Create A Family (With A Twist)

Tahire [name_m]Bain[/name_m] [43] is [name_u]Casey[/name_u], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], and Angie’s mother. She moved from Turkey to [name_u]England[/name_u] to major in architecture at Cambridge. While living in Cambridge, she visited a pub and met her future husband, a construction worker, who was visiting with his friends. They fell in love, and when Tahire graduated she moved to Hackney to be with him. Tahire designed the [name_m]Bain[/name_m] family home, while her husband built in. She is an intelligent woman, and though soft-spoken she has an air of respect about her that makes you listen when she speaks.

Lunara ’ [name_f]Luna[/name_f] ’ [name_f]Sibel[/name_f] Younan (23) is Tahire’s niece who also resides in [name_u]England[/name_u], albeit her family are based in Manchester opposed to the south. Luna’s dad is Tahire’s older brother who decided to also move for education opportunities, granted this was after [name_f]Luna[/name_f] had been born and he was pursuing a PhD after remaining in Diyarbakır with his family, where he and Tahire were raised. What was supposed to be a stay for the duration of her dad’s studies ended up with [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and her younger siblings remaining in Manchester permenately, after coming to enjoy having their family so close by, and ultimately admitting now their grandparents had passed, there wasn’t anything tying them back to Turkey.

In part, [name_f]Luna[/name_f] still suspects her mum pushed for them to stay, as she endured an unhappy childhood and is estranged from her own parents, with the added distance no doubt bringing her further peace of mind. Having completed a degree in visual communication, Luna’s currently working in retail at a small bookshop while applying for positions relating to her job, even if she admits it’s sometimes half-hearted as she’s faced a lot of rejection in spite of her working being praised. A creative, impulsive and free-spirited young woman, she wants nothing more than to fully immerse herself in art; wanting to make her parents proud given all they’ve done to improve the education she’s accessed, having helped her obtain a scholarship for private school when she was 11.

Gracen Ylira Odvark “Grace” (22) is Luna’s coworker at the bookshop One More Chapter. Unlike Luna, she’s actually perfectly content to work at this job forever. She loves books—everything about them: the covers, the characters, the way they smell, the way people cry and laugh and bond over them, and just the way they feel in her hands when she journeys into a different world for hours at a time.

Her dad is a single parent and has been since Grace was small and her mom walked out on them. It was an extremely difficult time for both of them, since her dad was (and still is) a recovering alcoholic. They don’t have any direct contact with her, but Grace did some digging and found a website where her mom sells abstract art, a lot of which Grace is pretty sure is inspired by their broken family. So when she can, she buys her work—anonymously, because if her mother doesn’t want to be a part of their lives, then Grace won’t force her to.

[name_m]Anthony[/name_m] [name_u]Seren[/name_u] Odvark " [name_u]Tony[/name_u] " (54) is [name_f]Grace[/name_f] 's father. He is proud of his daughter for having found a job and one that she is passionate about to boot. He knows his alcoholoi addiction really made her life much harder and brought her years of embarassment in school , which he wants to make up to her by spending each weekend with her on fun activities like playing board games and riding a bike to the nearby park. He knows that [name_f]Grace[/name_f] found her mother’s website because he noticed the website tab being there when she let him print out a document for work. He doesn’t miss his ex-wife and is certain he will never forgive her - her abadonment of a 8-month -old is something which made him deeply confused. Despite his younger sister and her husband helping him with baby [name_u]Gracen[/name_u], he spirealed into depression and addiction nonetheless, which began a really dark time in his life. He went to therapy when [name_u]Gracen[/name_u] was 7 and Tony’s sister threatened to sue for [name_f]Grace[/name_f] 's custody if he didn’t make serious steps to sort the alcoholism out. He went to rehab but stuffered a relapse when [name_u]Gracen[/name_u] was 14, which led her to live with her aunt , uncle and cousins for two years until [name_u]Tony[/name_u] started going to AA meetings and attending therapy again. He found a passion for biking and jogging which also required not drinking to be enjoyed properly - there , he met a woman , [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] , who was the daughter of an alcoholic whose mother died of vodka poisioning when she was 17 - which was just a year older than [name_f]Grace[/name_f] was at the time. Jacqueline’s story really helped him understand what [name_f]Grace[/name_f] has been going through because of him. He is grateful to [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] for opening his eyes and has found many friends through his hobby of biking and jogging, but none as close as her. He even knows that [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] is trying to get him to go on a date with her older sister, who’s a divorcee - he has been considering that but is afraid that [name_u]Gracen[/name_u] is going to get angry once he starts dating and try to get him to go back to his ex-wife. He is okay with [name_u]Gracen[/name_u] buying her mom’s art but he doesn’t want her in their life again , as he thinks she was very egotistical and never saw anything wothwhile in life other than her artistic career - not even family.

