Ximena ’ Mina ’ Ines Lucinda Escalera (28) is Sol’s close friend and a fellow teacher at the school they work at, serving as part of the arts department who specialises in pottery, ceramics and sculpture lessons. Belonging to a more ‘free’ subject, there have been no objections to Mina’s tattoos - albeit her most notable piece is on her back and subsequently remains hidden from the student body thanks to the teaching dress code. Like Sol, Mina is the youngest in her family, albeit she’s 17 years younger than her closest sibling in age - her older brother - and only 11 years older than her niece, because of this.
Mina is technically the half-sister of her older siblings - two brothers and a sister - thanks to their father remarrying several years after the passing of his first wife. This did lead to some resentment between Mina’s mother and her siblings prior to her birth, as while it wasn’t like the marriage occurred immediately or had been preceded by an affair, there were natural sentiments their father should have remained unwed following the passing - and only with the welcoming of their younger sister did Mina’s siblings come to embrace their stepmother, after recognising how well she cared for Mina and had tried to do the same for them.
Now, Mina serves as the main source of advice and escape for her niece, who’s known as Flick. Flick’s unintentionally involved in drama relating to her close friend Alexis, whose best friend’s girlfriend believes they have some hidden feelings for her boyfriend. The reason Flick has turned to Mina in these times is because she actually knows the older sister of the girlfriend who feels so insecure in regards to her relationship, and hopes that with some assistance, things can be smoothed out before the relationship implodes due to this hostility towards Alexis.

[name_m]Prior[/name_m] to moving to university to study classical music and music theory, [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] was involved in a very toxic relationship that dominated her time at high school - one that bordered on infamous for how terrible it was. Hazel’s then-boyfriend cheated on her whenever he felt like it - usually with girls he met while attending parties he went to while staying with his dad and stepmom in another town - only to turn around and accuse [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] of being unreasonable or outright crazy; becoming highly adept at gaslighting as a means of getting her to stop questioning his behaviour or rumours circulating the school. This resulted in her not only second guessing herself frequently but becoming highly insecure and constantly waiting for bad news regarding her boyfriend. His ultimate betrayal would come when he hooked up with another member of the school orchestra who flaunted this information - leading to a huge row between Hazel’s boyfriend and this girl, as her actions made it impossible for him to manipulate his long suffering girlfriend, who finally broke up with him following this incident, and her ex would be expelled not that long after for threatening the girl he cheated with, blaming her for ruining his consistent relationship.
[name_m]Even[/name_m] now, [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] doesn’t really know why her ex was so insistent on maintaining their relationship when he looked to other people so regularly - aside from his desire for some stability she provided. Upon meeting her current boyfriend at university in the library, [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] finally found someone who treated her with respect, kindness and gentility, however her old fears still plague her and stemmed largely from his closeness with [name_u]Alexis[/name_u]. As someone who’s always compared herself negatively to others - starting with her older sister who’s training to become a surgeon - [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] seemed far more interesting, inspiring and attractive than her; leading to her fears about them wanting to be with her boyfriend, someone who’s so completely good natured and supportive. She spent a lot of time fearing she would be replaced when he realised how he truly felt for them, and every time bad news cropped up in conversation or texts, [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] was certain she was about to be dumped. In spite of her existing anxieties, [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] is trying to combat these toxic thought patterns as she doesn’t want to destroy her relationship with someone she truly loves. Through her parents she’s accessing therapy, which she attends following cello practice every [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f], and her doctor is trying to help her recognise why she’s worth her boyfriend, as well as to leave behind the negative thought patterns her ex has taught her to fall back on.

[name_f]Emmie[/name_f] has a big family, which put a lot of pressure on her to become a doctor or a lawyer because both her elder siblings were successful lawyers. She is engaged to a drummer who plays in a death metal band which her parents dissaprove of but she doesn’t care.

