We are expecting our second baby in [name_f]April[/name_f] (Gah! So soon!) and we are team green. We are very undecided about names, both for a boy or a girl. But especially about the girl … and my gut feeling lately is that baby is a girl so I’m freaking out a bit that we don’t have this figured out!
[name_f][/name_f]
We have a shortlist of a few names and one dark horse name that we have both liked for years but only lately have been strongly considering it. The name is [name_f]Stevie[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]
The reason I’m struggling with [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] is that while in many ways it feels like “the one”, it also feels like a risky or edgier name than the others on our list (Clara/Claire, [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], Ella). It’s so different from those types of names that I feel unsure about it.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f]Stevie[/name_f] was a name I always liked since I was a little girl and it’s also an honour name (my Dad who is the #1[name_f][/name_f] Grandfather in the world is Steven). We would also be honouring my mom with the middle name, so her name would be [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]. Last name is [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m]. We have a little boy already named [name_m]Leo[/name_m].
[name_f][/name_f]
Thoughts? What kind of vibe or type of name is [name_f]Stevie[/name_f]? I am not hugely educated on the different genres of names but I know there are [name_f]Vintage[/name_f], [name_m]Classic[/name_m], Modern, Cottagecore etc. What group would [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] fall into? What other names are similar to [name_f]Stevie[/name_f]? And do you think it will be trendy/dated in the coming years? Does [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] go with [name_m]Leo[/name_m]?
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Just[/name_m] trying to get some outside perspective on this one as hubby and I have not shared this name with ANYONE. Like I said [name_f][/name_f]- potential dark horse!
I quite like [name_f]Stevie[/name_f]. It’s different from [name_m]Leo[/name_m] but not in a bad way or in a way that would appear odd. If you both like it & it has special meaning to you I’d go for it, better to use a name you love, even if it’s a ‘dark horse’ than use a different name & regret it
[name_f][/name_f]
Another option would be to use a name like [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] & use [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] as a nickname but honestly I’d just use [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] if it was me
I absolutely love [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]! She has such a great flow, and I love how easily she honors your parents. She pairs wonderfully with [name_m]Leo[/name_m] – they both have that friendly, spunky charm, and are modern but not trendy, so they likely won’t feel dated in the coming years. [name_f][/name_f]I say go for it! Best of luck!
[name_f]Stevie[/name_f] is cool, bright, and versatile [name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f][/name_f] it gives me sort of 80s/90s vibes but in a cute, confident, and stylish way [name_f][/name_f]- and it’s, enough like [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f], and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] that it feels grounded?
[name_f][/name_f]
Not sure where you are in the world, but [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] is a Top 250 name in the US and in the Top 400 in the UK [name_f][/name_f]- and has been a top 1000 choice since the 90s, so it’s got longevity! And while it may be a bit edgier than some of your other names, it doesn’t feel too[name_f][/name_f] risky?
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m] and [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] are great together [name_f][/name_f]- both have that spirited, stylish and bright feel!
[name_f][/name_f]
Some more names like [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] (a few based on your list):
[name_f]Stevie[/name_f] is fun and lively. I think [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] is a darling name that will age well, from babyhood all the way to adulthood.
[name_f][/name_f]
I will say that I don’t love the way [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] pairs with [name_m]Leo[/name_m], but evenly matched sibling names are sometimes overrated. If [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] feels like the one, in the same way that [name_m]Leo[/name_m] felt, then go for it.
I have recently developed such a name crush on [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] for a girl. I would put it as a modern slightly edgy nickname name, but [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] Nicks gives it a boost of familiarity. The name [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] is so friendly and warm and energetic. I absolutely adore.
[name_f][/name_f]
I do understand a name not feeling as in sync with your other favourites, but given how many pluses [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] has, I’d encourage you to go for it. And if you do have another little girl in future, [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_f]Stevie[/name_f], and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] or [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_f]Stevie[/name_f], and [name_f]Ella[/name_f] absolutely work as a cute little sibset.
I LOVE [name_f]Stevie[/name_f]. It’s one of my favorite names right now, if not my very favorite. It gives me a rock and roll, cool girl vibe. I think it goes well with [name_m]Leo[/name_m].
Personally Stevie isn’t a name that is on my radar I prefer names more like Clara however I actually really like Stevie. I find Stevie fun, fashionable with a southern country flair that I like. I would class Stevie as a country cowgirl name whilst also fitting into that unisex naming trend which is popular currently. So in a nutshell I would say she’s crossover in my eyes of naming styles. I wouldn’t necessarily pair Stevie & Le0 however I think they do have similarities in that they both feel relaxed and have an outdoorsy fashionable flair. Concerning future children’s names you could go with something classic but with an eclectic feel for example Opal or Etta. I think Le0, Stevie & Etta would be adorable. Honestly I think Stevie would be a lovely choice for you especially Stevie Marie as this name would honour both your parents which is lovely! I would say you’ve nailed this one
i can personally relate to going with a name that feels quite different from one’s usual style, and in all honesty, i think you should go with stevie
[name_f][/name_f]
it’s an adorable name, has a lovely namesake for you, and fits leo’s quirky, retro vibe. plus, i don’t think it has to knock your other, more classic, favorites off your list. i can see leo and stevie pairing well with sisters like willa and nellie, or brothers like jude and august.
It gives me 70s vibes, it’s a very cool name! [name_f][/name_f]I think it works well enough with [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. I think it generally pairs well with shorter, energetic names like [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f], Marlow/Harlow, [name_m]Rowan[/name_m], etc
Thanks for the encouragement! [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] is not usable for us as there’s someone in our circle with that name [name_f][/name_f]- for some reason I see [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] as a totally different name haha. But your suggestions makes sense and if we didn’t have to think about the other person with that name perhaps [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] would be a consideration.
Aww thanks! It’s nice to hear people like [name_f]Stevie[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] and think that it flows well! It does seem a bit serendipitous that the names go together so well and they are my parent’s names
You always have the best name suggestions! I love so many of those alternatives!
[name_f][/name_f]
We are in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] so while we don’t personally know any little girl Stevie’s, I think its place on the charts is probably similar to that of the U.S. So, not a top 100 name and a bit more rare than others, but also not unheard of. Kind of a sweet spot!
[name_f][/name_f]
Our other names are definitely more popular, which has positives and negatives.