tw: ectopic pregnancy

[name_f]Julia[/name_f] " [name_u]Jules[/name_u] " [name_f]Brigitte[/name_f] [Odvark] Kowalski (49) is Tony’s younger sister and Grace’s aunt. In spite of being the baby of her family, [name_u]Jules[/name_u] was arguably always the level-headed child, frequently having been called ‘boring’ in her teenage years thanks to being far more interested in studies, exams and planning for the future than any of the fun [name_u]Tony[/name_u] involved himself in. Now working as a successful gastroenterologist, Jules’s mentality clearly paid off, although she was unable to escape stress due to the ongoing alcoholism her brother struggled with following the abandonment of his wife. Having always been a little severe as well as stoic, [name_u]Jules[/name_u] is much more unforgiving regarding what her sister-in-law did, opinions she tried her best to hide from her niece as she knows part of [name_f]Grace[/name_f] will always love her mother. Part of this stems from [name_u]Jules[/name_u] having gone through an ectopic pregnancy when she and her now-husband were engaged, resulting in a complicated surgery that left the likelihood of [name_u]Jules[/name_u] naturally conceiving highly unlikely. Seeing her former in-law walk away from her child, knowing full well what [name_u]Jules[/name_u] went through, left a deep resentment in her regarding the woman; especially as she found success after choosing this path.

Following [name_u]Tony[/name_u] getting his life back on track, [name_u]Jules[/name_u] and her husband decided to begin fostering, considering it important to give a home to children needing one. After several successful temporary placements, the couple took in a then twelve year old boy, who developed a profound bond with the couple; coming to share Jules’s love of scrapbooking and gardening, specifically growing her own vegetables which the family cook with. This connection was so important to him, social services eventually decided adoption would be the best decision for both parties - leading [name_u]Jules[/name_u] to become a mother later in life, but it’s something she absolutely loves and wouldn’t exchange for anything. It hasn’t dampened her closeness with [name_f]Grace[/name_f] though, regularly visiting her at the book shop and her cousin also now pops in - coming to share Gracen’s love of literature. She and her husband are also in the midst of planning a holiday for the whole family, with the exception of [name_u]Tony[/name_u], as [name_u]Jules[/name_u] wants to give her brother a chance to meet up with Jacqueline’s sister without the same anxiety weighing on his mind.

(tw: cheating)
[name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [Haynes] [name_m]Durham[/name_m] (55) is the older sister of [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] [name_m]Crane[/name_m] , who is known in the local cyclist community. [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] divorced her husband - [name_m]Hank[/name_m] - a little over two years ago but decided not to go back to her maiden name , as she claimed that her career in the wedding planning sector has been already established under the surname [name_m]Durham[/name_m] and so she doesn’t want to confuse potential customers. She is very well put together, no-nosense kind of person who adheres to a strict vegan diet and an elegant attire 24/7. Her ex-husband was always a little bit more laid-back - enjoying motorcycles, tinkering and being very gregorious (which - she admits - helped her develop a lot of skills when it comes to cooking, organising social events and such, strengthening her career). Her and [name_m]Hank[/name_m] had four children - three sons and a daughter - over 23 years of marriage. It all seemed perfect until she found out [name_m]Hank[/name_m] cheated on her with a recently widowed woman who was a new addition to Hank’s motorcycle club. It broke her heart and subsequently caused a huge rift in the family - her daughter even going as far as completely cutting [name_m]Hank[/name_m] off to this day and the others having a much colder , more reserved relationship with him than before. [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] didn’t even try to influence their decisions and although she told her children the truth about Hank’s infidelity, she never spoke about him to them since - not opening up about the details as she felt it would be too painful for her.

[name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] was always the person she trusted the most in life - they were both “latchkey children” growing up who came home from school to an empty house becayse they had two working parents - their father being a rubber factory worker and their mother a nurse. This meant that [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] often helped [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] with homework, they talked a lot and even prepared dinner so it could be ready before their mother was home. It wasn’t an easy life for them but they both grew into fiercly independent women who deeply trusted each other. As such, [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] is the only one who knows all the details about [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] 's situtation with her ex-husband. Due to [name_f]Jacquline[/name_f] 's support , [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] found a new , sporty hobby - yoga - and maintained a positive outlook on life after the divorce. She began focusing on her career more - despite initially being afraid that she’s going to become less polite and bitter seeing happy couples in her wedding planning salon. [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] also keeps in contact with all of her children and grandchildren - having seven of them and being overjoyed for her second oldest son , who is having twins with his fiancee. She didn’t expect [name_f]Jacquline[/name_f] to become matchmaker and try to set up a date for her , but admits that [name_u]Tony[/name_u] is really her type and she’s excited to meet him, even more so when she knows that [name_u]Tony[/name_u] ’ s sister supports that endevour.

Wow, just like the other game I just entered, this game also has me tagged 11 days ago! Fool me once, fool me twice, but hey, happy April Fool’s Day! :black_joker:

Although some maturity warning: This character has disappeared and his whereabouts and status are not confirmed.