[name_u]Pip[/name_u] absolutely despised her sister’s ex-boyfriend, thinking he was never worth [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] and truthfully breathed a sigh of relief when the breakup finally happened, although it hurt her knowing her sibling went through so much pain because of this boy. She was never that interested in dating herself, realising she was asexual shortly after turning 19, and came out to her family six months later - being very relieved when they accepted and reassured her this made no difference.
Having always been a level-headed person, it’s undeniable [name_u]Pip[/name_u] possesses passion in whatever she applies herself to, creating a nice balancing act in how she applies herself. In spite of having hated Hazel’s ex, she’s very supportive of Emmie’s boyfriend, seeing how much he cares for her and believing the Johnson’s aren’t giving him a chance based on pre-conceived ideas about the heavy metal scene: something [name_u]Pip[/name_u] considers ridiculous given how her sister’s ex chose to behave. Currently, [name_u]Pip[/name_u] lives with three fellow medical and nursing students in a shared house, alongside her adopted pet tabby cat Millhouse who she got three years ago on a whim (one of her few sudden purchases but she’s incredibly glad for this one).

She has a part-time job working at a lounge on 11th Street which often has bands perform and loves it when Emmie’s fiancé has his band perform there. Bren knows a bit about abusive and toxic relationships due to the troubles her brother suffered with his abusive now ex-fiancée. She warns Hazel not to ever get back in contact with her ex. However she also knows Hazel is not at fault and tells her not to blame herself for what happened. She is close with the other medical and nursing school friends.

[name_u]Virgil[/name_u] ’ [name_u]Van[/name_u] ’ [name_m]Fabian[/name_m] DeLaci (18) is the youngest sibling of the four and also the most uncertain about where he wants to go next in life. Unlike his sisters, Van’s never fully settled in a particular field of interest: [name_f]Jordana[/name_f] always loved fashion, [name_f]Bren[/name_f] naturally comforted and cared for others, whereas he has several interests in the creative field - specifically music in the form of vocal training - having a lovely baritone voice, and composing his own short stories, most of which relate to his experiences as a POC, as well as familial relationships - but hasn’t narrowed one down as his older siblings managed to.
What [name_u]Van[/name_u] has decided to take a gap year once he graduates from school this year, and he’s going to work at an LGBTQIAP+ cafe/restaurant, in part influenced by him coming out as gender fluid and using he/they pronouns. As the baby of the family he was also the most protected regarding his older brother’s abusive relationship but the details he is aware of horrify him, and he’s actually very protective of his eldest sibling, constantly checking up on him now that his sister’s are away from home (but [name_f]Bren[/name_f] and [name_f]Jordana[/name_f] get updates so they know their brother’s doing well). [name_u]Van[/name_u] absolutely adores his niece and takes her to the park or to the local arcade if his brother and parents are busy or just need a slight break, having introduced her to some of his friends who think she’s absolutely precious.
Before starting at his new job, [name_u]Van[/name_u] has made arrangements to visit and stay with [name_f]Bren[/name_f] over the summer before she comes back home to spend time with everyone, looking forwards to getting into the band scene she’s interacted with thanks to her friendship with [name_f]Emmie[/name_f] - as Van’s always up for any live performance, regardless of genre.

