Darcy- boys' name or girls' name?

I love Pride and Prejudice and the character Mr. [name]Darcy[/name] is one of my favourites of all time. I read a book where a mother named her son [name]Darcy[/name] after the character, and since then I’ve wanted to do that for my future son. I can only see [name]Darcy[/name] as a boys’ name. But I saw a thread on Nameberry the other day where someone suggested it for a girl.

[name]Do[/name] you see [name]Darcy[/name] as a boys’, girls’ or unisex name?

I see [name]Darcy[/name] as a unisex name. It’s masculine to me because of Pride and Prejudice (love that book btw) but I can just as easily see it on a girl. But I think I’d prefer to meet a boy named [name]Darcy[/name]. It’d be adrorable.

I see [name]Darcy[/name] as unisex. I don’t mind it on either gender.

[name]Darcy[/name] is one of the few names I consider either masculine or a surname that I actually like on a girl. It’s not one I’d ever actually use, but if I have to pick a trendy name for a girl, [name]Darcie[/name] is usually my choice.
I do think it’s much more handsome on a boy than I find it pretty on a girl… if that makes sense?

Usually I don’t like traditionally masculine names on girls, but I love [name]Darcy[/name] for both a boy and a girl.

I prefer it on a girl, but [name]Darcy[/name] on a boy wouldn’t be too bad!

[name]Darcy[/name] rings masculine to me because of the character, but I’ve met girls named [name]Darcy[/name] and wasn’t offended by it.

Unisex, though I think of it more as a boys name because I’m a tad obsessed with Pride and Prejudice

It’s a surname to me. I find [name]Darcy[/name] very harsh and unattractive on a girl, rather hear it on a boy

I think it’s truly unisex, though I’d be more surprised to hear it on a boy. I slightly prefer it on a girl.

I think of it as a unisex name leaning toward the girls’ side. Still, it’s uncommon enough for either sex that I think it works on both.

I think it is unisex although to me it sounds more feminine and I think I prefer it on a girl.

I also agree that I think it’s unisex, I’ve only met a girl named [name]Darcy[/name], I thought it was cute and spunky on her. The only thing about naming a boy [name]Darcy[/name] is that it could potentially be a lot for them to live up to. Mr. [name]Darcy[/name] is like the ultimate man, who knows though, maybe it would work in his favor because of that! :]

All girl to me.

In the book, it is his last name, so it never even occurred to me it could be a boy’s name.
I had a (female) friend named [name]Darcy[/name] in college, so I’ve always thought it was a girl’s name.

I have 2 female cousins that are [name]Darcy[/name]'s and I love it on them. I know one male names [name]Darcy[/name] which I find feminine. So I think if you like it, use it. It just depends on peoples experience

[name]Darcy[/name] has been of low level popularity for girls in the UK for years. The ballet dancer [name]Darcy[/name] Bussell is a famous one. I’ve never heard of any little boys with the first name [name]Darcy[/name] but I do think it would be handsome on a boy.
I don’t much like it on girls in all honesty!

It’s probably the only unisex name that I really like. I’ve met a boy called [name]Darcy[/name] and I also know a little girl called [name]Darcy[/name]. I don’t know which gender I prefer it on, I think it works for a boy and a girl.

It’s feminine to me. I’ve loved P&P for years but [name]Darcy[/name] was his surname.
The y ending in combination with it sounding so much like [name]Darby[/name] and [name]Marcy[/name] makes it 100% girl to me.
Also, I knew a girl named [name]Darcey[/name] in junior high, so I visualized her when I hear it as a first name.

I see it as feminine… the only [name]Darcy[/name] I’ve ever known is female, and I’ve also known a female [name]Darby[/name], which seems pretty similar. The “y” ending seems more like a girl to me.
