Is [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] a “cow name”? What do you think? Would that stop you from using it (for a human)? If so-called cow names are your style, what are your other favorites?
I don’t think [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] is a cow name!! I think it’s very lovely and adorable for a human
Other cute “cow names” I’d use for humans:
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]
[name_f]Dottie[/name_f]
[name_f]Nellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Maggie[/name_f]
[name_u]Penny[/name_u]
Betty-Sue
It is slightly bovine now you mention it, but that’s not my immediate association. It’s first and foremost an increasingly trendy, hipster-vintage sort of name to me.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite “cow name” is [name_f]Clover[/name_f]! (I’m guessing you like that one too )
Others I like…
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Betty[/name_f]
[name_f]Bess[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Dora[/name_f]
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Frieda[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f]
[name_f]Polly[/name_f]
[name_f]Meg[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Ida[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_f]Lettie[/name_f]
15 years ago I would think of it as a cow name tbh, but nowadays it’s quite well-used on people. I think [name_f]Clarabelle[/name_f] would be a really cute name but it’s pretty much still in bovine territory lol
I don’t think so It’s cosy and charming and ranks fairly highly in the UK
I think [name_f]Clarabel[/name_f], [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Betty[/name_f] and [name_f]Peggy[/name_f] are some of my faves
Am I the only one who isn’t really familiar with the concept of a “cow name”? [name_u]Or[/name_u] is there some sort of cultural reference I’m missing? Either way, I don’t associate [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] with cows. It’s certainly a bit old-fashioned but seems to be coming back into style.
Ha ha. Good laugh of the day. I don’t believe in cow names or dog names or hamster names or people names. Well, maybe Fido or Rover. [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] is lovely for any species, including human beings.
I laughed! Definitely [name_f]Bessie[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] for me! [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] I think would be lovely on a little girl still, not MY little girl, but someones haha
I blame cartoons for this honestly
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] is a “cow name” to me! (Maybelle, even more so.)
I don’t think that makes it unusable. I make the same association with [name_f]Clara[/name_f], and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is very fashionable right now.
I really like [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], and I have never thought it as a cow name!
Perfectly fine. Use it!
[name_m]Just[/name_m] because it works well on a cow doesn’t mean its not fine on a person haha
I think [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] would be sweet for a cow or a person or a cat for that matter
It would work very well on a cow, yes. It wouldn’t stop me from using it. I like cow names. Some names with a similar, bovine vibe:
[name_u]Alva[/name_u]
[name_f]Colleen[/name_f]
[name_f]Etta[/name_f]
[name_u]Joyce[/name_u]
[name_u]Laurel[/name_u]
[name_u]Shirley[/name_u]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
I don’t think of [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] as a cow name, but I sure think she’d make a cute one! She’s got the perfect sunshiney, meadowish charm.
[name_f]Clarabelle[/name_f] is the epitome of a cow name!
I think it has bovine vibes but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I love [name_f]Clarabel[/name_f] which is the ultimate cow name. Other paddock-friendly names that come to mind are [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Bessie[/name_f] and [name_f]Hettie[/name_f]. Ermintrude might be a step too far.
Not a cow name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a cute name.
[name_f]Gertie[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
[name_f]Dora[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Maude[/name_f]
[name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]
[name_f]Ida[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], it works on any girl tbh
Now that you mention it…
A very nice cow, though, I’m sure.
And it’s no more cowy than a [name_f]Flora[/name_f] or a [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], certainly.
Perhaps I’d do well to point you towards Cold [name_u]Comfort[/name_u] Farm, where the girl is called [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and the cows are Feckless, Aimless, Pointless, and Graceless. Those are baby names I recommend slightly
-less.
I think [name_f]Maybelline[/name_f] is much cowier- perhaps it’s those old [name_u]Southern[/name_u] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] names which have a hint of the bovine? [name_f]Blanche[/name_f]? [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f]? [name_f]Augusta[/name_f]?
I think if you steer (!?) clear of [name_f]Darla[/name_f] and [name_f]Arla[/name_f], you’re safe.
I love the name [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], but my family members say it sounds like a cow! I don’t consider [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] a cow name, but definitely [name_f]Bessie[/name_f] and [name_f]Clarabel[/name_f] (maybe from a cartoon?).
It’s funny because I have noticed that I love so-called dog names. [name_f]My[/name_f] two girls are [name_u]Riley[/name_u] and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f].
I wouldn’t have immediately thought of cow when hearing [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] but now that you say it, I can see the connection. I still think it’s a pretty name though.
If I were naming a cow, these would come to mind:
[name_f]Bessy[/name_f]
[name_f]Bertha[/name_f]
[name_f]Clarabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Petunia[/name_f]
[name_f]Maude[/name_f]
[name_f]Pauline[/name_f]
[name_f]Thelma[/name_f]
[name_f]Trudy[/name_f]
[name_f]Winnifred[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_u]Penny[/name_u]
[name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphney[/name_f]
[name_f]Eunice[/name_f]
[name_f]Posie[/name_f]
[name_f]Hilda[/name_f]