Gisele Misty Glenroth (24) is Van’s co-worker and friend, being on good terms with all the other co-workers and the boss. She is the older sister of Annie Glenroth, sometimes going to parties and events with Annie whenever she’s free. She is currently dating Kel and she would have married him, but both realised they weren’t ready for marriage and that engaged life was hurting their relationship more than helping it, so they broke it off and went back to girlfriend and boyfriend. Gisele hates it when people ask her, “So if you broke off your engagement, are you no longer together?” with her having to explain that they’re still dating but the engagement wasn’t right, so they went back to dating. Their relationship has never really been the same due to the shock factor of breaking off their engagement despite it being a mutual decision and often while arguing, they’d often say “I can’t believe I was engaged to you at one point.” Van has told her their relationship was complicating but not abusive and that they should seek a counselor to decide whether to hold on or break up.
Annie doesn’t get involved in their drama and stays out, instead focusing on her own life and avoiding stressful situations and Gisele envies her lifestyle but the two sisters are on good terms. Some of Annie’s friends inadvertently worried Gisele when she heard them talking behind her back to Annie and one asked, “Hey Annie, isn’t your sister Gisele pregnant?” Gisele usually doesn’t listen to gossip but had been questioning herself recently and felt something about her was different from what she always thought but couldn’t tell what it was. She was somewhat convinced she may have been pregnant by Kel but after taking multiple pregnancy tests, they were all negative and they never actually had a baby.
So if it wasn’t a pregnancy, what was it that she was discovering about herself? Gisele was actually pansexual. She was in a relationship with a man, but she actually was attracted to all genders. Van was one of the first people who knew and referred her to work at the same cafe/restaurant as him and she got the job. At first, she wasn’t going to come out to Kel. She knew he wasn’t a bigot but feared it could hurt their relationship more and that she was afraid he’d think she’d “fall in love with literally everyone” but Van told her that she should come clean to him because she isn’t doing anything wrong by being pansexual but she can’t be dating if she isn’t open and honest. However Van also told her that if she isn’t accepted by Kel, that he and his family and friends will comfort her and will support her no matter what. Gisele came out to Kel and Kel accepted her and told her that he is straight but his sexuality doesn’t forbid him from dating people of other sexualities as long as they’re attracted to him and that him dating a pansexual woman isn’t lesser than dating a straight woman. She and Van are good friends and sometimes she hangs out with his family and friends as well.

Calla Noemi Vewell (23) is Gisele’s close friend who also knows Annie well, the two girls having bonded on their first day of school about having very similar names to their sisters (Calla’s older sister having been named Keela) - although she still can’t fathom why the Glenroth’s gave both their daughters names ending in ‘elle’, and has privately wondered if this is what leads to Gisele comparing her life to Annie’s sometimes. Given the drama surrounding Kel and Gisele’s former engagement, she knows her friend was envious that Annie’s breakup with her now ex - Sungjin Lee - was amicable and people respected her decision, given Sungjin’s developing feelings for his classmate Moe, who Annie acknowledged was better suited to him. She’s been trying to help Gisele move away from these comparative tendencies and focus on everything that makes her fun, interesting and engaging; having pointed out Annie’s friends are way more invested in drama and gossip than anyone Gisele’s close to.
A very straightforward person, Calla thinks everyone should keep themselves out of Gisele’s relationship business, as she’s also friendly with Kel and feels the couple face too many unfair expectations already. In her last year of high school, Calla’s younger brother got his girlfriend pregnant and the amount of people who bothered her about their business caused her to come out of her shell more to defend not just his but also her own privacy: having formerly been known as a quiet member of the school’s Gifted and Talented Programme, whose talent for mathematics was highly respected. Now Calla’s about to finish her degree in the subject but does not want to be a teacher by any means - knowing she doesn’t have the enthusiasm or interest, never mind the parents nagging - and is working as a personal tutor for the time being while saving up to pursue her masters degree, hoping on combining engineering with mathematics for her next step in education.
Calla’s bisexual, something she figured out in high school actually (thankfully before the pregnancy drama kicked off), and has been with her girlfriend for three years after they met at a university party. They’ve only just moved in together and she’s been relieved this change hasn’t put strain or tension into their relationship, as it was one of her biggest fears given how she’s seen this happen to other friends. Although she gives sound advice, Calla doesn’t like being seen as some guru or magical advisor for everything, and is good at setting boundaries when someone’s asking for answers she genuinely cannot provide.

