Chord Marius Haddon (17) is Ellieâs boyfriend and a member of her and Rowanâs group. He is the second-youngest of his family, ahead of only his 15-year-old sister Evie. The story of Clemmaâs mother scares Chord, especially given his own sister Hopeâs medical history, although Chord himself has never had surgery. He doesnât have huge future plans like Rowanâs boyfriend who is planning on both college and medical school. In fact, heâs planning to get a job right after high school graduation. He even has an after-school part-time job already at a local Mexican restaurant but heâs wanting something bigger full-time when he becomes an adult. His competitive streak was from how his family raised him. He doesnât have beef with Rowan, in fact they are friends. He jokingly tried to run against the class president for his position but surprisingly won, but he ran the school smoothly. He is happy but still, Rowan is queen.
Heâs cooled off and feels better about the school now. Bullying has significantly reduced, which makes Chord happy given his girlfriend Ellie feels safer as a bisexual girl in school. Chord and the Rowan laugh off most of the tension now, seeing Chord feels the Rowan is a lot like his siblings. He likes Rowanâs boyfriend wanting to pursue a medical career and was initially paranoid of Hopeâs boyfriend already âbeing a successful surgeonâ. He was going to stage an interrogation and bring Evie along, but the two stopped dead in their tracks when they learned Hopeâs boyfriend RaphaĂ«l is just aspiring to be a surgeon. Chord is chill now, considering he self-proclaims as an âadult-in-trainingâ and considers Hope and RaphaĂ«l an older version of Rowan and her boyfriend. Chord feels heâs at a great place in his friend group and finds Ellie the only girl heâs ever considered a true girlfriend. Heâs danced with a girl at a school dance before at 13, but there wasnât really love in retrospect, it was just a 2-week-long infatuation. Chordâs only âinfatuationâ now as he jokes is making homemade fudge, which he loves to share with the friends. He and Ellie love going out on dates and enjoy double dating with Rowan and her boyfriend. Chord and Ellie do have serious sides to them and he tells her that no matter how hard dealing with her parents and younger siblings are to her, he will always be there for support and be her rock.