[name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] [name_m]Ferenc[/name_m] [name_m]Zalan[/name_m] (born 8 January 1996, disappeared 27 September 2020, aged 24; could be 26) was a wedding planning client of Cynthia’s but never married, having disappeared before then. He is Grace’s maternal half-brother and like [name_f]Grace[/name_f], was abandoned by his mother - the same mother who abandoned [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. However [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] have never met and the former spent most of his life with his single father in Hungary. All he had known at the time was that she and his father had a brief relationship in Hungary and that [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] was most likely an unplanned pregnancy. She let her boyfriend name the baby and decorate his nursery and acted like it was out of kindness but really it was because she was leaving them to go back to the U.K. and forget she was ever part of their lives. She would soon meet [name_m]Tony[/name_m] and since do this abandonment again with him, although this time both of them were British and were also married in the near-four years between her first and second abandonment. [name_m]Tony[/name_m] had never known about the first abandonment or that his then-girlfriend, now ex-wife, had only gotten into the relationship with [name_m]Tony[/name_m] weeks after. It was believed [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and Laszlo’s mother had serious psychological issues to have abandoned both families and not tell anyone anything and would use her abstract art to express how she was inside but deep down her actions were unforgivable.

However when [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] turned 18, he needed to know the truth about his mother more than ever. So he visited the U.K. and stayed in a hotel. He tried desperately to find out information about his mother but was terrible at speaking English which made it harder for him to get information. He made a very awkward mistake when he unknowingly went to one of Cynthia’s planned bachelorette parties in the hotel’s banquet hall after misreading the sign on the door saying it was for party guests only, with him thinking it was for hotel guests only, which he was a hotel guest. It was a fun upbeat party and while [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] didn’t talk much, he did dance a lot, which got one of the women his age into dancing with him and calmed his previous frustration. At the end of the party, that woman told him that Cynthia’s bachelorette parties were great and she had a fun time with him. She confessed to him that [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] never has bachelorette parties and usually has less rowdy wedding-related events and that it was her then-husband [name_m]Hank[/name_m] who convinced her to start making parties like this. While confessing this, she realises he is bad at English and can’t fully grasp what anyone was saying but is falling for him and decides to teach him English during the rest of his vacation. [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] was forgetting about his mother and had a good time with this woman and decided to stay in contact with her after he left the vacation to go back to Hungary.

The two continued to contact each other for years and this point [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] had become significantly better at speaking English and can now sound legible and understand others clearly. He was now dating the woman and officially became boyfriend and girlfriend when he went back to the U.K. He decided to study abroad in the U.K., having supported their culture and genuinely loved the country and was considering getting citizenship. He had seen [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] a few times around town and apologised to her for mistakenly crashing a party she planned. [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] didn’t care for shenanigans but knew he was more clueless than mean-spirited and let it slide. He remembered his girlfriend saying [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] let [name_m]Hank[/name_m] plan the bachelorette party but barely understood what she said at the time plus she said it years ago, so he thought [name_m]Hank[/name_m] was actually there at the party and cheating on his wife with the other partygoers. His deductions were completely wrong, but little did he know it would eventually lead to the right result. Eventually he and his girlfriend bonded closer together while he stayed in the U.K., for the first year in his life that he spent more time in the U.K. than Hungary. He ultimately decided to go for dual Hungarian-British citizenship because he had made a deal with his father to still visit him and contact him, not leaving him like his father’s once-girlfriend did. At this point, he had mostly given up on the past pain and looked towards the future. His girlfriend knew about the trauma attached to his mother leaving him and he made a promise to her that he would never abandon her, then asked for her hand in marriage. She accepted. The two had become clients of [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] and she was going to help plan their wedding. A month later, [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] took a plane back to Hungary to see his father for 2 weeks and around that time he learned of [name_m]Tony[/name_m] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] also being abandoned and had thoughts of trying to meet them. What he didn’t know while he was gone was that his fiancee’s uncle, who had a harsh perception of people he didn’t know and trust, tried to talk his fiancee out of marrying him. He knew nothing about their relationship and told her “He’s not going to come back. And if he does, he’s only marrying you because he wants your British citizenship. He literally had to have you teach him proper English. We can’t have people like that coming into our family.” The two argued and she uninvited him to the wedding, citing he “had no idea about the couple so he should have no place to judge”. Technically speaking, he was born to a British mother so was already half-British, even if he didn’t grow up there or grow up speaking the language.

