Cornelia - your thoughts?

What are your thoughts on the name [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]? Does the name age well? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know any Cornelias?
What would you think if you were introduced to a [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]?
Thanks so much!

I love the name, also I think the name age well. I’ve never met any [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f].

I am so confused about how I feel about both [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. On the one hand they feel so Edwardian-ly beautiful that I could fall in live in a second. But there’s something about the sound I struggle with. I think it ages well, I guess as a child, she could be [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Lia[/name_f] and go by her full name as a young woman (if she chooses.) I think its the Corn- part that I find difficult, now that I think about. But I want to love it. I would think if I met a [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], her parents took great care in naming her, they wanted something beyond the norm and still very elegant. I was actually thinking about [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] tonight! haha.

I think [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is lovely but I’ll never use it myself. All I see is Corn, but that’s my problem. I’d love to meet little [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f].

Yes, I think [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] ages very well.
I do not know any [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] personally. But there is one Babyberry [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] here and I also know one in her late 30s or 40s.

I would love to meet a little [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. But I think it would be hard to wear the full name every day. If [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] was a close relative (like a little niece) I might even ask if I could call her [name_f]Nelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is nice because it breaks up the “corn” sound - speaking from the midwest where corn is a big crop here.

I love [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], but if I named a daughter that she would almost exclusively go by [name_f]Cora[/name_f], because like others have said I don’t think it would be flexible for everyday use necessarily. Like calling her into the house for dinner I can’t picture saying “[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], put your toys away and come inside!” .But I do think it would age well, despite this. It’s one of what I call secret identity names, that have lovely short forms backed by elaborate full names.

Corn is all I see. I much prefer [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].

[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is lovely. I used to look at it and only see “corn,” but I got past that. It’s [name_m]COR[/name_m]-neel-ee-uh, not CORN-eel-ee-uh. (The difference may be indistinguishable for some people, but I hear the difference quite clearly.) I would love to see this name used more often. To me [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is cascading shades of vivid blue and the delicate patterns on fine china and soothing orchestra music. I can envision it on a lady of any age.

Some bratty little boy in middle school will start calling her [name_u]Corny[/name_u]. I prefer [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].

I love this name!!! I think [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is a classic, timeless and beautiful name with an elegant and intelligent feel to it. If you aren’t sure, here are a few similar names that you might prefer:
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Cara[/name_f]
[name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordette[/name_f]
Cordetta

These are the only ones I can think of that I’d ever use/consider using.

I adore [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], along with [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is just a elegant name, and I would love to see it on a little girl… I think it’s beautiful as both first and middle name, so I just adore it.

I love the name [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. I actually think the [name_u]Corny[/name_u] part is really sweet and funny. I think it’s gorgeous and elegant and ages really well.

For nicknames, they span all ages. [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Nell[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Nia[/name_f], [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_f]Ria[/name_f], [name_f]Rella[/name_f], [name_u]Cory[/name_u] (if she’s a tomboy), Corel…yea. It’s super versatile. If she were my daughter, I would call her [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] more than anything else. It’s long and elegant but no harder to wear in every day life than any other long names like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I call [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] by her whole name 99% of the time.

I don’t know any, but I have [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] on my boys list. He would be [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] 99% of the time as I don’t like any of the nicknames yet.

With Cordelia, I really dislike it and it’s connection with Shakespeare. She was so sad and tragic and I just don’t like the sound. Plus, people keep mentioning Corny, but I think Cordy is weird too. >.<

[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]'s lovely, the nicknames are endless and adorable, especially [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and [name_f]Lia[/name_f].

I know a [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], or I knew one when I went to school. She was two years older than me and very cool.

I like [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], but to me [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] sounds a little less stuffy. I think it would age fairly well. I do not know any Cornelias, but it would be awesome if I did

I find [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] prettier, but I still like [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], and think it ages well. I don’t know any personally. If I met a [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] I’d think “What a cool, elegant, unusual name!” especially if she wore it well…I admit I might feel a little sorry for her if she seemed like a retiring, conventional person whose name is the coolest, most elegant, most unusual thing about her. In that case though she would have options for a less standout nickname.

I agree with other, I think [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is elegant and lovely, but I only see Corn. [name_u]Corny[/name_u] would be the first nickname to jump out at me. I wouldn’t use it myself, because it’s not really my style, but I would think it would be sweet to see a little girl named [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. I also think it would age well, I can see it on a teenager, a 35-year-old, and a grandmother.

I know an older women by the name of [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] personally I do not like the name and think a child could easily get teased by it. Kids could call her Corn or [name_u]Corny[/name_u] for short which is why I prefer [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].
