I’m due with a girl in a few weeks and have been looking at a lot of names. I figure most people will give her a nickname for any name over one syllable, so I thought I’d find cute “nicknames” and work backwards into longer names. But I need some help.
What could [name]Grey[/name]/[name]Gray[/name] be a nickname for? I assume Gracyn/[name]Grayson[/name]/[name]Grace[/name] but those are really sickeningly popular.
[name]Pen[/name] for [name]Penelope[/name]? Thoughts?
[name]Ellis[/name] for [name]Elizabeth[/name]? Other options?
I tend to like the girly names but the more unisex/neutral nicknames. Any other suggestions for some cute nickname options?
What could [name]Grey[/name]/[name]Gray[/name] be a nickname for? [name]Graciela[/name] ([name]Graziella[/name], [name]Graciella[/name]) could go by [name]Gray[/name]. I also think [name]Gretchen[/name] or [name]Greta[/name] could go by [name]Grey[/name] if you wanted
[name]Pen[/name] for [name]Penelope[/name]? Thoughts? I really like [name]Nell[/name] for [name]Penelope[/name].
[name]Ellis[/name] for [name]Elizabeth[/name]? Other options? [name]Ellis[/name] is cute. As is [name]Elle[/name] and [name]Libby[/name], in my opinion.

[name]Josephine[/name]: [name]Josy[/name] or [name]Joey[/name]
[name]Samantha[/name]: [name]Sam[/name] or [name]Sammy[/name]
[name]Francesca[/name]: [name]Frankie[/name]
[name]Wilhelmina[/name]: [name]Willa[/name] or [name]Billy[/name]
[name]Danielle[/name]/ [name]Daniella[/name]: [name]Danny[/name]
[name]Jaqueline[/name]: [name]Jack[/name] (I once knew a girl who went by [name]Jack[/name], and I thought it was so cute)
[name]Regina[/name]: [name]Reggie[/name]
I have always loved the nickname [name]Dot[/name], but I just can’t like [name]Dorothy[/name]… I’ve half-heartedly tried to find an alternate route to [name]Dot[/name], but I haven’t had any luck yet ^^ (Nameberry once suggested [name]Dorit[/name], but she has limited appeal as well…)
I also like it when I find new ways to old nicknames, like [name]Hadrian[/name]/[name]Adrian[/name] for [name]Ian[/name], [name]Reuben[/name] for [name]Ben[/name], [name]Icarus[/name] for [name]Ike[/name], [name]Elvira[/name] for [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Annora[/name] for [name]Ann[/name] or [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Isolde[/name] for [name]Izzie[/name] etc etc etc…
As for the ones you mentioned, I have [name]Gray[/name]/[name]Grey[/name] as a name in it’s own right ^^
[name]Pen[/name] for [name]Penelope[/name] is nice, but I kinda love the old lady style of [name]Nell[/name] or [name]Poppy[/name]…
[name]Ellis[/name] for [name]Elizabeth[/name] is new! But she is the most nicknamed name there is, so [name]Ellis[/name] would be refreshing!
I am naming my little girl [name]Harlow[/name] and planning on using the nickname [name]Lola[/name] or Lo.
[name]Charlotte[/name] is also cute with nickname Harlo or [name]Lotte[/name].
[name]Izzy[/name] for [name]Isolde[/name] was also a favorite.
Good luck!
I think [name]Gray[/name] would be a good first name. I like the sound of Gracyn for a girl but don’t like the spelling. I have yet to figure out a better alertnative. I think [name]Grace[/name] is to opopular.
[name]Pen[/name] - I’d use [name]Poppy[/name] for a nn if you used [name]Penelope[/name] as a first but don’t see why you couldn’t use [name]Pen[/name]. [name]Aspen[/name] would give you the [name]Pen[/name] nn or [name]Espen[/name]. [name]Spencer[/name]? As much as I like unisex names I feel [name]Spencer[/name] would be better for a boy but it could work for the nn [name]Pen[/name].
[name]Ellis[/name] - [name]Ellison[/name] is another option and I think is super cute for a girl. If you want a more feminine first name though [name]Elisabeth[/name] would work.
I’ve always loved [name]Lane[/name] for a girl nn [name]Laney[/name]. I’ll probably use this as a mn.
[name]Matilda[/name] could give you [name]Mattie[/name]
[name]Auden[/name] - nn [name]Audie[/name]
[name]Alexandra[/name] - [name]Alex[/name]
[name]Benni[/name]/[name]Beni[/name] - love this for a girl. Maybe [name]Bennett[/name] or [name]Benton[/name].
[name]Berkley[/name] is another name I love for a girl nn [name]Berk[/name].
[name]Charlize[/name] - [name]Charlie[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]/[name]Charline[/name] - [name]Charlie[/name]
[name]Dorian[/name] - could be a girls name nn [name]Dori[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]/[name]Evan[/name] - nn [name]Evie[/name]
[name]Flora[/name] - nn [name]Flori[/name]
[name]Gabrielle[/name] - [name]Gabi[/name]
[name]Ginger[/name] - nn [name]Ginny[/name]
[name]Julianne[/name]/[name]Juliet[/name]/[name]Julia[/name] - [name]Jules[/name]
[name]Leilani[/name] - [name]Lani[/name]
[name]Natalie[/name] - [name]Nat[/name]/[name]Nattie[/name]
[name]Paulina[/name] - [name]Paulie[/name]/[name]Pauli[/name] ( I love this)
[name]Maxine[/name] - [name]Max[/name]
[name]Roxanne[/name] - [name]Roxy[/name]/[name]Roxie[/name]
[name]Tabitha[/name] - [name]Tabi[/name]
I’ve always loved [name]Toby[/name], [name]Jody[/name], and [name]Gabi[/name] for girls.