The day [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] landed back into the U.K. he texted his fiancée saying he was back but then noticed [name_m]Hank[/name_m] still canoodling with a biker woman who was not [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] and knew he could use this as more proof that [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] could use against him to increase the divorce settlement. He confronted him and told him what he was doing was wrong and kept thinking about his own mother abandoning him and leaving his father, before doing this again to [name_m]Tony[/name_m] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f], but stormed off before his feelings could ruin his composure. [name_m]Hank[/name_m] knew that [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] would tell people and he was going to try to find her and tell her when he noticed an art fair with featured pictures painted by his mother. He asked the other people at the fair if she was there and they said she was sitting at a booth selling art. He decided to approach as calmly as he could but fears his emotions would break his composure, much like they almost did for his confrontation with [name_m]Hank[/name_m]. He wanted to simply ask her how her family was but blurted out, “Who’s your family?” which this time was not an English mistranslation but rather his own slip of the tongue. She said she didn’t have one and he glared at her in disbelief. Deep down, even if she didn’t recognise him, she did figure he must have known in some way and noticed his accent sounded more Hungarian than British and looked to be the same age as a person born in 1996 would look. She felt like a complete stranger wouldn’t feel so suspicious of her. He realised she was getting the message of what she had done. While he felt calling her out in front of many people at the art show would be satisfying for all the pain she’s caused him, he didn’t do that and instead turned back and walked away from her. She said, “Okay sir, you may go. Goodbye,” and he said to her, “Don’t call me ‘sir’, call me by my name. My name’s [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m]. You know this,” before leaving. After he left the art show, he realised he still needed to tell [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] about the extra cheating evidence and meet back up with his fiancée. However, he heard the footsteps of someone eerily following him. He didn’t look back and kept running but everywhere he went, he was still being followed. He found a wooded area and ran towards it, planning on a place to hide from whoever was stalking him. This would be the last time anyone would see him. After 24 hours, he was reported missing by his fiancee who noticed he didn’t ever come back to her. Her uncle kept insisting to her that he was right and he wasn’t ever in the relationship for love and he truly abandoned her. She didn’t believe her uncle and knew he wouldn’t ever abandon everyone and secretly thought maybe her uncle was responsible for the disappearance. Some friends of the couple also believed it was foul play and either [name_m]Hank[/name_m] or Laszlo’s estranged mother could have been involved. It was also believed that the suspicious person following him could not have been one of them but may be tied to any one of those people. However a few believed he simply did get lost in the wooded area and was not kidnapped or murdered and that none of them would actually do that to him. Witnesses who saw the mysterious person following [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] said they saw that person running into the forest but none could confirm if the follower found him. Two of Cynthia’s children constantly debate each other over whether the disappearance was criminal or not and whether or not [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] is still alive. After a month, someone saw an alive but disheveled sickly man miles away from the forest and nursed him back to health, but he was not [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m], although he was another missing person in the area who was thankfully found after people were believing he would never be found alive. A year and a half has passed since his disappearance - he is still missing.

[name_f]Niamh[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] Foyer (25) is Lazslo’s fiancée from the time of his disappearance. A soft spoken, patient person, the vanishing of the man she loved so deeply still weighs heavily on Niamh’s mind - worsened by the words of her uncle shortly before those fateful events transpired. A professionally trained dancer, [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] spent most of her early twenties travelling on cruise ships or attending competitions primarily in [name_f]France[/name_f] and [name_u]Brazil[/name_u], perfecting her techniques and meeting a large array of people - slowly coming out of her shell in the process. As the only grandchild on the paternal side of her family - her uncle, who opposed Lazslo so vehemently, opted against having children themselves - she was smothered a fair bit growing up, especially by her dad who considered her fragile, thanks to [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] being born prematurely and needing some medical support for the first few weeks of her life.

Having met a huge range of people, not all of whom spoke [name_f]English[/name_f] confidently - helped slightly by [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] being fluent in Spanish and proficient enough in [name_u]French[/name_u] - meant she was never impatient with Lazslo while teaching him, and tried her best to turn him away from chastising himself for not picking things up immediately. This was also helped by her choosing to become a dance teacher after returning home for the final time, primarily working with 8-12 year olds with interest in competing - her specialist areas being ballet, jazz and lyrical. It was her boss whose bachelorette party she met Lazslo at actually: a woman now in her early thirties who also worked on the cruise ships who acted as an older sister figure to [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] when she was first adjusting to being away from home (and her doting parents).

Enduring Lazslo’s vanishing took it’s toll on the young woman more than she likes to admit to anyone, even her family. It caused more friction between [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] and her uncle - whose words hurt her so gravely after her fiancée truly did disappear under awful circumstances - and they don’t have much contact now at her insistence, associating too much of an omen with his words. The only thing that stopped [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] from becoming completely listless in the wake of this (as she unfortunately did experience serious depression, having to take medical leave from work on the grounds of how devastated she was) turned out to be her unplanned pregnancy with Lazslo’s child. Her daughter proved to be the only source of hope for her in the immediate months after and she slowly regained some of her old self once she was born, finding strength through her daughter who she vowed to protect and care for.

Still, [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] can’t stop herself constantly checking for case updates and has even considered reaching out to [name_f]Grace[/name_f] more recently to try and peace something together for what Lazslo had hoped. Her only fear is what if this only makes things worse for everyone, including her child…

[name_f]Eniko[/name_f] ’ [name_u]Niko[/name_u] ’ [name_f]Catrin[/name_f] Zalan-Foyer (1) is [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] and Lazslo’s daughter. Raised primarily by her mother, Niko’s enjoyed a happy life given the circumstances she was born into, protected from the spells of depression and anxiety [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] goes through by the woman herself. Although she lacks any biological aunts and uncles, Niamh’s maternal cousins and closest friends take on these roles in a surrogate manner for little [name_u]Niko[/name_u], who absolutely loves meeting new people and playing games with them: usually some form of shops or cooking, as the toys she received for her 1st birthday have proved captivating for her. [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] has plans to ensure [name_u]Niko[/name_u] can connect with her Hungarian culture once she’s a little older - having had lots of vidchats, phonecalls and cards sent from Lazslo’s father, who’s now planning on visiting her in person - but for now is emphasising the importance of letting the little girl enjoy the simple joys life has to offer, given what information awaits her.

