Creative Spellings

Sorry if this topic has been brought up recently. If it was, I missed it.

What’s the most creative spelling to a common name that you’ve heard?

Ones I’ve heard in the last few years:
[name]Krystyna[/name] (mom is Aundi)
Broady (not sure how this is supposed to be pronounced, I’m guessing like [name]Brody[/name])
[name]Haidyn[/name]
Glori
[name]Austyn[/name] (for a girl)
[name]Tait[/name] (also for a girl)
[name]Kristyn[/name]
[name]Krysten[/name]
[name]Saraha[/name] (pronounced like [name]Sarah[/name])

I was wondering everyone else’s thoughts. And it’s not just the ‘change the i to a y’. It’s adding silent letters that aren’t usually there, changing ‘y’ to ‘i’, changing the letter order but not the pronunciation, etc. My take on it is that it’s not a unique name just because you spell it in an uncommon way. [name]Christina[/name]/[name]Kristina[/name]/[name]Krystina[/name]/[name]Krystyna[/name]/etc. are all pronounced the same. If you want a truly unique name, why not use a name not used as often rather than a unique spelling for a common one. I think it makes it worse for those do have a normal spelling in the end, too. Rather than people guessing 1 of 2 or 3 spellings, they’re now trying to guess 1 of who knows how many they have going through their head!

I mean no disrespect if you do like creative spellings. So please don’t take offense. I’m just trying to understand the reasoning behind it a bit more. Especially hearing so many lately!

Have a great day, Berries!

[name]Sarah[/name]

There was this woman (well, I’m guessing it was a woman, lol) who came on the other naming forum I’m a member of, and she claimed her two daughters were Allahsyn Mahreigh ([name]Allison[/name] [name]Marie[/name]) and Kahlyn Alekzandrah ([name]Colin[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name]). She was found out to be a troll, but those are by far the worst, trendiest names I’ve heard! She claimed she was having twin girls, too, and this was her list. tear

Elltyn Klahrhys ([name]Elton[/name] [name]Clarisse[/name])
Aubryn Rehnae (Aubryn [name]Renee[/name])
Dareyn Ohlivea ([name]Darren[/name] [name]Olivia[/name], I think?)
Brightyn Wihloh ([name]Brighton[/name] [name]Willow[/name])
Aedyn [name]Bayleigh[/name] ([name]Aidan[/name] [name]Bailey[/name])
Teagyn Dehlielah ([name]Teagan[/name] [name]Delilah[/name])

Individually, she liked Aubryn, Starlyn, Kairyn ([name]Karen[/name]), Schuylyn/Skyelyn ([name]Sky[/name]-lin), Brightyn, Aedyn, Jaedyn, Haedyn, Dareyn, Elltyn, Autyn (I have no clue what this is supposed to be! [name]Autumn[/name]?), and Teagyn.

WHY?! Seriously, I don’t know why anyone would be able to avoid eyeball-overload with spellings like that.

Luckily, I don’t really know people with names spelled that awfully in real life, but one day at work (which I have to take down people’s names and such), I came across more-than-expected/normal trendy spellings, and these were adults! They were [name]Zackery[/name], Kitrena ([name]Katrina[/name]/[name]Catriona[/name]), [name]Allysa[/name] ([name]Alyssa[/name]), Ryke (said [name]Rick[/name]! I don’t understand how this is [name]Rick[/name]…).

About the worst ones I know in real life are a few cousins with little girls–[name]Alaina[/name] and [name]Lyla[/name]–which aren’t bad by any means.

I know a:

[name]Cristen[/name]
[name]Kristyn[/name]
Nakole (like [name]Nicole[/name])
Nycole
Allee
[name]Cristel[/name]
[name]Cristal[/name]
Asht’n
[name]Ashlee[/name]
[name]Kimberlee[/name]
[name]Stefanie[/name]
[name]Stefany[/name]
Izzabelle
[name]Malissa[/name]
[name]Alivia[/name]
[name]Nico[/name] pronounced [name]Nicole[/name]!!!
Kaiti
Katye
[name]Ashli[/name]

This wasn’t a real life example, but the worst creative spelling I recall hearing of was Paizzleigh (or something of that sort) from a name board I used to frequent. I think somebody’s coworker named their daughter this. It’s pretty close in head-scratch inducing to a little girl I know named Syvyna, which is said as “[name]Savannah[/name]”. I just don’t get it though.

I have the worst one. The other day, I met a little boy named: Ae’dyn. As in [name]Aidan[/name]. And yes, there is an apostrophe in his real, legal name. Isn’t that just awful?!?

[name]Krystyna[/name] This is NOT an creative spelling rather it is the Polish spelling of [name]Christina[/name].

I think I speak for most nameberries in saying that we really dislike names that are misspelled.

Thanks, [name]Rollo[/name], for the correction for [name]Krystyna[/name]. I usually look up names to see if it’s a spelling for the name in another country and must have missed that one. I’ve never seen it spelled that way before.

Those are bad ones!!!

I don’t mind it if it’s a spelling change due to it being from another language or culture. It’s more the ones that are used just for the sake of being different that get me. I’ve seen people on some blogs that say they love different spellings and wanted to see if they could explain why so I could understand.

