I really like the name Lucian, it’s a family name and my partner expressed interest in it as well! I also love Luca, and I’ve always thought Luca would work as a nick name for Lucian. One of my requirements for a name is a good nick name, and I think this one is really cute! What do you think of Lucian? Do you like it as a full name for Luca?

[name_f]My[/name_f] great uncle pronounced it “Loo-shen” but his wife always called him “loo-see-an” so I go back and forth, I think I would say “Loo-she-en” because I’ve always sort of combined their pronunciations.

[name_u]Luca[/name_u] works wonderfully as a nicknames for [name_m]Lucian[/name_m]! And even if it didn’t, I know someone named [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] who goes by [name_u]Luca[/name_u], so there’s really no rules as to what can be a good nickname.

I rate [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] 8/10: It has bad associations for me personally, but I think its cute! I also love the Pixar association with [name_u]Luca[/name_u].

I think Luca could be a nickname for Lucian. But I also think that if you introduce “Lucian” people would be unlikely to naturally call him Luca so you would have to actively call him that or introduce him as that (not an issue just thought I would add it).
I actually really like Lucian Douglas. Though Lucian Marcus might make Luca a more clear nickname.

I think it could catch on if you used it enough/if your kid thinks of themselves as [name_u]Luca[/name_u] but it’s not super intuitive as both are full names of (potentially) equal length.

Would [name_u]Luca[/name_u] be pronounced like [name_u]Luka[/name_u] or like Lusha/Lusa? If it’s pronounced like [name_u]Luka[/name_u] it is not an obvious nickname for [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] but I think it could still work. If it’s pronounced like Lusha/Lusa the spelling could be confusing (if it’s a nickname that is used so often it will also be written down sometimes) but I don’t think it will be a big problem.
I personally prefer [name_u]Luca[/name_u] on it’s own but for you I also really like [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] because it’s a family name.