Grant Oliver Durham (18) is one of Niko’s former babysitters and is a current cruise ship performer, learning about the job from Niamh. He is one of Cynthia’s three sons and one of her four siblings, being third-oldest. Some people think he’s youngest but he has a younger brother. He and Niamh used to be closer but he has drifted apart due to cruising and told her he couldn’t babysit Niko. Niamh understands, knowing Grant is away too much while on cruise ships. What Niamh doesn’t know is he actually left because he knew Niamh would be devastated if she found out Grant’s controversial views about Laszlo’s disappearance. He believes Laszlo is dead although he has not been marked as “presumed dead” and debates his younger brother who thinks Laszlo could still be alive considering another missing man was found alive when no one believed he could survive. While Grant no longer babysits Niko, his aforementioned older brother still does.

Grant is somewhat immature and a bit of a flirt and likes to impress girls his age when doing performances and Cynthia has tried to get him to stop even though he means no harm. That is because Cynthia was cheated on by Hank and she fears Grant will grow up to be a cheater when he wasn’t raised to. Deep down, Cynthia knows she is worrying too much and Grant feels he is too young to marry and wouldn’t do this to his eventual wife. Truthfully Grant doesn’t like Hank but thinks Hank didn’t do anything to make Laszlo disappear nor did he hire anyone to stalk him. Some people have argued in support or against his stance but truthfully none of them really know so they don’t have many facts to argue with. Despite coming off as a man with a polarising outlook, he is still close with Jules and Tony and supports Tony and Cynthia going on a date.

[name_f]Giovanetta[/name_f] “Vanni” [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] [name_m]Colombo[/name_m] (19) works on the boat alongside [name_m]Grant[/name_m] at the cruise’s gift shop. It is no surprise that selling “I  BIG BOATS AND I CAN NOT LIE” t-shirts and fake shark tooth necklaces is not her favorite job in the world, but she enjoys the ocean air and the opportunity to travel.

[name_u]Vanni[/name_u] grew up in [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_m]Rock[/name_m], Arkansas and had never seen the ocean irl before her job on the ship, but always dreamed of doing so. Growing up she used to beg her parents for a trip to the Gulf during summer & winter breaks, but they always went to visit her Aunt & her quadruplets at their cabin in [name_u]Colorado[/name_u]. Don’t get her wrong, [name_u]Vanni[/name_u] enjoyed the views & taking long hikes with the family dog, but she always wanted a …quieter vacation and to watch the dolphins play. The closest [name_u]Vanni[/name_u] had ever gotten was when her parents allowed her to try out for her high school swim team. They went on to win a state championship that year.

[name_u]Vanni[/name_u] lives a rather peaceful life on the boat, excited that she finally made her biggest dream happen all . on . her . own! But does find herself feeling a bit lonely from time to time. She didn’t keep in touch with any of her friends on the swim team and now that she is not under their roof her parents seem to have forgotten about her. They were always crazy busy with work and only ever found time for her the once or twice a year they traveled to CO. [name_m]Grant[/name_m] had always been very kind to her though and she did consider him a good friend, but she has found herself distancing from him since despite her best efforts she can not seem to get out of the friend zone. [name_f]Giovanetta[/name_f] developed a crush for [name_m]Grant[/name_m] their first day on the boat and it has only grown as time went on. She is thirsting for his attention.

[name_m]Grant[/name_m] had opened up to her briefly about [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] and his theories on what happened to him, but she always tried to stay out of it because , frankly , it caused her tons of anxiety. She’ll never understand everyone’s infatuation with true crime.

Her bio was already awesome enough but thank you for bringing this slogan into my life haha.

[Hank] [name_m]Kenton[/name_m] [name_m]Durham[/name_m] [name_m]Jr[/name_m]. (23) is a fellow gift shop employee on the boat and one of Grant’s brothers. He is the son of [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] and [name_m]Hank[/name_m], the latter of whom he was named after, but he does not support his father cheating on his mother and causing the divorce so he goes by his middle name. He decided to get himself the job on the cruise ship to escape the drama of his parents. He is not the brother whom [name_m]Grant[/name_m] debates against over [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] Zalan’s disappearance and wants to escape that too and was into theories when in first happened but has since been anti-conspiracy theory and refuses to talk about anything that doesn’t have confirmed facts. [name_m]Kenton[/name_m] likes having his brother perform on the cruise ship but is not a performer himself but is well-liked at the gift shop. He secretly thinks [name_m]Grant[/name_m] mainly got hired because they are brothers but likes that [name_m]Grant[/name_m] is doing awesome at expressing himself in performances.

