Deja

I recently came across the name [name_f]Deja[/name_f] (day-zha, like deja vu) and I quite love the sound of it. It has that diva-esque, punchy vibe I like, while also sounding sweet, and it fits my 2000s aesthetic quite perfectly.

What are your thoughts on the name [name_f]Deja[/name_f]?

Thank you

Haley

I like [name_f]Deja[/name_f]. The meaning in [name_u]French[/name_u] is a bit odd, but it’s not the worst. And the sound is very cute. I really like names that have the “zh” sound.

It’s a cool name! It definitely has that 2000s aesthetic sound, but I wouldn’t have guessed the pronunciation. [name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was Deya, my second was kind of like Detza and finally Dey-ha. Maybe [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] would be an easier option but if that’s not your style then [name_f]Deja[/name_f] works!

The meaning is strange — It’s NMSAA. I wouldn’t use it, but it’s not like [name_u]Baby[/name_u]-[name_u]Rae[/name_u] or [name_u]Powerful[/name_u] [name_f]Queen[/name_f] or something.

I can see why someone would be put off by the meaning, but one meaning for [name_f]Deja[/name_f] is “ever” which I do quite like :joy: You’re right though, it’s no [name_u]Powerful[/name_u] [name_f]Queen[/name_f] lol

I quite like it and I can totally see it for you! It kind of feels like an shorter, punchier, slightly updated DesirĂ©e to me, and I know you’re a DesirĂ©e lover so I get all the right vibes from this.

My hesitation would also be around pronunciation, which might not be intuitive for non-[name_u]French[/name_u] speakers. However, this may be less of an issue in :canada:

I like it fine! I have met some Dejas and they have all been lovely. I think it fits your style very well!

I know two Dejas from college! Both from [name_u]Utah[/name_u] — funnily enough :see_no_evil: I think the sound is very pretty! It wears really well on a person—definitely a fun choice!!

Without the diacritics, I would read it as DEE-juh (dee as in deed, juh as in treasure)

I love the sound of this name. I had a wonderful friend named [name_f]Deja[/name_f] growing up – she got lots of “deja vu” comments if that bothers you.

I love this and agree completely!!

I am sorry but I can’t understand why this is a name. It is just a word in [name_u]French[/name_u], meaning already (e.g. si tu ne l’avais dĂ©jĂ =if you didn’t have it already). It sounds like someone trying to be exotic and just picking a word at random from another language.
It does have a nice sound as a group of letters to non-[name_u]French[/name_u] ears, but so does ‘[name_f]Solange[/name_f]’ '[name_u]Ange[/name_u] (pr. Onzh) and plenty of other names. When there’s so many nice word names out there that are more meaningful, this isn’t my favorite.
Sorry I don’t mean to offend and feel free to add it to your list
It does seem to be popular on this thread  everyone’s tastes are different and that’s what makes the world so interesting!

totally ok! I can see why it feels that way too  [name_f]Solange[/name_f] is on my list as well, but S/O is less keen because of [name_f]Solange[/name_f] Knowles lol.

my taste is quite different, but I do love that about NB, the world would be very boring if we all liked the same!!

I like it! I knew a girl in high school named [name_f]Deja[/name_f] and it suited her really well.

It feels very in line with your name style, but also in line with some current trends!

This is one of my favorites off of your list! I never heard of it before the This is Us character but it’s pretty and has a lot of personality. I think as that show is so popular/will be getting more popular (idk if it’s that popular outside of my family/the states) there won’t be as many pronunciation issues as there might have been before the show.

I like it, and I think it fits nicely with your list! It feels spunky and fresh. I think the phrase [name_f]Deja[/name_f] vu is common enough that most people will pronounce it correctly, and the spelling feels intuitive to me.

I speak [name_u]French[/name_u] and live in a spot where it’s quite prevalent, so maybe my opinion is biased, but I personally find it to be a little silly as the word “dĂ©jà” means “already”. I would find it quite odd to meet a child with that name, as it is so heavily associated with the word in my mind. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if you’re not in a place with lots of [name_u]French[/name_u], my concern would be for if the child grew up and decided to relocate to somewhere where the language was common, and causing confusion or minor troubles for them in their professional life.
Ultimately it’s your call whether or not to add it to your list or not, and if you love the name then that’s all good, I just think that it’s a little something extra to think about
