Could Edina be the new ‘E’ name?

I can’t stop thinking about [name_f]Edina[/name_f]. I originally thought of it because of my love for [name_u]Eden[/name_u] (Eh-den) but living in the states am sure no one would pronounce it this way. So what do we think of [name_f]Edina[/name_f]? And is it a stretch to do full name [name_f]Edina[/name_f] with nn (Eden)?

I knew a girl in highschool named [name_f]Edina[/name_f] (pronounced eh-din-a). I’ve only ever heard [name_u]Eden[/name_u] pronounced ee-den, so I wouldn’t have made the connection. I really like the name [name_f]Edina[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Edina[/name_f] nn [name_u]Eden[/name_u] could work if one of the pronunciations were changed, like Ee-din-a —> Ee-den or Eh-din-a —> Eh-den.
I think you’re more likely to have success if you change the pronunciation for [name_f]Edina[/name_f] as opposed to [name_u]Eden[/name_u] since its so popular right now.

[name_f]Edina[/name_f] is pretty!! I like it

I read it as being pronounced (ee-dee-NUH) because this matches up with my pronunciation of [name_u]Eden[/name_u] (ee-dehn).

[name_f]Edina[/name_f] is pretty! I’d definitely pronounce it eh- not ee- (like [name_f]Edwina[/name_f] without the w) and would imagine the most intuitive nn would be [name_u]Eddie[/name_u] or [name_f]Dina[/name_f]

[name_f]Edina[/name_f] sounds like edema to me, but [name_u]Eden[/name_u] is nice.

I think of [name_u]Eddie[/name_u] from Absolutely Fabulous!

Although [name_f]Edina[/name_f] is its own name, it makes me think of [name_f]Adina[/name_f], which sounds really pretty and sweet

[name_f]Edina[/name_f] “Eden” works but it does make me wonder why not just use [name_u]Eden[/name_u]?

Agreed. I can’t get past this association

It does remind me of edema in this spelling unfortunately. I think the name had its best chance at becoming popular through the iteration [name_f]Idina[/name_f] (via Menzel), although it didn’t seem to take off.

Good point! I do prefer [name_u]Eden[/name_u], but find it unfortunate that the Israeli / Hebrew pronunciation of the name isn’t intuitive in the States. Though the (ee-den) pronunciation isn’t horrible to me, it just doesn’t have the same magic as the Eh-den pronunciation for me.

I’m unfamiliar but assume it’s not a good association?

It’s a city in my state with a reputation of its residents being stuck up, or “cake-eaters,” so I personally would stay away. (maybe that’s just a Minnesota thing, idk?)

*Pronounced ee-DIE-na

I think just [name_u]Eden[/name_u] on its own or [name_f]Idina[/name_f] might be better, personally

Well, she’s a character from a (quite old now) British sitcom - the show and the actresses who play the characters are well loved, so it’s not bad at all in that sense. But the characters are not exactly who you’d want your little girl to be like - they are comically superficial, catty, bitter, vain and abrasive washed-up drunks. Seems like the association might be very contained to the UK so it may not necessarily be a problem for you.

Have you ever considered [name_f]Edenia[/name_f]?

I really like Edina! It has all the sounds of a classic without it being overused. I think Edina nn Eden would work fine!

Yes! I’ve wondered why no one talks about [name_f]Edina[/name_f]. Same goes for [name_f]Eda[/name_f] and [name_f]Ina[/name_f]! I pronounce it like eh-dee-nah.

Unfortunately I also immediately think of edema.

[name_f]Edina[/name_f] charted in Hungary in 2003, and is pronounced EH-dee-naw in Hungarian. Also appears on Bosnian popularity lists - probably a variant of [name_f]Adina[/name_f] and pronounced eh-DEE-na. EH-den doesn’t seem intuitive as a nickname for either.

I actually truly like this! Like a lovely upscale version of [name_f]Edna[/name_f]
