Could Nellie be a nickname for this?

I’ve recently started like the nickname [name]Nellie[/name]. I don’t care for [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Helen[/name] or [name]Helena[/name], which I’ve read are where the nickname [name]Nellie[/name] came from. I also don’t care for [name]Penelope[/name], which to me is the most obvious way to get [name]Nellie[/name].

Would Anneliese nickname Nellie work? Also, any suggestions for other full names to get to Nellie would be appreciated.

I think [name]Anneliese[/name] could work, though it isn’t the most intuitive. If you wanted to nickname an [name]Anneliese[/name] “[name]Nellie[/name],” I think you’d have to be proactive in calling her that around friends and family. Otherwise, I think [name]Annie[/name] or [name]Liese[/name]/[name]Lisa[/name] would crop up more naturally.

Other ideas:
[name]Connelly[/name]
[name]Cornelia[/name] or [name]Cornella[/name]
[name]Danielle[/name]
[name]Fenella[/name]
Linell/[name]Linnell[/name]
[name]Nella[/name]
[name]Annabelle[/name] - I think that this, though similar to [name]Anneliese[/name], might be a hint less of a stretch since the “elle” at the end is more prominent

[name]Nellie[/name] was on the top of my list for awhile…love it so much. It was my great grandmother’s name but my dad couldn’t remember what her real name was b/c she was just always known as [name]Nellie[/name]. I don’t like any of the usuals like [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Helen[/name], etc. I did some research and found out my great grandmother was [name]Lillian[/name]! [name]Don[/name]'t think [name]Nellie[/name] would come naturally but I think like a pp said, if you’re proactive and start the nickname early then people will follow. Plus I love [name]Anneliese[/name] and [name]Nellie[/name] certainly makes more sense here than w/ [name]Lillian[/name]! Point is, use the name you like and just start calling her [name]Nellie[/name]! I also like just plain [name]Nell[/name] nn [name]Nellie[/name].

I agree with PP – [name]Nell[/name] is my favorite.
I went to a college with a Nellwyn, though she went by her full name.

[name]Nellie[/name] definitely could be given as a nickname for a [name]Penelope[/name].
The thing is though, if you’re not loving the name completely, I don’t think you should use it.
I think it sounds weird and somewhat out of place for [name]Anneliese[/name].

Other names that could be used:
[name]Ellen[/name]
[name]El[/name]éonore
[name]Annabelle[/name]

[name]Nellie[/name] is also a nn for [name]Noelle[/name] or [name]Janelle[/name].

Why not just use the name [name]Nellie[/name] if you like it so much? Then you don’t have to worry about a nickname at all.

There’s [name]Nella[/name], but might be a bit close to the ever- popular [name]Bella[/name].

You could always do a First-middle name combo, like:
[name]Niamh[/name] ([name]Neve[/name]) [name]Adele[/name] nn [name]Nellie[/name]

I think [name]Anneliese[/name] nn [name]Nellie[/name] could totally work! My only other thought has already been mentioned–[name]Noelle[/name]. I think something like [name]Danielle[/name]/[name]Daniella[/name] could also get the nn [name]Nellie[/name]. I don’t know if you really wanted to use [name]Danielle[/name] up front, though…

I’m not sure I love [name]Nellie[/name] enough to use it as a stand a lone name. I just think it is a super cute nickname. I think I could make [name]Anneliese[/name] nn [name]Nellie[/name] stick and when she got older she could go by whichever she wanted. Chances are I would call her [name]Anneliese[/name] plus a variety of the nicknames. I tend to switch things up. Thanks for the input and suggestions everyone.

[name]Anneliese[/name] is a beautiful name!

I definitely think [name]Nellie[/name] works as a nn for [name]Anneliese[/name], though I don’t think it would be everyone’s instinctive nn. You’d probably have to start off calling her [name]Nellie[/name].

I don’t see the connection, honestly. But maybe that’s just me. I love the suggestions of [name]Annabelle[/name] and [name]Nella[/name].

I’m not sure how people don’t see the connection? [name]AnNELiese[/name]. I think it works easily just as well as [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Helen[/name], etc. [name]Nellie[/name] isn’t obvious from any of those either. As I said earlier, my great grandmother was known solely as [name]Nellie[/name] and her name was [name]Lillian[/name]…now that one doesn’t make any sense haha. I really can’t find the connection there!

At least in [name]Anneliese[/name] the “nel” are in the proper order! In [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Helen[/name] they are not. [name]Lillian[/name], now that is a stretch, but that’s just what they did back then! I’m guessing we would call her [name]Nellie[/name] at home and introduce her still as [name]Anneliese[/name]. When older, if she wanted to go by [name]Nellie[/name] should could.

I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Nellie[/name]. My recent name that could be used as a nn for it is [name]Nephele[/name]. [name]Annaliese[/name] could defo work.

I think you can do [name]Nellie[/name] from [name]Anneliese[/name]. Sure thing.
