Current Character Names

Okay. I just had this thought, and I love the idea. Here’s how this is going to work:

Poster 1 will post their current character’s name (that they’re struggling with, want feedback on, or just want to tell someone about). It can be the character’s first name, first and middle names, first middle and last names, or more if they have them, whatever you want.

Poster 2 will then comment on what they think of the name, suggest a different name if they don’t feel it’s good, then post their own. And so on and so forth.

Posters can leave a description of their character, the age of their character, whatever they feel is relevant to the next poster. Or, just post the name and say that your proud of it and want to show it off. Whatever ya want to do. This is just a place to get feedback on all character names. Hopefully, it’s fun!

I’ll give my character name first.

Abigayle [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] Derr, & her sister (barely a character at all), Elleanore [name_f]Junia[/name_f] Derr. [name_m]Just[/name_m] proud of myself for their names that go together. You can let me know what you think.

Ideas:

Aviana
[name_f]Estella[/name_f]
[name_f]Ailsa[/name_f]
[name_f]Calista[/name_f] (this is my favorite with the girls)
[name_f]Eithne[/name_f]

I’m not sure about middle names for each, because there are so many options, but hopefully that’ll be easier for you.

I have 3 brothers in this story: [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] [name_m]Leon[/name_m], [name_m]Dalton[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], & [name_m]Judson[/name_m] [name_u]Amos[/name_u]. There’s a reason for [name_m]Judson[/name_m]’s name not starting with a D, so that’s not changing, but are the middle names too different from each other? I’ve never been able to come up with better ideas.

From how I see it, [name_m]Leon[/name_m] and [name_u]Amos[/name_u] are underused classics, while [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is a well-used classic. That’s not too different from each other, in fact I really like them together!
btw the firstnames remind me of me and my siblings, two have the same beginning and two have the same ending, that’s cool.

My MCs are four siblings called [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f], last name is [name_u]Halley[/name_u]. I’m considering changing it to [name_m]Lambert[/name_m] because “[name_u]Halley[/name_u], [name_m]Peter[/name_m]” is so close to “[name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]”. Thoughts?

I didn’t think of [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] at all when I read “[name_u]Halley[/name_u], [name_m]Peter[/name_m]”. I could see how someone could, but I didn’t. [name_m]Even[/name_m] without that comparison, I wouldn’t bother to change it unless you’re planning to refer to him as “[name_u]Halley[/name_u], [name_m]Peter[/name_m]” sometime in the story. If you do decide to change it, [name_m]Lambert[/name_m] is a wonderful choice.

What would you call a girl character named Civilla? I have [name_u]Vic[/name_u] written down, but I’d like to hear some other options before settling on that one for sure.

Hmm, maybe Vil? [name_f]Seville[/name_f] (not sure how else to spell it but it’d be se-VIL not “civil”, like how I think Civill would be said), [name_f]Villa[/name_f], or [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] also came to mind. [name_u]Vic[/name_u] would probably work but it wouldn’t be my first thought as a nickname so I might be confused for a moment if I saw Civilla and [name_u]Vic[/name_u] on a page with no direct mention that Civilla goes by [name_u]Vic[/name_u].

Trying to name a witch. She’s super old (probably a couple centuries), chaotic neutral, and a little crazy, sort of like a sassy but senile grandma? I want her to have a nickname-y name that’s kinda unattractive. [name_f]Madge[/name_f] was my first idea (it’s not quite right though) but that’s what I’m going for. Mimzy and Mamzy were others I considered. Right now, I’m thinking Mawzy or Mozie (pn. MAW-zee). If you think it works, how would you spell it? If you don’t like it, what do you suggest?

I like Mawzy for an old witch! Mozie looks like it’s pronounced moe-zee. You could also spell it Mawzie. I would, personally, spell it Mawzy. It looks older than Mawzie (which I could see being an old fashioned name used on little girls), and it’s easy to pronounce.

How would you pronounce [name_f]Alyanna[/name_f] if you read it in a book? Curious because I love the name, but I’m worried about it being hard to pronounce? Maybe?

I would pronounce it [name_m]Al[/name_m]-yanna.

I have a character named [name_f]Helia[/name_f]. Any surname ideas? Any name ideas since I’m not LOVING [name_f]Helia[/name_f]? Her parents are [name_f]Hestia[/name_f] and [name_m]Prometheus[/name_m]. Her name has to be Greek and somewhat related to the sun or fire.

I like the ideas of [name_f]Electra[/name_f], [name_m]Cymbeline[/name_m], or Celosia instead of [name_f]Helia[/name_f]. For surnames (and these are just one I think sound cool since you didn’t specify anything for surnames): [name_m]Franchot[/name_m], Golbury, Haertel, Hasler, Haverford, [name_m]Iverson[/name_m], Jarsdel, Jenniges, Kiers, Klontz, Kuri, Learley.

Which of these would be your choice for a (female) character who doesn’t wait for “the right person” to fix a problem when there is one, she just does it herself:

Loveah (love-ay-uh)
[name_f]Lillias[/name_f]
[name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] (maybe “[name_m]Wes[/name_m]” or “Stria” or even “[name_f]Ria[/name_f]”)
[name_f]Westerly[/name_f] (maybe “[name_m]Wes[/name_m]” or “[name_u]West[/name_u]” or “[name_u]Lee[/name_u]”)
(I’m thinking that her last name will be Vetter, but we’ll see; and her middle name might be [name_u]Jess[/name_u])
