cw: mental health

Eiko Haneen Matsuura (26) is the bassist, saxophonist, and backing vocalist of Frenemy. However, she is considered the face and main lyricist of the band and is the most popular amongst the fanbase. Considered by the fans as the “tortured genius,” Eiko was born in Sakai, Japan to a poor family of musicians, but grew up surrounded by music and learned multiple instruments at an extremely early age, becoming a musical child prodigy. Due to this prodigy, she was educated under a full scholarship at a prestigious boarding school in Switzerland, where she not only learned multiple languages (including English, German, French, and Italian), but honed her skills for music. She moved to Australia at the age of nineteen, where she met Riley and Sereia (she also lives with Sereia in a small apartment). She is now considered one of the best bassists and lyricists performing today by her fans, but being stuck under the strange leadership of Riley, she hasn’t been as successful as her fans have hoped Frenemy would be. Recently, she was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, and has become incredibly open with her fans about her mental health (both through her music and interviews). She has also recently publicly come out as bisexual, of which her fans were supportive. However, she has become increasingly disgruntled and creatively stifled under Frenemy. Due to this, she has recently signed with a major indie label (who is hoping to turn her into the next Rina Sawayama, Phoebe Bridgers, or Mitski) as a solo artist. When she told her bandmates about this, Sereia was supportive, whereas Riley was not, which has put a serious strain on their friendship.