I think the worst I’ve seen was actually a girl on an episode of Toddlers and Tiaras, named Saryniti ([name]Serenity[/name]). Not only is that exactly the kind of name I hate, but that spelling? Gah. Actually, there’s a lot of creative spelling going on amongst those pageant kids. I have seen more spellings of the name [name]Kailey[/name] than I can even handle (including [name]Kayleigh[/name], [name]Kaylee[/name], [name]Caylee[/name], [name]Kaylie[/name], and [name]Kailee[/name]). The other thing that irritated me were two alternative spellings of [name]Alexis[/name]: [name]Elexis[/name] and [name]Alexes[/name]. What’s with changing random vowels to E’s? And if you’re going to go that route, why not go all the way and call your kid [name]Elexes[/name]?

But I will digress from slamming the naming choices of parents on Toddlers and Tiaras. The best real-life example of Kre8tiv spelling I have comes from when I was in high-school. I had a job my senior year as a birthday party server at a [name]Chuck[/name] E. Cheese type establishment, and I once served a party for identical twin boys named Kwinton and Kwincy ([name]Quenton[/name] and [name]Quincy[/name]). And I remember thinking “Oh, those poor boys” both for the ridiculous spellings and the matchy twin names.

Oh yeah, I also know:
[name]Mikal[/name] ([name]Michael[/name]- and for a GIRL)
[name]Alexus[/name]
[name]Kailee[/name], [name]Kaylee[/name], [name]Caley[/name], Calle, [name]Kayleigh[/name]
[name]Kyleigh[/name]

Thought of a few more I know: Kloey and [name]Destanee[/name]. Also a [name]Destini[/name]. I SERIOUSLY hate when people take a common word like destiny and SPELL IT WRONG.

Wow these spellings are horrendous!! I feel bad for the kids, seriously. I don’t think I’ve met anybody with a Kre8tif spelled name, people don’t really do it where I live in Australia. Actually I have heard of little girls being names [name]Tayla[/name] as in [name]Taylor[/name], I’m not sure why the parents feel the need to emphasise the Aussie accent with the spelling, why not spell it properly [name]Taylor[/name], everyone here will still be pronouncing it [name]Tayla[/name] anyway. Erghh

lol, I don’t think it’s just an attempt to trendify [name]Taylor[/name]… I’ve seen [name]Tayla[/name]/[name]Jayla[/name]/etc. as up-and-coming options here in [name]America[/name], too–I think it’s just a trendy take on the already trendy [name]Kayla[/name] and [name]Layla[/name]… I guess, in Australia or the UK, [name]Tayla[/name] could be an attempt to trendify [name]Taylor[/name], though… it honestly never crossed my mind, lol.

*shudder…nameberry cringe…I so hate these spellings…like spelling [name]Maya[/name](my daughter) [name]Mia[/name] or [name]Mya[/name]…blech MMM-ya…I just want to SCREAM!!

[name]Jourdan[/name]/[name]Jordanne[/name]/[name]Jordyn[/name]/[name]Jorden[/name]/[name]Jordon[/name]/Jourdynn
[name]Alexxa[/name]/Elexa/[name]Olexa[/name]
[name]Alizabeth[/name]/Elissabeth
[name]Alivia[/name]/Oliveah/Elivia
[name]Iliza/name
I agree I saw the [name]Serenity[/name].I was like really?

I had two creative spellings at work today… [name]Destinee[/name] and [name]Karyn[/name]. I can see how [name]Karyn[/name] could be a legitimate spelling, but the [name]Karyn[/name] (who happened to be like eight) told me she has sisters Nykole and Monyka because her mom wanted all their names to be “different, and she wanted us all to have a K and a Y in them cause those are more different.”

I had to just smile and nod.

I’m shuddering reading these names!! Unless they’ll be introduced as ‘[name]Maya[/name] with only 1 a’, they aren’t different or unique. And the thing I find really interesting is that people give their kids names crazy spellings and then get upset when they have to repeat the spelling several times. Like we’re supposed to read their minds and ‘know’ that they like crazy, made-up spellings!!!

i think its unique to have different spellings of names my son has a semi different spelling name his name is drayke or drake is the right spelling and i love it and dont care if i have to say the spelling to everyone a million times cause thats how i wanted it or if someone dont like the spelling its what i wanted and when i seen this whole creative spelling thing on here i thought it would be cool to check out but you all are you putting people down on the way they like things cause you dont like them and i honestly think that some creative names are better than plain ones its just how some people are and yes i know some people like plain names but maybe you should be a little more creative and now i know that this creative name thing is not for me if you dont have an open mind about names so in my family we have a few different names like izaak styrling makeigha zygmunt kahn so its alright to be creative keep that in mind…

The woman that stole my daughter’s name (six months after I named her [name]Maya[/name] [name]Isabel[/name])not only had no creativity but spelled it [name]Mya[/name] and I know that is. [name]How[/name] some people spell it…but it just makes me crazy…and [name]Mia[/name] is (mee-a) NOT [name]Maya[/name]…I also despise [name]Myah[/name]…I did consider [name]Maia[/name] which I think is the only other legit way to spell the name.arrrgh!
I am sorry if I offend anyone but if you are going to use a name like [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Olivia[/name]…just spell it right…your child will other wise correcting people for their ENTIRE lives…

Broady is apparently [name]Broedy[/name]. Slightly better, but I still don’t like it!

In our local newspaper the past month or so:

Chandlyr - who is a baby girl and

Mylady. I’m assuming this is pronounced [name]Melody[/name] since that was the name of one of the grandmothers.

[name]Both[/name] horrendous.
