- day names

I’ve come across a few of these in succession recently and I’ve been rolling them around in my head a bit, so I want to get some outside insight on -day names. (I know that these may not seem very name-like to some people and might not just be your cup of tea. I’m just curious.)

[name]Monday[/name] - I actually think that this is really wearable. The one big issue might be the negative connotations with the day itself being something that many people seem to sort of dread as the start of the work week.
[name]Tuesday[/name] - Like [name]Tuesday[/name] Weld. I’ve seen this one on a few fictional characters and I think it’s really wearable.
[name]Wednesday[/name] - Too Addams family. It strikes me as being sort of cumbersome. Probably one of the less wearable. I have seen this one around a bit outside of the Addams family, and at least in one instance with the nickname [name]Winnie[/name].
Thursday - The sound isn’t very appealing, and it’s probably one of the less wearable options in my opinion.
Friday - I’m a bit undecided on this one. I think it’s sort of cute.
[name]Saturday[/name] - Cumbersome. Probably one of the less wearable options, I think.
[name]Sunday[/name] - [name]One[/name] of the more name-like options. It has some recognition because [name]Nicole[/name] Kidman used it, although it didn’t really catch on much after she did unlike some other celebrity baby names like [name]Harlow[/name] and [name]Shiloh[/name]. This is the one that I’ve probably seen tossed around on naming boards the most, mostly as a way to get the nickname [name]Sunny[/name].
[name]Holiday[/name] - As in [name]Holiday[/name] “[name]Holly[/name]” Golightly from Breakfast at [name]Tiffany[/name]'s (I know this wasn’t her real name, but that doesn’t mean that people won’t use it with her as a reference) and the British actress [name]Holliday[/name] [name]Grainger[/name]. This also lends itself to the much more low-key nickname “[name]Holly[/name].”

What are your thoughts? Are there any that you like? Could you see any gaining in popularity? Which ones do you think are the most and the least wearable? Am I crazy for thinking about this at all?

I like [name]Tuesday[/name] and [name]Sunday[/name] on other people’s kids, but probably wouldn’t use them for mine. [name]Wednesday[/name] would have been cute if not for the Addams family.

I’ve seen [name]Tuesday[/name] on a real child in blog-land, but she passed away from cancer several years ago. I think they called her Tues-y and TuTu or something similar to that, it was a long time ago and I’m having trouble remembering.

I like [name]Sunday[/name] solely for the nickname [name]Sunny[/name], which I love. I don’t like any of the other long versions tho, and it seems too nickname-y for a full name. I would be uncomfortable using [name]Sunday[/name] because I am not at all religious, and I think most people would think it was for religious purposes.

I don’t really like any of the others…especially not Thursday.

I’m not a fan of day of the week names, I mean their the names of the days of the week! Why would you name your kid that? All I can see is teasing when kids are learning the days of the week. A poor little girl named [name]Tuesday[/name] will hear “[name]Sunday[/name], [name]Monday[/name], [name]Tuesday[/name]… hey that’s you [name]Tuesday[/name]!”

[name]Tuesday[/name] is by far the cutest day name!

[name]Monday[/name] - I actually think that this is really wearable. The one big issue might be the negative connotations with the day itself being something that many people seem to sort of dread as the start of the work week.

This wouldn’t be one of my favorite of them. I think you’re right about the way people think of Mondays… it makes me think of a song that goes something like “[name]Monday[/name], [name]Monday[/name], I hate that day… every other day of the week is fine…”

[name]Tuesday[/name] - Like [name]Tuesday[/name] Weld. I’ve seen this one on a few fictional characters and I think it’s really wearable. It does make me think of [name]Tuesday[/name] Weld as the most immediate assocation, and perhaps that’s why it seems one of the most wearable day names.

[name]Wednesday[/name] - Too Addams family. It strikes me as being sort of cumbersome. Probably one of the less wearable. I have seen this one around a bit outside of the Addams family, and at least in one instance with the nickname [name]Winnie[/name].

Yes, too Addams family, but for some reason I like this one the most… would not use though!

Thursday - The sound isn’t very appealing, and it’s probably one of the less wearable options in my opinion.

I agree … does not sound name-like at all.

