[name_f]Cressida[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f] is a fabulous name, so easy winner for me. Strong, feminine and full of style.
[name_f]Elysia[/name_f] falls into the category of another, sweet enough but not outstanding, vowel-beginning and ‘a’ ending names of which there seem endless similar variations to me.
Got to agree with everyone else and go for [name_f]Cressida[/name_f]. I’ve always considered it as a way to get to [name_f]Cassie[/name_f] (which, by the way, could be her nickname if she doesn’t like [name_f]Cressida[/name_f]). [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] just seems a bit over-the-top for me, with names like [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_f]Elena[/name_f] being more commonly known. [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] doesn’t have any more common alternative, so, ironically, the name probably won’t seem as strange.
I far prefer [name_f]Elysia[/name_f]. I think it sounds better with [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]. [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] is not modern and has a such an interesting etymology! It’s not a Nameberry favorite like [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] is but I think she’s a really wonderful choice. I just can’t get into [name_f]Cressida[/name_f], I guess I dislike the sound.
I like [name_f]Cressida[/name_f], but I’ve never known anyone with the name so it feels a bit far-fetched at the moment. If I’m brave, I’ll convince my hubby to go for it. Are many of you who voted for it from [name_f]England[/name_f]? I wonder if it’s more common there… we are in [name_f]Canada[/name_f].
With [name_f]Elysia[/name_f], we were thinking of shortening it to [name_f]Elise[/name_f] for casual use/nickname, but [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] sounds/looks better with our last name for more official use. Also, my in-laws are french, so this name is better for them to pronounce.
Thank you again, I value your savvy naming skills.
I voted for [name_f]Cressida[/name_f]. I’m from [name_m]New[/name_m] Zealand where vintage names are really popular ([name_f]Molly[/name_f] , [name_f]Esther[/name_f] , [name_f]Florence[/name_f] , [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] are all in the top 100). [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] would work really well. [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] is going to cause problems as it’s so similar to [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] , [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] , [name_f]Elise[/name_f] , [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] and [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f]. Except for your family you won’t get the right pronunciation. [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] is elegant , timeless , pronounced as it says on the tin and sounds love with [name_u]Vivian[/name_u].
Well I’m in the minority here – though [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] is my personal favorite, I think that [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] and [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] are nicer together, stylistically. [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] is going to be a little more familiar though the similarity to [name_f]Elise[/name_f] (and all the “el” names).
