Create a family (but it's got a twist)

tw: mild racism

Jiyoon " Julie " Park (11) is one of Tild’s good friends, but she isn’t the one with a crush on her brother. Julie still thinks boys are icky, and doesn’t fathom why their friend is so head over heels over a boy. Boys are gross and mean in her opinion, and hopes that her friend doesn’t get hurt. She’s civil with Tild’s brothers, though— she gets the whole brother thing. In fact, Julie would even say that Dieter and the rest of Tild’s siblings are… tolerable. (She loves playing soccer with them, though. Don’t tell anyone.)

Julie lives right next door to Tild, and is the youngest child of four siblings— two girls and two boys. Her parents are first-generation immigrants from South Korea, and while they want everyone to pronounce her name as it should be— Jiyoon— some of the more ignorant members of the faculty and student body alike have decided to not pronounce it correctly, despite Julie reminding them multiple times. In the end, she gave herself the nickname Julie, because it was similar enough to Jiyoon. It’s a relief that her core friend group all can pronounce Jiyoon, though, as that’s her preferred name.

Julie is bilingual and is fluent in both Korean and English. When she isn’t hanging around Tild and her school friends, she can be found speaking Korean with her friends from the after school Korean language program she goes to. Made by a Korean immigrant who wanted to keep the language alive in the west, she has another group of friends that she holds very dear.
