and warm. For me I associate [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] with walks along a pebbled beach, collecting seashells and cosy jumpers.

I have positive impression I really like him!

I would pair [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] with something cosy and classic like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] or [name_u]Edward[/name_u].

  1. I say [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] with slight emphasis on the first syllable. The second syllable is ‘mac’ like rain mac

  2. I really like this name. I knew a little boy named [name_m]Conrad[/name_m], and [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] sort of sits with this, [name_m]Conlan[/name_m], [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] & [name_u]Callum[/name_u] in this ‘cool, unexpected C boy name’ category of my mind. [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] was a pale skinned, freckle-nosed, curly black haired little cutie with blue eyes and very long dark lashes, with a sweet personality to match his adorable looks, so I picture [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] the same way!

  3. [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]Leander[/name_u], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]Joshua[/name_m], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]Henry[/name_u], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]Jensen[/name_u], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]David[/name_u], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]Daniel[/name_u], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]Auburn[/name_u], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u].

I like it! It’s not one of my favourite [name_u]Irish[/name_u] names but it’s easy to spell, to pronounce and it’s a sturdy name so I like it. No bad associations but I would assume they had [name_u]Irish[/name_u] parents or grandparents.

It is pronounced COR-mac, I think it is really important to pronounce the name correctly. I have seen Americans pronounce it cor-MICK but it isn’t the correct pronunciation.

i’d pronounce cormac as cor-mac, or cor-mick. my initial impression of the name is how much it reminds me of ireland and spices – specifically mccormick seasonings, if you’re familiar with the brand. i love a lot of irish names, but this isn’t neccessarily my favourite. it’s difficult to picture a child or a man with this name, as it strikes me as more of a dog name; unsure why. i’d pair it with something classic, such as…
cormac thomas
cormac seamus
cormac elias
cormac zacharias

Cor-mac - maybe with a tiny little more emphasis on the first syllable, but I say both quite strongly

Cormac is distinctive and cool in sound - I like the rugged, rocky vibe, but it’s also sweet somehow? I think that’s because it reminds me of the chocolate bar, Caramac (maybe a UK thing?). I don’t really see that as a bad thing? I love the nickname ‘Mac’ too!

Maybe…

Cormac Ozias
Cormac Julian
Cormac Alastair
Cormac Finley
Cormac Elias
Cormac Sullivan
Cormac Jude
Cormac Henry
Cormac Saul
Cormac Robin
Cormac Arthur
Cormac Leon
Cormac Sylvester
Cormac Alexander
Cormac Webster
Cormac Drew
Cormac Wesley
Cormac Wallace
Cormac Oscar

I associate it with [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] books, but he was a side character. I’m just a big fan. A handsome, intelligent name! I would put an emphasis on [name_m]Cor[/name_m], so COR-mac.

I’m thinking

[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]Tristan[/name_u]