[name_m]Kenton[/name_m] and [name_u]Vanni[/name_u] are good co-workers and they talk about their families a lot, with [name_m]Kenton[/name_m] more interested to talk about his co-workers’ and friends’ families more because he hates talking about his father’s drama and having to explain he is named after him. [name_u]Vanni[/name_u] understands but still likes to talk to [name_m]Kenton[/name_m] about his family, particularly [name_m]Grant[/name_m]. [name_m]Kenton[/name_m] knows [name_u]Vanni[/name_u] likes [name_m]Grant[/name_m] but is keeping it a secret from his brother while trying to get them closer together. Unfortunately for some time, [name_m]Grant[/name_m] misunderstood and falsely believed [name_m]Kenton[/name_m] was trying to date [name_u]Vanni[/name_u] but that mishap has gone to rest since [name_m]Kenton[/name_m] has found a new girlfriend, a lifeguard on the ship. [name_m]Kenton[/name_m] enjoys having a new girlfriend and he and [name_m]Grant[/name_m] have lots of fun at their jobs but [name_m]Kenton[/name_m] has successfully convinced [name_m]Grant[/name_m] that the United States and Nebraska are cool and he should meet Vanni’s family sometime and hopes [name_m]Grant[/name_m] will enjoy it there sometime. [name_m]Kenton[/name_m] is level-headed and tries to do what he can to make sure [name_m]Grant[/name_m] doesn’t miss out on a great potential relationship, just like he didn’t miss out on his girlfriend.

Frida Emery Larson (22) is Kenton’s girlfriend & best friend.

Frida grew up in a small apartment complex and was basically dubbed the building’s babysitter, so she decided to get her cpr & lifeguard certification (due to the small pool at the complex) to ease the parents’ minds. Frida would use her babysitting money to buy new art supplies and magazines. She has been working on her art since Elementary school and is actually quite good, which is fitting due to her first name :). She often enjoyed her time with the kids and on occasion she would get out her old or broken art supplies and teach them how to draw ladybugs, butterflies, & sunny garden scenes.

After a fire at the apartment complex (with minimal injuries, thank goodness) she decided to turn her grief into a fresh start and applied for the lifeguard position on the cruise ship. When she first met Kenton she wasn’t exactly smitten, but after time out at sea she warmed up to him & is very thankful to have him in her life.

Frida remembers their first date like it happened only yesterday. After a long shift at the gift shop & a lousy day of cleaning toddler vomit out of the pool her and Kenton ran off to the ship’s restaurants and ordered loads of shrimp and multiple house salads. When dinner was through they walked out on the deck and looked up at the stars as they listened to the calm waves of the ocean & ended the night with a big ‘ole kiss. Kenton & Frida now have picnics under the stars once a week along with biweekly painting dates which can get a bit messy if the boat hits rocky waters, but makes for a fun(ny) night.

[name_u]Ashby[/name_u] [name_u]Blake[/name_u] [name_u]Swan[/name_u] (23) is a server at the restaurant [name_f]Frida[/name_f] and [name_m]Kenton[/name_m] went to on their first date. [name_u]Ashby[/name_u] is from [name_f]Pretoria[/name_f], [name_u]South[/name_u] [name_f]Africa[/name_f] and likes working with people of other countries and backgrounds. They are non-binary and pansexual and isn’t currently dating anyone but had tried to ask out someone they liked back in their hometown who rejected them and is waiting before trying to fall in love with someone new. They do get easily flustered and embarrassed but doesn’t show it and can be somewhat perfectionist seeing that they have to get orders right and remember who from which tables ordered which items, which they feel is not a task everyone can do day by day and hates it when people are rude to wait staff. They get along well with [name_f]Frida[/name_f] because both can relate to having tedious and stressful jobs on the cruise and don’t get enough credit for it. [name_u]Ashby[/name_u] has bought some of Frida’s artwork and loves to decorate with her artwork. [name_f]Frida[/name_f] has told [name_u]Ashby[/name_u] that they don’t have to buy art from her because it’s not a business but [name_u]Ashby[/name_u] loves Frida’s art talent and supports people buying directly from artists. [name_u]Ashby[/name_u] works alongside other employees who are also independent creators and they are a supporter of these people as well.

[name_f]Maisy[/name_f] [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_m]Blanchard[/name_m] (22) is a fellow server alongside [name_u]Ashby[/name_u] who decided to take this job to get away from the awkwardness associated with their hometown. Coming from a small community in [name_u]Texas[/name_u], [name_f]Maisy[/name_f] experienced a lot of pressure from numerous parties to transition her relationship with her boyfriend to an engagement as she was unable to attend college due to the financial strain it’d place upon her mom (a single parent), and people attempting to police her life caused her to want a break from it all. She and her boyfriend have remained together in spite of the long distance placed between them, but [name_f]Maisy[/name_f] has found herself confiding in [name_u]Ashby[/name_u] about her doubts this will last forever, as she sometimes gets the impression he wanted to become her fiancé and was upset [name_f]Maisy[/name_f] staunchly rejected other people’s suggestions. Sometimes she does feel a little guilty about talking to [name_u]Ashby[/name_u] about all this given they faced rejection whereas she’s in a committed relationship, but they’re the only person she’s become close to so far while working on the ship, feeling a little out of her comfort zone still.

Coming from a community where everyone knows each others business, [name_f]Maisy[/name_f] wants to avoid being labelled an atypical country bumpkin or seen as incredibly naive, so she’s cautious in how she comes across to others, seeming very aloof. She rings her mom at least three times a week to check in and has a Polaroid camera allowing her to document the locations and people she encounters - something she saved up for prior to setting off. [name_f]Maisy[/name_f] admits she doesn’t quite know what she wants to pursue following her job on the ship, but doesn’t tell anyone about her doubts and uncertainties, as she finds them stressful enough when kept close to her chest. At one point [name_f]Maisy[/name_f] considered teaching but now thinks she gravitated towards it given other people recommended it, not due to any innate interest. Midwifery is something she’s been taking an increasing interest though, being credited as having excellent people skills and medicine has always intrigued her, even if she finds it quite intimidating.

