Is your first association with that name Damien / Damian “son of the devil” - and is this association SO BIG that everybody who meets a Damien would automatically think that? Or is that association so old at this point that it’s a name that could easily get by without ever hearing that comment?
Damian is one of my top choice names and every single time I bring it up to my mom she goes “Oh, like the son of the devil!?” Because of The Omen. And now she’s claiming it’s such an obvious association that every single person in the world is going to think I’ve named my future kid after the son of the devil. She says “It’s as obvious as Mickey and Barbie!” I’ve never thought The Omen was that big of a deal ???
I think of demon/daemon but that’s just because of the sounds and it’s kind of just a passing thought. I don’t think I know The [name_m]Omen[/name_m], so I can’t speak on how much people will think of that.
I’ve seen the movies, I occasionally quote the movie. And if I met a [name_m]Damien[/name_m] I would think, cool name! Not the antichrist, lol.
This is why I’m not mentioning the naming process to my family until after baby is born. Then, their only significant association will be that it’s the name of her grandbaby! I overthink well enough on my own, tyvm, lol
I don’t know The [name_m]Omen[/name_m] but I’m vaguely familiar with Damien/Damian being associated with demons. I think it has a slight demonic feel in the sense that… in a fantasy book, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if a demon character was named [name_m]Damien[/name_m]? That’s the vibe it has to me!
It’s definitely not unusable. Any association like that would leave my mind if I met a Damian/en in real life.
I think some people definitely will have that association and some won’t, question is - are you willing to use it knowing that when some people hear the name of your son they will associate it with demons / devil? For me it would be a no, but everyone’s tolerance for associations is different! The character aside the name sounds similar to the word demon so that kind of adds to the association in a way whereas a character name could have been more easily forgotten otherwise
