[name]Marigold[/name] has been a long time favourite for me, I do love the name in it’s full form and nn’s [name]Goldie[/name] and [name]Maggie[/name] are really sweet, but I love [name]Margo[/name] more, do you think it is too far away from [name]Marigold[/name] to work as a nn or do you just not like it? Also, would [name]Margo[/name] work on it’s own or does it feel too insubstantial? I know it is traditionally a nn for [name]Margaret[/name], which I do like, just not as much as I love [name]Marigold[/name].
I totally agree, and [name]Margot[/name] is my middle name, and I have always loved it and feel that it is indeed a substantial, stand alone name with plenty of presence, femininity and glamour.
[name]Margo[/name] totally works for [name]Marigold[/name]! The letters are all there in the name and keep in mind many nicknames aren’t super close to the name they come from anyway ([name]James[/name] --> [name]Jimmy[/name], [name]William[/name]–> [name]Bill[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name] --> [name]Bess[/name], [name]Sarah[/name]–> [name]Sadie[/name]). [name]Hope[/name] that helps!
Oh, [name]Elena[/name], I love [name]Margo[/name] for [name]Marigold[/name]! I think it’s amazing! And for what it’s worth, yes, I do personally think that [name]Margo[/name] works on its own. It reminds me of names like [name]Eliza[/name] and [name]Nora[/name] in that while it’s a diminutive, I think it sounds substantial. I know a few Margos, and they’re all kind and elegant.
[name]Just[/name] for fun, some [name]Margo[/name] middles you may like:
Yay! Thanks everyone for your replies, I feel very good about [name]Marigold[/name] nn [name]Margo[/name] now
[name]Jill[/name]- I love all of your middle name suggestions so, so much. I would love to be able to pick a favourite but I just can’t because they are all so beautiful! Thank you!
It’s no stretch to get [name]Margo[/name] from [name]Marigold[/name]…
but I’d prefer it on its own. I don’t like making one name into a nickname for an unrelated name, something that seems really common on these boards.
I actually like both [name]Margo/name and [name]Marigold[/name], so it’s not just theoretical when I say:
Though unrelated, they’re far too close in sound to be siblings. So the only way I could use both would be to have one as a nickname for the other. Aside from my disfavoring nicknames in general, it would just feel like cheating, and I could never do it. It’s like, I like far more girls’ names than I could ever use, but I wouldn’t feel tempted to use extra middles to pack in more of them.