Mayandra “Maya” Amy Kestrel (39) is Maisy and Ashby’s boss. She is somewhat untraditional with her tattoo but covers it up with her clothing when working. However she will never get rid of the tattoo and believes in freedom of expression. Maisy gets along with her a lot because Maya would never stereotype her and believes Maisy is an a”Maisy”ng employee, as she likes to say in her group chats. That is another untraditional thing she does, group chatting with her employees about work or cruise events simply how their day was and just to chat.

However she can be strict about chatting and bans people from talking about the following topics mainly because they are bad, cause controversy, or make her uncomfortable. However some are just things she’s tired of people talking about non-stop or just petty things she dislikes. She is serious about this and talking about any banned topics once is a warning, second offence is a day-long ban from chat, third offence is a week-long ban from chat, and fourth offence is a permanent chat ban and possibly fired depending on the severity of the topics discussed (talking about Frozen won’t get an employee fired but chemical warfare would). Everyone has followed these rules no matter how many items are on the Banned Topics and no one has been fired which is good because if you get fired, your name actually gets on the Banned Topics List.

  33. Flat-Earthers
  34. That one tall happy-go-lucky ship nurse who always orders the Caesar salad for his side dish every time

People have wondered about the last one on the list and why that’s a banned topic considering Maya enjoys seeing him come into the restaurant. Especially Maisy who is interested in nursing and being a midwife. However they don’t want to risk bringing up a banned topic so they never ask. Maya knows Maisy is interested in nursing and once after work Maisy asked “Sorry if you don’t want us talking about this and I won’t bring it up in chat but you haven’t told us why you banned #34” feeling bad but hoping Maya would understand and figured calling it by its number and not its topic would make it less taboo.

Maya has privately confessed to Maisy that the ship nurse was a nurse in the medical deck of the cruise ship that she always found attractive but didn’t know his name and didn’t want the other employees to talk about him not because she hated him or felt afraid but more so because she liked him and was nervous to tell him. Some other employees were surprised he was on the Banned Topics and wondered if they shouldn’t serve him anymore but she always said “No no! Please keep serving him!” and explained to her employees that she wanted them to keep serving him and being nice to him but just not mention him in chat. Some were getting the idea while some were very confused but they all agreed, he’s a banned topic and banned topics don’t get mentioned in chat.

tw: miscarriage

[name_m]Bruno[/name_m] [name_m]Derek[/name_m] Chiwaya (34) is the nurse Maya’s found herself crushing on. In certain ways, [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] is her polar opposite: he’s very level-headed, easygoing and gets along with pretty much everyone he talks to. Nursing wasn’t always Bruno’s calling: he modelled pretty steadily in his early twenties and still has photographer friends who use him for portfolio work, something he jokes feeds his vanity. Although it isn’t overbearing, [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] does take pride in his appearance and takes care in always being presentable: not just for himself, but as he knows people find a neat, tidy nurse more comforting to receive treatment from. Recently, [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] has been teaching a junior first aid administrator to act as a secondary medical technician, having decided to help out the young man because he’s hoping on becoming an EMT and Bruno’s own confidence applying to medical school was with the encouragement of his godbrother, an acclaimed trauma surgeon whom he’s always looked up to and admired.

His decision to work on the cruise wasn’t the easiest to make but felt necessary for a much needed fresh start. [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] and his fiancé broke off their engagement due to a great distance developing between them - beginning when his now ex-fiancé miscarried their second child.
The trauma of this loss caused serious depression for her, something she felt she couldn’t overcome while remaining with [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] due to all the memories they shared of excitement about becoming parents again; and while her decision was very painful for him - especially thanks to her reasoning - he understood why she needed space. What caused the rift to somewhat heal between them was she allowed [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] primary custody of their firstborn, realising she was too unwell to be the sole caregiver, and that their daughter needed a parent who felt fully emotionally engaged.

Bruno’s daughter actually accompanied him on his post, although many people haven’t realised they’re related due to her spending most of her time at the kid’s club during the day while her dad’s working - so staff unfamiliar with her assume she’s the daughter of some cruise attendees. She’s just turned five and is the absolute centre of his world, being doted upon and he affectionately calls her ‘Doc’ in reference to how medicine’s already an interest of her’s in spite of her youth. Fun is a priority of Bruno’s when it comes to parenting, playing lots of imaginary games with her and they frequently go swimming when he’s got spare time, having a complex mermaid world they’ve thought out together. A little ironically, Maya’s strict reputation intimidates Bruno’s daughter a little - as she worries the woman might think their games undermine her dad’s professionalism, but he’s much more unphased by these matters and figures she’s a sweet enough person given that her staff haven’t completely revolted against her.

Maturity warning for the aforementioned miscarriage.

