Cultural Question about Rico?

I’m a white Australian, I kind of have a wide variety of ancestral heritage, but I’m not Italian. I’ve always liked [name_m]Rico[/name_m] and someone on the boards suggested it could work to honour my uncle [name_m]Heinz[/name_m]. Due to [name_m]Heinz[/name_m] and [name_m]Heinrich[/name_m] all coming from [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. Is it okay for me to use it as a middle name or would it be odd?

I think it would be fine as a middle name, not odd at all. If it was the first name, I would automatically assume you had Italian heritage, but it wouldn’t be a big deal if you didn’t either way.

I really like it and I think its perfectly fine to use whatever the heritage. I wouldnt automatically think Italian, I would possibly think it was a nickname for [name_m]Richard[/name_m].

[name_m]Rico[/name_m] is so much more Spanish to me than Italian anyways. I think it would be a handsome middle name!

I would probably assume that it was short for [name_m]Ricardo[/name_m] if I met a [name_m]Rico[/name_m], but I don’t think it’s just an Italian name by any means.

I wouldn’t think it was weird at all. The only [name_m]Rico[/name_m] I’ve ever met was not Italian at all and I din’t think anything of it. I don’t usually have specific cultural associations with a name unless it’s super uncommon and unheard of outside of that culture.