[name_f]Keela[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [Vewell] Allington (27) is Calla’s older sister and the firstborn child of her parents, who works as a preschool teacher and recently got married. Like her sister, Keela’s not someone who minces her words often and ironically always seems more stern outside of her job, where she’s a very kind, encouraging and approachable woman considering the young age of the children she works with. This side of her personality developed thanks to having been bullied a lot when she was young thanks to being a very shy person, and her bluntness developed to shut down anyone who wanted to belittle or undermine her.
In high school, [name_f]Keela[/name_f] even developed a reputation for standing up on the behalf of other students and vehemently opposing any kind of bullying, which led to her not just getting a place on the school council; but winning the respect of her peers. She did forgive most of her former bullies - as they remained in the same schools - but the worst tormentors she admittedly hasn’t made peace with yet, as [name_f]Keela[/name_f] feels it’s detrimental to force this process and won’t help anyone. Her now-husband is actually the older brother of someone [name_f]Keela[/name_f] defended in high school, as she was autistic and certain people would cruelly decide to deliberately trigger her sensitivities, which was something [name_f]Keela[/name_f] absolutely despised and never allowed to happen in her presence.
She and her husband have only just got back from their honeymoon, with [name_f]Keela[/name_f] having some extra time off work which she’s dedicating to building her greenhouse and garden - as she and her husband are hoping to grow their own vegetables. They have two pet house rabbits - [name_m]Hutch[/name_m] and [name_f]Bunny[/name_f] - who her sister-in-law absolutely dotes upon, and [name_f]Keela[/name_f] has either [name_f]Calla[/name_f] or their brother usually look after them when she and her husband are away, with them bringing his sister round to spend time with the little critters. Baking is something else she has a particular talent for, especially muffins and cupcakes of any kind, which has made her very popular at school bake sale events.

He simply doesn’t understand why [name_f]Keela[/name_f] so passionately demands that the towels be folded a certain way! When you’ve spent eleven years just stuffing clean laundry into closets and cabinets, having to fold things (not to mention in a specific pattern) is a difficult change.
On the bright side, [name_m]Archie[/name_m] absolutely adores his wife and spends as much time as possible with her. They are finding it difficult to have free time together, though, with their different work schedules. [name_m]Archie[/name_m] is an airlines mechanic and usually works night shift, and he sleeps during the day. He does enjoy having [name_f]Keela[/name_f] home this past week, though he knows she is looking forward to seeing the preschoolers again.
One major thing they’ve been struggling with is the fact that [name_f]Keela[/name_f] wants one child at most, and would prefer to adopt than have a biological baby. While she says it is because she wants their child to have their 100% attention, [name_m]Archie[/name_m] knows the truth. [name_f]Keela[/name_f] is extremely afraid of childbirth, as her grandmother died while giving birth to Keela’s mother. It was a true miracle that the baby survived. [name_m]Archie[/name_m] knows the adoption process can be long and difficult, and [name_f]Keela[/name_f], tough and stern as she might seem, is actually a very sensitive person and wouldn’t handle the adoption process well the first time – nonetheless a second or third.

[name_m]Kurtis[/name_m] [name_u]Henry[/name_u] Vewell (52) is Archie’s father-in-law and [name_f]Keela[/name_f] and Calla’s father. He works as a couples counselor, who Kel and [name_f]Gisele[/name_f] (affectionately called “Kelsele” by [name_m]Kurtis[/name_m] due to Kel also happening to have the same name ending sound) are currently seeking to decide how to handle their relationship moving forward. He and [name_m]Archie[/name_m] are on much different schedules but when they talk to each other, it is always a great conversation. He relates to [name_m]Archie[/name_m] for not being a neat organised individual before he lived with his wife, but now he’s found pleasure in it and loves vests and ties. He is very passionate and affectionate to his wife and always makes time for her. [name_m]Kurtis[/name_m] knows his wife heals with the regret of losing her mother, the grief of her loss, and the longing to know her better and always acts as her rock. He knows [name_f]Keela[/name_f] is afraid of childbirth and tries to help her make a decision by her own gut instinct and not out of fear, but also doesn’t want her uncomfortable. He and his wife have known each other since grade school and are about to celebrate 30 years of marriage.

[name_f]Sapphire[/name_f] [name_f]Jaylah[/name_f] Vewell (3) is Kurtis’s granddaughter - his only grandchild for the time being. She was born to [name_m]Kurtis[/name_m] and his wife’s only son, their youngest child, who’s the brother of [name_f]Keela[/name_f] and Calla; being well-known by relatives for her infectious laugh, obsession with music of any kind (especially piano and keyboards) and how she’s almost always a ray of sunshine to be around. In spite of being born to teenage parents, who were only 18 at the time she was born, Sapphire’s been raised surrounded by nothing but love, protection and kindness - with arguably the most unusual part of her life being that her parents are still together, in spite of many people (including family members) assuming things would fall apart given their young ages and the considerable responsibility they were expected to take on.

