I’ve come across this unusual nature name a few times and I rather like it. When I mentioned it to my sister her response was to laugh and say, “Oh yeah, here’s my son [name]Crane[/name] and my daughter Wrecking Ball.”
So berries, what are your opinions on the boy’s name [name]Crane[/name]? Brutal honesty appreciated.
While it is an interesting idea, I too am reminded of construction equipment. Or even “craning” one’s neck to see something. I don’t like it as a name.
I didn’t think of the construction equipment at all. [name]Just[/name] the bird. Not sure how I feel about it though…If he ends up long and lanky with a large nose, that would be most unfortunate…haha.
I like it. My first thought was the bird (I love sandhill cranes!), but the problems others have mentioned are definitely something that gives me pause. It is not unheard of as a surname, so I think people would get used to it up front, but there would probably be a lot of double takes. I think using it in the middle would be the safer option, and you could still use it as a family nick name that way.
Yeah, I think more of the bird…those birds are beautiful, but also kind of weird and sad? And going with beautiful…and the legend/album [name]Crane[/name] Wife…I get a somewhat feminine vibe from it. I wouldn’t mind it in the middle spot for either a boy or girl. It’s not a typical bird name though so I’d kind of expect cranes to have some special meaning to the parents or something.
It’s totally nms, but it’s not the worst. I do think it carries enough different meanings to be sort of confusing, and i’m not a fan of the sound either. But at the same time, if you were my friend and very excited about it, i don’t think i’d try to dissuade you; i’d chalk it up to different taste rather than bad taste, kwim?
It’s an interesting prospect. My immediate thought is [name]Frasier[/name], so it’s out for me. But I think someone else could probably make it work. Especially in the mn spot.
Thanks guys. At the moment it’s probably going to go in the middle spot of one of my combos, I agree it’s kind of a lot for a first name. @jesba- I’ve grown up in nature and at our cabin there are usually two pairs of sandhill cranes that nest right in front of the house. That’s why I’m considering this name in the first place.
