Cressida?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! What are your honest thoughts on the name [name_f]Cressida[/name_f]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like it soundwise? Is it popular in your area? Would you use a nn for it?

Any middle name suggestions are welcomed✨

TIA!

I really love [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] - in part for the meaning. It’s not common here in the US, but I know it’s used in the UK.
For a nickname I like Cressy as the main one and maybe [name_f]Goldie[/name_f]/Cece/Idgie for family and friends

I’ve never met a [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] but it is a lovely name!

I’m sorry to present a contrary feeling for [name_f]Cressida[/name_f]! I’ve lived across the US and haven’t heard this name used. It’s not a bad name by any means, but my lack of exposure to it has me feeling like it’s an aged, harsh sounding name. I’m sorry!

Cressida is gorgeous! I live in Northern [name_u]California[/name_u] so no Cressidas. Sadly. I wish I lived in [name_f]England[/name_f]. [name_f]England[/name_f] is to me a name paradise.

I think it is highly usable and I love Cress as a nn. And as an infant, [name_f]Crescent[/name_f]!

I love [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u].

I love [name_f]Cressida[/name_f]! It is uncommon in the US, which makes it that much more appealing to me. But pronunciation is very straightforward, which is also something I look for in a name, plus it has history as a name. All in all a great combination.

The only nn I can think of that hasn’t been mentioned yet is [name_u]Sid[/name_u],

I live in [name_f]England[/name_f] and it definitely isn’t as common here as the other posts (and general discussions on the name) make it out to be. Last year, 13 babies were named [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] across [name_f]England[/name_f] & [name_m]Wales[/name_m] so not at all common in fact.

That being said, I do really like the name. I think something against it here in [name_f]England[/name_f] is it has an almost aristocratic image to me, so I would probably only use it as a middle.

Cressida is gorgeous and bright!

I love the nn [name_f]Cressie[/name_f]! [name_f]Cressa[/name_f], Cress, [name_f]Crissy[/name_f], [name_f]Ida[/name_f], [name_u]Sid[/name_u] and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] could be other possibilties.

Cressida [name_u]Hero[/name_u] and [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] are on my list

Cressida [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Cressida[/name_f] [name_f]Juno[/name_f]

[name_f]Cressida[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Cressida[/name_f] [name_f]Aimee[/name_f]
[name_f]Cressida[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

I’m in the UK, and while I’ve never met anyone called [name_f]Cressida[/name_f], I have heard of a few (Met Police Commissioner [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] [name_m]Dick[/name_m], the author [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] Cowell, [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_u]Harry[/name_u]’s ex-girlfriend [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] Bonas). It’s a known name here, but it’s not particularly common or popular.

While [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] isn’t my favourite (I prefer [name_f]Briseida[/name_f], which has a similar origin), I think it’s a fine name. Cressy and [name_f]Cressa[/name_f] are nice nicknames.

As a [name_f]English[/name_f] girl I agree with the rest of the [name_u]Brit[/name_u] berries [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] isn’t as popular as it’s made out to me. I completely associate this name with aristocracy and every [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] I can think off definitely belong to the upper classes and are in the public eye. [name_f]My[/name_f] family are working class I live & work in a working class area I have never met a [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] in real life.

Personally I’m not a fan of [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] it sounds harsh to me. I prefer [name_f]Cassia[/name_f], [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] or even [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] in comparison to [name_f]Cressida[/name_f]. I also don’t see [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] working on someone who doesn’t belong to an upper class family. I can not see a [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] living on my street but still I can see the appeal the nickname Cressy is cute.

I love the name [name_f]Cressida[/name_f]! I think it sounds really pretty. Sadly, I have lived in several different regions of the United States and have never heard it here, so that makes me worry that the name wouldn’t be familiar enough to use.

My favorite nickname for it is Sida, but I really like @Greyblue’s suggestion of [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]! I hadn’t thought of that one before!

I love it. I don’t know of anywhere that it’s ever been a popular name. I love [name_u]Sid[/name_u] for a nickname, but Cress, [name_f]Cressa[/name_f] and Cressy are all good too.

I can see the appeal and as someone who absolutely loves many [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] related names, I really want to like this one. But something about it sounds a bit… heavy to me and I have trouble seeing it as truly wearable. I like a lot of the “ess” containing names and I thought this one would grow on me by now, but it hasn’t yet— Sorry! I really do understand why people love it, just not for me.

@all-the-commenting-brit-berries I was going to try to counter that point with a “but I know several [three] Cressidas!” before I realised that me saying that says more about me than it does about [name_f]Cressida[/name_f].

Anyway: I really love the name [name_f]Cressida[/name_f]! It’s not widely popular, doesn’t seem too peculiar, and still carries such a strong, enchanting image.

I’m not really a nickname person, so probably wouldn’t, but Cress/Cressie is adorable.

I don’t know if they will be your style, but I think these would all be adorable:

I love [name_f]Cressida[/name_f], but in my language it would probably sound too much sexual. Sida and Cress/Kres are too much similar to certain words.

my alternative is [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].

I absolutely love [name_f]Cressida[/name_f]! It’s my second favorite name. I love the sound and the meaning so much. It sounds ethereal to me and the meaning reminds me of the Sun. It’s also really uncommon where I live. I think I would use [name_f]Essie[/name_f] as a nickname since I’m not a fan of [name_f]Cressie[/name_f]. @rosepip has some beautiful suggestions for middle names! Cressida Juno, Cressida Hero, Cressida Sibyl, Cressida Florence, Cressida Primrose, Cressida Margot and Cressida Lark are my favorites :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Wow, I never noticed the SIDA part before. That’s a bit of a downer.

I actually really like it. Im in the US and its definitely not used here so its like a rare gem. I debated about whether I liked it. I like the nickname name Cressy - that’s really pretty. It almost sounds like [name_f]Crissy[/name_f] but an updated, more sophisticated version.
