I would say [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] because it rolls off the tongue easier. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is beautiful but if you don’t like [name_f]Gen[/name_f] I’m not sure if the other nicknames would stick. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] make great sisters!! :evergreen_tree::star::dove:

I like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] better because I find [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] too long in letters, and that matter to me. I also find [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] hard to say and spell.
But I do like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] on its own. I like that its sleek, but still has bit of frill.

Hard choice, but if I have to pick [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] it is. It rolls off the tongue so easily and is such a joyful name. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is beautiful and elegant, but I love Felicity’s meaning better. Out of everything I could wish for a child, “happiness” and “good fortune” would be on the top. I’d use the nickname [name_f]Lissy[/name_f].

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] for me! I’ve always had a soft spot for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and I love the [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] and [name_f]Lissy[/name_f] nicknames too.

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] just because most people mispronounce [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and it’s a pet peeve of mine when people take a name from another culture and change the pronunciation. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though both zhon-vee-ev and jen-uh-veev are both beautiful.

I also love the nicknames [name_f]Lici[/name_f] and Flissy

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]! [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is absolutely stunning, but I love [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] because of the sheer amount of nicknames (ex. Flicka, Fliss, [name_f]Lissy[/name_f], Fel, etc.) and the carefree feel! She makes me think of loose hair flowing in the wind, summertime picnics, horses grazing in a pasture, freckled cheeks and dimples.

How would you say the name? I say it jen-uh-veev

I used to, until I learnt the original [name_f]French[/name_f] pronunciation is zhon-vee-ev - trying to notate the first sound of the name is a little hard

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f], no nickname. It means happiness. Trying to shorten it makes it sound like not-a-name.

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]! I love both but [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is my favorite [name_f]Evie[/name_f] full name, and I love the cozy feel of [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. I love that she reminds me of the American girl doll and also happiness (for obvious reasons). [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite nn for her is [name_f]Cici[/name_f]!

[name_f]Vivi[/name_f] or [name_f]Evie[/name_f] is my favorite nn for Genevieve… I like [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] and [name_f]Neve[/name_f] too though.

Yeah, but shifts in pronunciation are just how language works. You probably don’t pronounce [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] as LOO-kee-a (original Latin pronunciation) or [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] as KHA-na (original Hebrew pronunciation) either.

Genevieve🌷 I’ve always loved the sound and length of the name

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] , I used to really not like the name but it’s grown on me a lot

I pronounce people’s names the way they pronounce them so naturally with Latin being a dead language I’m not likely to meet a LOO-kee-a but [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] when I read it in the bible I do say KHA-na not han-uh…but obviously in the UK most Hannahs pronounce their names han-uh. I understand the point you’re making…and I know that all languages change over time.

But I still find it annoying that people take a name from a culture not their own and change the pronunciation. I am aware that this is a widely done practice and has been done throughout history. I’m not judging people for pronouncing names how they feel, but I was explaining why that affects my opinion of a name. It’s why I don’t like [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] jen-uh-veev as much.

I think it’s probably because meaning matters a lot to me, and in modern cultures people don’t tend to name people based on meaning as much anymore, more on the sound and aesthetics of a name. But usually meaning is connected both to the morphology and the pronunciation…and often names in a foreign language are word names or a combination of word names.
