One of my favorite endings for girls’ names is “ette/etta”, and there are plenty of comparatively commonplace ones that I like, such as [name_f]Isabetta[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f], but I’d love to open the floor for more creative options too.
What are some of your favorite, less common “ette/etta” names?
I like Annegret, [name_f]Odette[/name_f], [name_f]Olivette[/name_f], and [name_f]Giulietta[/name_f]. My grandma’s name is [name_f]Antoinette[/name_f], but she’s actually Italian and I like the version [name_f]Antonietta[/name_f].
You have a name there spelled [name_f]Guilietta[/name_f]. If you are using the Italian spelling for [name_f]Julietta[/name_f], you have mispelled it. As spelled, it would be pronounce GOO-lietta. In Italian, a G followed by an A, O or U is a hard G sound (as in [name_m]Galileo[/name_m], Gonzaga & [name_f]Gucci[/name_f]). When followed by an E or I, it’s a soft G sound (as in Gentile or [name_f]Gisella[/name_f]). To make a soft G sound followed by an A, O or U sound, an I is inserted to soften it…as in [name_m]Giancarlo[/name_m], [name_f]Giovanna[/name_f], and the correct spelling for [name_f]Giulietta[/name_f].
