[name]Hi[/name] Berries,
I was up a lot last night with my daughter, and kept myself amused by coming up with some rootin tootin cowgirl names! Here are a few i came up with (can’t remember all of them i don’t think!). Although most of them aren’t cowgirl names as such, but they give me the wild-west vibe-
[name]Clementine[/name]
[name]Abilene[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Annie[/name]
[name]Nellie[/name]
[name]Virginia[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Sadie[/name]
I agree with [name]Annie[/name], [name]Cassidy[/name] and [name]Jessie[/name], also
[name]Dale[/name]
[name]Bonnie[/name]
[name]Belle[/name]
[name]Molly[/name]
[name]Cheyenne[/name]
[name]Sally[/name]
Nothing for [name]Jane[/name]? Calamity [name]Jane[/name] and [name]Belle[/name] [name]Starr[/name] are who I think of first when I think of cowgirls.
Aside from those two:
Completely agree on [name]Annie[/name] - as in [name]Annie[/name] [name]Oakley[/name], [name]Annie[/name] Get Your [name]Gun[/name], etc.
[name]Martha[/name] (both the fictional [name]True[/name] Grit heroine and the real Calamity [name]Jane[/name]'s first name) I find the NN [name]Mattie[/name] to be pretty spunky.
[name]Dove[/name]/[name]Dovie[/name] - both because it’s a name that was popular in the 1880s western records of settlers that has really fallen almost entirely out of use anymore, and because of the western Lonesome [name]Dove[/name].
[name]Laura[/name] - [name]Little[/name] House on the [name]Prairie[/name]
[name]Willa[/name] - As in [name]Willa[/name] Cather. [name]Billie[/name], too.
[name]Caroline[/name] - Ma from [name]Little[/name] House. I always, reading the books, thought Ma was rather underplayed for how strong she was.
[name]Icie[/name] - one of the Lost Names of 1880 I got from Nameberry. It was probably a variant on Icesis/[name]Isis[/name] though. Rather sweet in a bizarre way.
I can kind of see [name]Clementine[/name], as it’s got the whole folk song thing… but then [name]Susannah[/name] probably deserves a mention too.
A lot of old classic names’ spunkier nicknames feel very cowgirl to me… the names themselves are more ladylike but the nicknames feel freckled and cute and bouncy… I’m thinking of [name]Pepper[/name], [name]Birdie[/name], [name]Penny[/name], [name]Sally[/name] type nicknames.
[name_f]Alabama[/name_f], [name_f]Ally[/name_f] for short. I think it’s spunky and different
[name_u]Oakley[/name_u] too, different and spunky. And a total cowgirl name. [name_u]Kody[/name_u], I love this one too. It might be more of a boys name though, I think it still works though.
