Delaney vs. Delainey

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_u]Delaney[/name_u]'s pronunciation is intuitive, or does [name_u]Delainey[/name_u] help to make it more obvious? I know for me growing up, I thought [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] was [name_u]Dell[/name_u]-annie, so I’m a bit unsure if it was a “just me” issue or if others are unsure of how to say it too.

Which do you prefer?

Thank you!

I’ve always read [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] as del-lane-ee and it’s the spelling I prefer

I pronounce [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] as Deh-LAYN-ee and like this spelling, I think your case of mispronunciation is not a common thing at all.

I voted no i, as I think less people would mispronounce [name_u]Delaney[/name_u], compared to [name_u]Delainey[/name_u] being misspelled everywhere you go.

Delaney is familiar to most people so I don’t think it would be mispronounced often.

I much prefer [name_u]Delaney[/name_u], I think it looks neater and more elegant.

However, I also used to think that it was pronounced DELLA-nee, and [name_u]Delainey[/name_u] might make that clearer. But, then I think people would misspell it a lot, so I would stick with [name_u]Delaney[/name_u] in the end- I think most people know how to pronounce it.

Pronunciation seems clear and I’m a stickler for spelling, so I say [name_u]Delaney[/name_u].
