Darcie, Francie, or Ettie?

Expecting baby girl # 3 and having a hard time coming up with ANOTHER girl name… we do know her middle name will be [name_u]Jean[/name_u]…possibly [name_f]Janis[/name_f] of [name_u]Jean[/name_u] absolutely won’t work with a first name we fall in love with. So far my favorites are:

1.[name_f]Francie[/name_f]: [name_f]Faye[/name_f] for short

  1. [name_f]Darcie[/name_f]: (Can’t decide if we’d spell it [name_f]Darcie[/name_f] or [name_u]Darcy[/name_u]) [name_f]Darce[/name_f] for short

  2. [name_f]Ettie[/name_f]

I REALLY loved the name [name_f]Maida[/name_f] but it doesn’t work with our last name… :frowning:

Hubby’s list:

  1. [name_f]Darcie[/name_f]/[name_u]Darcy[/name_u]

2.[name_f]Roslyn[/name_f]: ros for short. I like the nickname…not so much the full name

  1. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]: luce for short. love this name but it’s SO common

  2. Desa: [name_m]Des[/name_m] for short. I liked this name as a shorter simpler version of [name_f]Odessa[/name_f] but I worry it sounds made up.

I love old fashioned but more uncommon names. I really love old fashioned names ending in “ie”

Hubby really likes names that have good nicknames. I like calling my kids shorter versions of their names but I refuse to have those nicknames be complete names themselves.
I.e.
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] shortened to ash is fine. … she’d never write “[name_u]Ash[/name_u]” on the name slot on a school paper.

[name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] shortened to becky is NOT OK. She would write “becky” on her school papers. If you’re going to call her becky, just name her becky.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] some opinions on our current list or new suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

[name_f]Francie[/name_f] is adorable!!

I like [name_f]Francie[/name_f] and it’s so cute that that is what I would call her.

I love [name_f]Francie[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f].

Except for [name_f]Roslyn[/name_f], I love your entire list. [name_f]Darcie[/name_f]/y is my favorite. Have you considered [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]?

I prefer [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] to [name_f]Roslyn[/name_f]. I would spell [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] with a “y”, but since I’m not a big fan of most names that end in"ie", my opinion is skewed. I too think [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] would fit with you others, and it is one of the few shortened “ie” names I like.

[name_f]Ettie[/name_f] is definitely my favourite. Short, sweet, and full of energy and personality.

I am confused by your naming rules. You say [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] nn [name_f]Becky[/name_f] is “NOT OK” but you have [name_f]Francie[/name_f] nn [name_f]Faye[/name_f] as your first option? Why is it ok to call [name_f]Francie[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] but not [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] [name_f]Becky[/name_f]? By your own rules if you want to call her [name_f]Faye[/name_f] you should just use [name_f]Faye[/name_f].
I really like [name_f]Francie[/name_f] but I prefer it as a nn fof [name_f]Francine[/name_f].

I do think [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is cute. … I just know a girl that I don’t care for who named her daughter maizie. so she kind of ruined the name for me. :frowning:

I guess the nickname thing is confusing. I’ve never heard of someone actually being named [name_f]Faye[/name_f] before so maybe that’s why it gets to break the rules. I knew a girl that had it as a playful nickname, but nothing serious. Now that i see that it is a name in and of itself I’d say I’d probably just call her [name_f]Francie[/name_f].

Never thought about [name_f]Francie[/name_f] before- but it’s really nice! I’d definitely go for that. I also like [name_f]Ettie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Francie[/name_f], [name_f]Darcie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ettie[/name_f], they are uber gorgeous. However, I’m not a fan of [name_f]Faye[/name_f] as a nickname, I do like [name_f]Darce[/name_f] though, it’s cute. Personally, I’d choose [name_f]France[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Francie[/name_f] or probably more [name_f]Francie[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Frances[/name_f].

I like your husbands names too. I agree that [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is really common and that would put me off too. I love [name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f] nickname [name_f]Ros[/name_f], it’s classic and elegant. The only name I’m not a huge fan of is Desa but mainly because of the nickname [name_m]Des[/name_m], I much prefer [name_f]Dessa[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Odessa[/name_f].

The choice does seem obvious though. Since you both have [name_f]Darcie[/name_f] on your list then it would make sense to use it.

Awww, I hate it when that happens! FWIW, your nickname rules made sense to me  My name is [name_f]Angela[/name_f], but most of my family calls/ed me Ang. I never once wrote Ang on a school paper.