Friday - I’m a bit undecided on this one. I think it’s sort of cute.
I don’t really like it.

[name]Saturday[/name] - Cumbersome. Probably one of the less wearable options, I think.
Yes, too cumbersome.

[name]Sunday[/name] - [name]One[/name] of the more name-like options. It has some recognition because [name]Nicole[/name] Kidman used it, although it didn’t really catch on
much after she did unlike some other celebrity baby names like [name]Harlow[/name] and [name]Shiloh[/name]. This is the one that I’ve probably seen tossed around on naming boards the most, mostly as a way to get the nickname [name]Sunny[/name].
Yes, one of the more wearable ones. It is kind of cute.

I don’t like it as a name. I would just use [name]Holly[/name], which I do like.

I don’t think day of the week names will ever catch on in a big way, even when celebs use them. I wouldn’t use them myself. I think the most wearable are [name]Tuesday[/name] and [name]Sunday[/name].

I don’t like it, but I have a GP for [name]Sunday[/name] and [name]Holiday[/name].

They’re names of the week, I don’t see why they should be names of kids as well. I dunno, I think it’s just unnecessary really.
There are enough names in the world with out resorting to names of the week, colours, and the like. What’s next? Furniture? I mean, Chair has a pretty enough sound.

I think [name]Tuesday[/name] and [name]Sunday[/name] are the best of the day names. I don’t like [name]Monday[/name], because “everyone hates Mondays,” or [name]Wednesday[/name], both because of [name]Wednesday[/name] Addams and because it’s “hump day,” and Thursday, Friday, and [name]Saturday[/name] don’t sound at all namelike to me.

[name]Holiday[/name] isn’t bad. I like it more than Loveday, which I know I’ve seen somewhere.

What about adding -day to another name “base” to come up with something unique? Lynnday…Clariday…Bellday/Beauday…Mariday…

Or how about the French translation -jour? Bonjour is the obvious one, but Beljour could work too. Or (scuse all the French references, it’s the language I studied in HS =P ) -day names from another language? [name]Mardi[/name] is totally cute. [name]Samedi[/name] too, maybe to honor a [name]Sam[/name] in the family.

Another thought: that old nursery rhyme “[name]Monday[/name]'s child is fair of face…” choosing a name reflecting the day? A name meaning beautiful/handsome for [name]Monday[/name], [name]Grace[/name] or [name]Hannah[/name] for [name]Tuesday[/name], [name]Bonnie[/name] or [name]Blythe[/name] for [name]Sunday[/name], etc.

I like [name]Sunday[/name], [name]Holiday[/name], and Faraday

I actually really like Farraday (nn [name]Fara[/name], [name]Fay[/name])

Annaday
Claraday
Meriday
Truday
[name]Mayday[/name] - too emergency?

Bit too weird for me, but interesting character names.

I love [name]Sunday[/name]. I have it on my list. Out of the others, I think [name]Tuesday[/name] would be the only one I would consider. I also like the names [name]March[/name], [name]June[/name], and [name]November[/name].

I adore day names and I have known a [name]Tuesday[/name] and a [name]Monday[/name] both female.

I have all on my list!
[name]Monday[/name] - girl
[name]Tuesday[/name] - both prefer boy
[name]Wednesday[/name] - girl, but like on both
Thursday - both prefer boy
Friday - girl ,but i like on both
[name]Saturday[/name] - girl
[name]Sunday[/name] - boy

i am obsessed with [name]Monday[/name] right now!!

~[name]Jasmine[/name]

I am in [name]LOVE[/name] with [name]Sunday[/name], it’s one of DHs favourites too
[name]Tuesday[/name] is nice too, the other day names are ok but not great.
Meriday sounds quite nice from the other suggestions

[name]Holiday[/name] has been on my list for a while. It’s my favorite of your choices. I also like [name]Tuesday[/name] and [name]Sunday[/name] and my least favorites would be [name]Wednesday[/name], Thursday and [name]Saturday[/name]. [name]Monday[/name] is ok but it sounds a bit like “mundane”. Also, “day” in Spanish is [name]Dia[/name] (dee-uh) which I love. It could be a nickname for longer names.
