Cyrus?

Does Cyrus seem gender neutral to anyone else?
I seriously thought it was a gender neutral name until now, but I just looked it up, and all results say it’s a boy’s name.
Does anyone else feel this way, or is it just me being me?

[name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] seems solidly masculine to me. The similar sounds to [name_m]Silas[/name_m] and [name_m]Russell[/name_m] are probably what give it that feel for me.

I definitely associate it with being a masculine name but I think any name can be made unisex. It happens all the time to names that were once thought to only suit one gender.

cyrus leans solidly masculine to me - might be the -us ending? the only girls name with that ending i can think of is venus. you might like cyra as a feminine alternative/version though :slightly_smiling_face:

It is solidly masculine to my ears, too.

It’s masculine to me although [name_u]Arizona[/name_u] [name_f]Muse[/name_f] (a model) has a daughter called [name_m]Cy[/name_m] (I’m pretty sure ).

I suppose you could use it for a girl if you wanted but that doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s a masculine name in the Bible and in history (King [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] of Persia).

Thanks! I don’t even like it enough to use it, I was just wondering if I was going crazy. I seem to be the only one who sees it as gender neutral.