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] “ [name_u]Josie[/name_u] ” [name_f]Mariela[/name_f] Chiwaya (5) is Bruno’s 5-year-old daughter. She loves Frozen and thinks it’s weird that “Mrs. [name_f]Maya[/name_f] from the cruise restaurant food place” would ban that as a topic (after she overheard some employees talking about how [name_f]Maya[/name_f] doesn’t allow them to talk about certain stuff and she didn’t understand the other more reasonable Banned Topics they mentioned but understood Frozen) but doesn’t know the other Banned Topics and is unaware her dad is one of them. [name_u]Josie[/name_u] doesn’t know much about [name_f]Maya[/name_f] and finds her strict but doesn’t know [name_f]Maya[/name_f] cares about her employees deeply and doesn’t know [name_f]Maya[/name_f] is tattooed due to her work uniform covering it. She is somewhat aware of things that shouldn’t be talked about but her kids club only has a small list of unacceptable things to talk about and they’re all things small children would be guilty of talking about like “bathroom words“. [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is best friends with another girl in the kids club who is actually the daughter of a kids club staff member. She invites the other girl to play mermaids with her a lot with her and her dad. They’ve even gotten the staff member parent to join in while they were on break from staffing the kids club.

She loves talking about mermaids and swimming with her dad, using the pools as their underwater mermaid kingdom. She misses her mom but understands she needs serious time to cope and recollect herself. She doesn’t quite understand the miscarriage and thought she would be a big sister but both her parents have explained it best by saying “We were expecting. But sometimes the result is not a baby. Sometimes it’s an angel. That’s why pregnant women say they’re expecting, they’re expecting it to be a baby but in your sibling’s case, it was an angel,” although the loss still weighs heavily on her mother’s mind with her mother being so upset and hopes the best for her mother. She loves her father dearly and feels very privileged to be his daughter. She used to miss him very badly when she first attended kids club but is now super good friends with the other kids there.

[name_f]Temperance[/name_f] “Perry” [name_f]Hydra[/name_f] Umpleby (5) is Josie’s (aforementioned) best friend. Her Mom works on the boat in child’s care, but to [name_u]Perry[/name_u] her mom just watches her play with her friends all day. She loves playing with [name_u]Josie[/name_u] especially & likes when they play hopscotch or mermaids in the pool. When she’s in the water she has blue hair and a looooong yellow tale and goes by the name Kokomo after a song she hears her mommy sing.

Back home (her home before the boat) she lives in a tall blue house right next door to her three cousins and two uncles. Her dad is an airplane pilot and doesn’t spend much time there either or on the boat, but visits them on land when the boat stops sometimes and buys her all the ice cream she can eat. Sometimes she misses her family, her big princess bed, & her cousin’s dog, Strongman, but then she thinks that if she & her mom left the boat she may never see [name_u]Josie[/name_u] again and that makes her very sad, so she told her mom they have to stay on the boat forever & just have her cousins bring her princess bed & the pup on to the ship & move there too.

[name_u]Perry[/name_u] says when she grows up she wants to be a detective, inspired by her love of Scooby Doo movies & ISpy books along with her mommy’s cop shows that she isn’t supposed to watch, but sometimes sees when she sneaks out of bed. Her mom encourages her, but reminds her it can be a dangerous job, but [name_u]Perry[/name_u] doesn’t care because she is fearless. “I’m not even afraid of the dark!” she would say.

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Zoë[/name_f] [name_u]Blake[/name_u] (38) is Perry’s mother and one of the main overseers of children’s care on the ship. The decision to leave behind her family and main support system was a difficult one for [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] who’s loved being so close to her brother and his family, but she felt she was going stir crazy waiting around for her husband to return and working a very quiet job at a local antique shop. Although she trained as a paramedic, [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] opted against continuing in this field following the birth of [name_u]Perry[/name_u], as she honestly found it too distressing to continue in this line of work after giving birth and didn’t want the after effects of her job to impact on her daughter. It sometimes upsets her, as she felt her calling in life was to care for others, but after taking on her current job Eliza’s found that sense meaning coming back and she loves working in childcare - having a strong affinity for looking after other people.

Her decision to keep her maiden name after marriage was one [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] made in the memory of her late mother, who did the same thing and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] actually took on her surname after being born, in accordance with an agreement her parents made while engaged. Eliza’s husband has agreed that if they have a second child they’ll take on the [name_u]Blake[/name_u] surname but she’s actually unsure this will happen, mostly thanks to their schedules being at odds and her not wanting to have any children over the age of forty thanks to the medical risks that can potentially arise. This may be resolved soon as Perry’s dad recently met up with them when the ship docked and in the weeks since, [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] has started showing signs of pregnancy, although she’s admittedly scared to take a test in case she’s about to have her hopes dashed. More than anything she’d love to become a mom for a second time and provide [name_u]Perry[/name_u] with a sibling, as while her daughter’s extremely talented at making friends, she knows things may be easier for her if she gains a constant companion who can fully understand what her life’s like.

Throughout the journey’s they’ve undertaken, [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] has maintained contact with her older brother and knows [name_u]Perry[/name_u] loves having video chats with her cousins. Her daughter means the absolute world to her and she wants nothing more than to see her at her happiest, even if the prospect of [name_u]Perry[/name_u] getting involved in a risky line of work worries [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] more than she’d ever admit to her child.
