Dear Son/Daughter

I know most momberries probably don’t have time to do this sort of thing. But I found the most adorable video from a mum to her two year-old daughter:

I thought it was absolutely beautiful and brought a tear to my eye. I started writing some letters to my future children, since I don’t have a family; but I wondered if any of the mums out there write journals, letters etc. to their children?

I’m not a mother yet, but my diary is actually in the form of a letter to my future daughter. I hope she’ll be able to learn from my experiences.

@[name_f]Em[/name_f]- Wow, that’s… really brave! I haven’t written in my diary forever (should start again…) but I don’t think I could let anyone read the whole thing. If I meant it for my future daughter I’d start censoring myself majorly… Once on a [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] card for a dear friend I copied out a really sweet bit I’d written about her though.

I am not yet a parent (crossing the territory into this forum ha!) and haven’t written letters to future children but I think it would be a wonderful idea.
But, and I laugh, I did write ‘notes to my future self’ and put them in an envelope with the express directions not to open until I become a parent. Did this when I was 14 or so, and I can ONLY imagine what sort of ridiculous “parenting rules” I gave my(future)self at that age!! I recently came across the envelope and am so tempted to open it but definitely will wait

Aw this is so sweet.

@emily that’s so cool! There is no way on [name_f]Earth[/name_f] I’d want my children reading my unfiltered teenage thoughts - they’re seriously not pretty haha :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I love the idea of doing this, and my mum wrote out a few to me when I was a baby, just little updates on how I was growing and everything. I’ve decided that, when the time comes, I’m going to do little video diaries/journal entries from when I found out I’m pregnant, and every week until the end of my pregnancy for my children to look at/read.

I’d love to do this if I ever have children! I have a list titled “Things I want my future children to know.” It’s just a little list of things I’ve learned from my own life experiences, so far.
