Could Amaris be a boy's name?

I just discovered [name_f]Amaris[/name_f] and really like it but on nameberry its listed as a girl name. It sounds unisex to me. [name_u]Or[/name_u] is it feminine and I’m totally off base here? If so what are similar names for boys or what is the boy version without “making up” a name. For example, I think I would like Amarus even better but I am just making up a name at that point?! I guess [name_m]Amias[/name_m] is pretty close. For some reason I really like [name_f]Amaris[/name_f] much better :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Hmm, I can see it. It doesn’t sound overly-feminine and not common for females so I suppose it works.

Thanks! At least I’m not just losing it! But on second thought, maybe [name_m]Amias[/name_m] will just grow on me more as that’s much more established for boys. I guess they are pretty close in sound.

Amaris does sound unisex to me and I think it would work for a boy

I think it can work for boys. It’s not as feminine sounding as other names, so it could definitely be unisex.

It doesn’t work on a boy for me personally. It’s similarity to [name_u]Damaris[/name_u]/Amara/Maris makes it sound like a ‘girl’s name’.

I’ve always liked [name_m]Amias[/name_m] and the sound is actually pretty similar to [name_f]Amaris[/name_f], so I’d vote for that.

I also think that since [name_u]Amari[/name_u] is unisex [name_f]Amaris[/name_f] can be too

I think it could work for a boy. [name_m]Aramis[/name_m] would be similar option that is established as a boy’s name.

To me it sounds somewhat masculine (it reminds me of [name_u]Amar[/name_u], which is an Arabic boy’s name, and [name_m]Aramis[/name_m]). Plus it’s fairly uncommon for girls. So I can see it working for a boy.

I quite like the idea of [name_f]Amaris[/name_f] for a boy. [name_m]Aramis[/name_m] is a similar suggestion

Definitely unisex.

I think it could work although it does remind me if amorous

Yeah I am now confused what the proper pronunciation even is for [name_f]Amaris[/name_f]. So even though I’m really intrigued by it, it probably won’t make it onto my list because I know my husband wouldn’t like it if the pronunciation isn’t obvious.

I like Aaa-mar (like [name_m]Marshall[/name_m])- iss but unsure if that’s correct?

Amaris is cool because it would honor both my grandma and my dad but could be problematic with gender or pronunciation.

I think I will try to see where I land with [name_m]Amias[/name_m].

I prefer this. As long as you are in an area where [name_f]Amaris[/name_f] isn’t very used, I think it might be okay.

Yeah I feel the pronunciation is key. [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-marr-is vs [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-mare-is. The first sounds more boy since its very close to [name_u]Amari[/name_u]. The second one sounds more girl since it’s similar to [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. To me anyway.

I prefer [name_m]Aramis[/name_m]

I actually think it works really well! I wouldn’t guess any particular gender if I met an [name_f]Amaris[/name_f].

The only [name_f]Amaris[/name_f] I know is a girl so for me
It’s all feminine sorry!

She pronounces it [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-[name_f]Mare[/name_f] (like the horse)- es (the es as in establish)

Ok well [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-mare-es is nice and I feel unisex but probably better to go with [name_m]Amias[/name_m]. Oh well. Cool name though. I still think it sounds completely unisex but I’m probably not brave enough to try to crusade that cross-over journey!! But I’m glad to see so many agree that it can bend genders.