He is also extremely charismatic and friendly and was very popular in high school, however, he drifted away from his friends when his daughter was born and he had to take on the responsibilities of a parent. He loves his daughter more than anything, but he does wish that he hadn’t lost his friends the way that he did.
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u] and Sapphire’s mother broke up amicably when [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f] was 2, but they still are good friends who care about and respect each other, and they have a good co-parenting system going for them. They also have continued live near each other and regularly hang out. [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] and his ex are both dog lovers, and they adopted two Shiba Inu puppies from the same litter, Elliot’s puppy being named [name_f]Suki[/name_f], while his ex named her puppy [name_u]Storm[/name_u]. [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f] absolutely adores both of her new puppies, and loves taking walks with he parents and the pups!

[name_f]Via[/name_f] and [name_m]Damien[/name_m] met at a support group for people who’d experienced sudden loss of a family member through illness - [name_f]Via[/name_f] having lost her father to a very aggressive lymphoma when she was just 17; a trauma furthered by the fact the two hadn’t had the easiest of relationships prior to his diagnosis, and she experienced a great deal of guilt that only once he became sick were they able to fully reconcile.
The source of the conflict between [name_f]Via[/name_f] and her father was her desire to become involved in the music industry - specifically as a vocal performer, having received singing lessons from a young age at the request of her nana, an accomplished [name_m]Dutch[/name_m] opera performer - which he saw as frivolous and doomed to fail; an assumption his daughter didn’t take kindly to. [name_f]Via[/name_f] would often stay over at friends in her teens, to avoid arguing with him when he asked her the inevitable question about changing her mind in regards to her future; however during the time she spent with her dad once the cancer was uncovered, she listened to him properly and came to understand he didn’t doubt her talent, but had little faith in the industry. Ultimately, Via’s father gave her his blessing before he passed away, and actually helped her apply to a prestigious music school where she could further her vocal techniques.
With her degree almost finished, [name_f]Via[/name_f] belongs to a symphonic metal band named Witch’s Vial, serving as its front woman. She’s actually written a song dedicated to [name_m]Damien[/name_m], who she loves dearly - on account of how he didn’t write her off as a self-absorbed artist, due to her being quite closed off in the early days of the group meetings; but hasn’t performed it publically, at his request. [name_f]Via[/name_f] thinks it’s just him feeling bashful - as he proved to be just that in the early days of them dating - but really, it’s his guilt about her not knowing he’s seeing someone else that means he doesn’t want her releasing it publically…and there also might be the slight issue of his other girlfriend hearing it, as Witch’s Vial have picked up traction, receiving local radio play.

[name_f]Naomi[/name_f] and [name_m]Damien[/name_m] met because she was a caretaker for his mother when she was sick, and they’ve been dating for nearly 2 years. She has a sneaking suspicion he’s seeing someone else because she notices his behavior around her, but she hasn’t mentioned anything yet because she doesn’t want to seem jealous or irrational.
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f] is an only child from a very tight knit family, her mother was a stay at home mom, and her father (a Japanese immigrant) was a history professor, and so she’s a little spoiled and definitely used to having her family’s attention.
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f] is actually a big fan of Witch’s Vial, and even has recently become friends with [name_f]Via[/name_f], though she doesn’t suspect her of being Damien’s other girlfriend at all. He is still working at his university as a history professor, and even teaches one of Naomi’s close friends. He came to the US with his family at a young age. He loves his daughter [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], but admittedly isn’t the biggest fan of [name_m]Damien[/name_m].

[name_u]Vaughn[/name_u] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] DeLaci (48) is another professor and part of the DeLaci family. He is a calculus professor and teaches the same friend of Naomi’s. Despite the hectic family life his family goes through, they are only looking up and he is staying positive. He and [name_u]Ash[/name_u] get along very nicely and he also supports both [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] and [name_f]Via[/name_f] and finds them both very intelligent but doesn’t know [name_m]Damien[/name_m] and would be surprised to learn of the love triangle but he never gets involved in those things so he wouldn’t know Damien’s love for both.
