Considering the name [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] for our baby girl due in [name_f]October[/name_f]. My husband thinks people will associate with [name_f]Miley[/name_f] or [name_u]Billy[/name_u] [name_u]Ray[/name_u]… thoughts?
I didn’t think of that, i thought it was a trendy boys name. To be honest, you probably would get that association though… If thats a deal-breaker there is [name_m]Silas[/name_m], or [name_f]Cypress[/name_f]. [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f] and [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] have a similar vibe to me
Sorry, but it reads very masculine and I would hate it if my Mom had named me [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]. I would keep searching. Maybe [name_f]Cicily[/name_f] or [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]?
I think of a Persian king when I read the name, so the celeb association wasn’t there. However, it’s very masculine in my opinion.
It’s masculine to me with lots of sharp sounds, which isn’t my thing, especially for a girl. Have you thought of [name_u]Aspen[/name_u]? Has a similar sound, but a bit softer with beautiful meaning.
Yeah, this is not a unisex/gender-neutral name to me. [name_u]Simone[/name_u]/[name_f]Cimona[/name_f], [name_f]Sybil[/name_f], or [name_f]Sidra[/name_f] could get you to [name_m]Sy[/name_m]/[name_m]Cy[/name_m] as a nickname, if that’s what you’re after. The country/pop musicians’ surname is not the first association I have with [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], but it is very much a guy’s name to me.
Please consider [name_f]Cypress[/name_f] instead.
Hmmm… All interesting comments. I think [name_f]Cypress[/name_f] and [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] are too earthy to me. And my oldest daughter’s middle name is [name_u]Simone[/name_u]. I think [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] sounds like [name_f]Iris[/name_f], so feminine to me. It’s interesting what people’s associations are! We also have a daughter named [name_f]Farrah[/name_f], and I had no idea that this is also a common boys name in the middle east. Keep the suggestions coming!
I like [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], but I also [name_f]Cyrilla[/name_f] and [name_f]Ceres[/name_f] better and think they’re more fitting for a girl. But I think you should also go with the name you want. Congrats.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Cyra[/name_f]?
[name_u]Love[/name_u] it for a boy, hate it for a girl.
I don’t think the comments are about [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] being popular/common in the Middle [name_f]East[/name_f]. It’s popular HERE. [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] was the #427 most popular name for boys in 2016. As a girl name, it does not even rank within the Top 1,000 names.
Since you admire [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f], I’d say it’s that long-I sound, R, and -us ending you’re really loving. Here are a few other ideas that would be a bit less confusing for your daughter -

It’s very masculine, I hate it for a girl, sorry
I’m so surprised that no one likes [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] for a girl but me. But I appreciate all the comments and suggestions. I looked at a list of girls names ending in S and found [name_f]Mavis[/name_f], which I also kind of like. I also like [name_u]Paris[/name_u], but I’m not sure if it’s been enough time since the [name_m]Hilton[/name_m].
