Here is a real puzzle! There are so many awesome creative minds here, so I’m sure we can figure something out!
We had trouble determining gender at the last ultrasound, but we found two gender neutral-ish names we like anyways. One we are set with but the other, [name_u]Indigo[/name_u], is stumping me as far as middle names for either boy or girl. We are leaning towards this one.
We have the following criteria:
two syllables or more, but not a deal breaker (last name is one syllable)
No hard C sound (again, last name. This one’s a deal breaker)
ideally would combine with [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] in some way to make a nickname. It’s not a deal breaker but it’s a tradition I’d like to keep. [name_u]Shannon[/name_u] [name_u]Rene[/name_u], a cousin, is [name_u]Shae[/name_u] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is Charlou. Any syllable(s) from the first name can be combined with any syllable(s) from the middle.
For a girl, I was thinking a name with -ira in it so she could be [name_f]Indira[/name_f] if she wanted, but I haven’t found the right name. I’m open to other suggestions. For the boy, I’m stumped!
Have you considered just using [name_f]Indie[/name_f] as a nickname? Im a big fan of the name [name_u]Indigo[/name_u], its cute for boys and girls!
Other Ideas:
Girls:
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]India[/name_f]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Elira[/name_f] [name_f]Indira[/name_f]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Elle[/name_f] Inelle or Goelle (like [name_f]Janelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Joelle[/name_f] sort of)
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]May[/name_f] Inday or possible even just [name_u]Day[/name_u]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Dessa[/name_f] Godess (Im kind of proud I came up with that just now tbh)
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Darla[/name_f] Indarla
Boys:
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] Goden or maybe [name_m]Gordan[/name_m]??
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] [name_m]Gomer[/name_m]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_m]Gowin[/name_m] or Inder
Names without the combined nickname possibility (that I can think of)
We do already call the little peanut [name_f]Indie[/name_f] sometimes to try out the name, and one of the reasons I like [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] is that nickname. But it’s just a tradition we like to keep if possible. My son is [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m] [name_u]Alden[/name_u] and we came up with [name_m]Kal[/name_m], even though the nicknames for [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m] are awesome and the ones we actually use ([name_u]Niko[/name_u], [name_u]Kai[/name_u]).
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] is a bit different because I could see my kid hating us for it if they are a serious, business type personality so we are taking the middle name tradition a little more seriously. A shift from ‘[name_u]Indigo[/name_u]’ to Indessa is more feminine and easier than just switching to the middle name (and you should be proud of that one! I like [name_f]Goddess[/name_f] and I think Indessa would work too! [name_u]Avery[/name_u] was on my list as well for middle name potential, as well as [name_u]Sage[/name_u])
But thanks, it’s this kind of creativity that gets the wheels turning and gives me ideas and combos I’ve never considered. And it spawned a new one!
I agree with mommyofsage; I love [name_f]Indie[/name_f] as a nickname on its own. I’ve included middle names that
keep with your nickname tradition, as well as bonus names that sound nice with [name_u]Indigo[/name_u].
Girls:
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u], or any other middle name with “[name_u]Lynn[/name_u]” in it (Indielynn)
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] (Indelah)
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] (Indida is really cute, but a little bit of a mouthful)
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f] (Indiro, Indirie, [name_f]Indie[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f])
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] (Indiren)
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Brianne[/name_f]
Boys:
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_m]Winston[/name_m] (Indiwin, Indwin)
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] (Indiro)
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Lennon[/name_u]- can also work for a girl
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]Brennan[/name_u]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_u]River[/name_u]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] is one of the ONLY names which I truly love for both Girls and Boys!!! [name_f]Indira[/name_f] would be a GORGEOUS nickname for a Girl and the two combos I love are:
Yes, this one is definitely a tough one!!! But I appreciate all the help! I absolutely love the creativity!
I just wanted to share a few observations from my end, on how this his helping us:
The best part is that the combination names you all are coming up with; I’d never think of some of these in a million years: [name_m]Gowin[/name_m], Indiro, [name_f]Diva[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f], Indida!!! Definitely the product of very creative minds!
*Some names you guys came up with, I think we can use as nicknames anyways, no matter the middle name (GoGo, Digger orDiggy!!! [name_m]How[/name_m] stinkin’ cute!)
The boy names are going to be the hardest part, I think. There are a ton of really great girl name combinations and suggestions. We just scheduled another ultrasound for [name_f]Monday[/name_f], so maybe that will help narrow it down a bit. Although I wouldn’t put my money on it, this peanut has been stubborn on a number of occasions! Wonder if the name will reflect that? I think we are more worried about the boy because, despite it being so gender-flexible, I can see a boy having a harder time with this if he becomes a conservative/shy type.
Hubby is a little pickier than I am, but when we look at some of the combos you have created, we can think of other middle names.
We are seeing some names on this thread that we already like ([name_m]Solomon[/name_m], [name_m]Alistair[/name_m], and too many girls names to list) with combinations we had never thought of. We also see different ways to honor our loved ones: My grandfather’s name is [name_m]Alan[/name_m] and my grandmother’s name is [name_f]Nannette[/name_f], so having ‘Alin’ or ‘Indette’ ‘[name_f]Idette[/name_f]’ (some other -ette) seems really neat.
Thank goodness we still have a few months to decide. But this is helping loads!!!
Oh, and I also love the double names- [name_f]Indie[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] (Or even [name_f]Indie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]), [name_f]Indie[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]. I never thought of that but I think its super cute! I even think you could get [name_f]Indira[/name_f] from [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f]. I love ‘[name_f]Rose[/name_f]’ as a middle name, but alone it clashed with the one-syllable last name pretty badly.
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] is such an interesting name- I think its very masculine sounding (ending in a hard sounding ‘go’) but it pairs so well with feminine middle names. I really can see it as a boy or a girl.
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u] [name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f] nn [name_f]Indie[/name_f] is lovely! I actually like the nickname Inder for a boy. So middle name ending in -er?
