Damien - usable or "evil"? Advice needed!

I love [name_m]Damian[/name_m]! I think the [name_m]Damien[/name_m] spelling carries the connotation even more, but maybe that’s just me? I’ve never even seen the movie, so I have no idea whether or not the movie spells it as [name_m]Damien[/name_m] or [name_m]Damian[/name_m]. But [name_m]Damian[/name_m] reminds me of the actor [name_m]Damian[/name_m] [name_m]Lewis[/name_m], not to mention the saints, and I imagine him to be utterly fantastic! I went to high school with a really great [name_m]Damian[/name_m], too, so I think of him quite a lot. As I’ve seen [name_m]Damian[/name_m] mentioned more and more on these threads, I love him more and more. I would love to meet a baby [name_m]Damian[/name_m], and would never even dream to bring up a Satanic reference. Then again, I don’t watch horror movies, and try to stay away from Satanic references if at all possible, haha! I think [name_m]Damian[/name_m]'s great, and would love to meet a little [name_m]Damian[/name_m].

I never think of the Omen when I hear [name_m]Damien[/name_m] but I’ve also never actually watched a horror movie in my life. I’m aware of the reference but I’m not familiar enough with it to have it immediately come to mind. Funnily, the only [name_m]Damian[/name_m] I ever met was an absolute brat but it was probably a fluke, plenty of kids without ‘evil’ names are brats as well :wink: While the name itself isn’t to my taste I don’t think evil when I hear it.

I think I would like it if not for the “evil” feel I get when I hear it…I know what you mean about the connection. I feel like thats the most often reaction to the name, however… if your child has that name I bet you will feel differently about the name! It’s just getting over that feeling before you meet the little one :slight_smile:

Although I do think of the Omen, I don’t think the name is necessarily evil and therefore useable.

I have a cousin with this name, no issues. It’s very handsome.

I love the name and it was on our list until we accidentally let it slip to my mum who reacted badly to it because of the ‘son of Satan’ connotation. I still like it and I would use it except that it would upset her. If you like the name and can cope with that reaction then go ahead, I think it’s a great name.
The actor [name_m]Damian[/name_m] [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] might have helped make the name more acceptable too.

I’ve known plenty of Damiens, I really don’t think it will cause that much of a problem.
